Brandy, I hope my post was not misleading. I do not know of any WARDs of mine that ended up in CA other than descendants James HICKEY and Minerva "Callie" WARD. What I am trying to say is I don't know of any WARD names in CA. I could not resist the tombstone info because it really was beautiful and I thought it might help someone out there. Hi Brenda, Thanks for the great information! I want to spend some time looking it over; it's quite detailed. We probably are researching the same lines, but as of yet I can't make a real determination because I don't have enough information in my tree. What I have specifically is: John Ward 1751-1797 m. Elizabeth Ryle 1756-aft 1786 Thomas Ward Sr, 1778- m. Unknown Allen Louisa Marion Ward 1803-1869 m. John D. Rushing 1799-1858 I hope this helps, Christopher
Hi Mary, Thank you so much for replying to my e-mail about the Thomas Ward family. I would love to see whatever you have. If you have family stories, origins of the name, birth certificates, deeds, etc.-I would love to get copies of those if possible. It sounds like you have the Ward family researched really well; I'd love to see the tree as I am his 5th great-grandson. My family are also from Benton County. Did you know Judith Lowry or Elton Rushing Weatherly? They were my grandparents. I really appreciate your help and if there is any way I can assist you in your research, please let me know and i will be glad to reciprocate. Thanks again, Christopher Johnson
Christopher, I was born in Benton County Tennessee and I also descend from Thomas Ward. I actually have two Benton County Ward lines as well as a Rushing line. I have much information on all of these families. Hi, I am also interested in this line. I'm looking for William Jesse Ward b. 1835 and Ferriby Ward b. 1830 in Arks or NC. They are on the 1850 census in Sevier County, Arkansas with Rebecca Drew Ward Elliott (Grandmother or guardian). William later married Martha Elliott. Ferriby possibly married Pleasant H. Elliott. Rebecca was previously married to Jesse Ward and Luke Ward. Looking for parents or other relatives of William, Ferriby, Jesse, and Luke Ward. Hoping Ferriby is a family name. Please let me know if you recognize any names. My Ward line came from TN to AR. I have been looking for a Michael Ward, b. 1812, TN. He had a grandson named Issac Calvin Ward, b. 1870, Hempstead Co., AR, married 1889 Susan Ebling. We have not been able to find Native Am. paper trail for this family, but an elder cousin who knew Michael's son Willis Washington Ward, b. 1846, says Willis was part Cherokee, part Choctaw and the rest black Dutch. So I think my Ward's "headed for the hills" long before the "Trail Where they Cried" Just a thought I decided to share. Anyone with a Michael in TN have one born 1812?? Hello everyone, I was in Madera, Madera Co., CA (farm country), last week researching another surname and I saw a beautiful WARD headstone with the following names on it. I also research WARD but was not doing so at that time. I wrote the names down to share with all of you in case you are looking for them. I did take a photo just in case any of these are yours... hummm, they may be mine also and I just don't know it yet. WARD Celia M. 1819-1898 Charles M. 1858-1909 Isaac H. 1884-1926 Mary J. 1867-1940 also by this was Mother, Father and another stone I could not read. This family may have been associated with the surnames of DODSON, BROWN, CUNNINGHAM in CA because there were either in or near a block of the cemetery the BROWN or CUNNINGHAM family bought way-back-then. I hope this helps someone. My WARD families (family?) in Ohio is connected to the COCHRAN family, as follows: George W. Cochran & his wife Mary Sutherland had 4 children, two of whom married into the WARD family: 1. Sarah Cochran (born 02 October 1799 in Virginia) married James Hemphill (born 10 November 1790 in Tyrone, Ireland). 2. George Cochran (born 07 August 1807 in Berkeley Co., West Virginia) married Hannah Ward (see her info below). 3. Nancy Cochran (born 10 February 1812 in Pickaway Co., Ohio) married William Franklin Ward (born 29 September 1807 in Allen Co., Ohio). 4. Nathan Cochran (believed to be son of George & Mary; born Abt. 1815 in Holmes County, Ohio) married Eliza Ann Nichols. Hannah WARD: Born Bet. 1800 & 1815 (Source: 1830 - Fifth Census of the United States) bet 1800 and 1810 is her estimated birthdate - no location given. (Source: John Ward <[email protected]>) "Using the family search files now available by the Latter Day Saints Church ... In another family group record I found George Cochran, born about 1811 and Hannah Ward, born about 1815, both in Pickaway County, OH." Married George Cochran in 1833 in Pickaway Co., Ohio (Source: Marriage Records for Pickaway County, Ohio 1810-1862) Nov 21, 1833. Died Bef. 04 May 1845 (Source: Genealogy Files of the Howard Family, Holland, MI) "She may have died in Ohio before her family migrated from there OR perhaps in Fulton Co., Illinois as the family was living there in 1840. I suspect they may have been cousins or siblings. Has anyone any information that might clear-up their ancestry? Any information about them at all? I'm grasping for straws here <grin>. Found this and thought I would share. When you are in a different city do you look through the phone book to find people that have the same surname as one of your ancestors? Do you get excited when you drive by a Cemetery? Do you talk about your deceased ancestors as though they were still alive? Does your librarian or the person that works at the archives know your whole life story? Do you check the obituaries everyday? Does your spouse call the library to see when you are coming home? Do you spend your vacation tracking down ancestors in county courthouses? Do you keep pictures of tombstones or long deceased ancestors in your wallet? Can you remember the date an ancestor died but you can't remember to feed the pets? Instead of an emergency kit in your car you have a research kit. Does your boss call the library or archives to see when you will be coming back from your lunch break?
