    2. There is a way to have it to have the list name in front of every subject in the subject line, just as it can be fixed to reply to the person in responce to a query instead of back to the list!! I have del. messages probabley from this list because they did not have Ward in the subject line. Edith Ward

    1. Drennen Roll
    2. James H. Granger
    3. My direct ancestor, George Ward, and his family moved west during the Removal as part of Peter Hilderbrand's detachment of Cherokees, arriving in Indian Territory on January 30, 1839. The family established a home on Beatties Prairie, in the Delaware District of Indian Territory. They are not enumerated on the Drennen Roll of Delaware District, however, but instead, they appear on Drennen's Disputed Roll. As I understand it, the Disputed Roll included those Cherokees who lived in border areas--borders between the various Indian Territory districts, and between those districts and Arkansas. Does anyone know what dispute existed about Beatties Prairie that would cause its inhabitants to end up on the Disputed roll instead of the Delaware District Roll? On the Disputed Roll, George Ward and his daughter, Malinda are enumerated as group #15. George was married to Lucy Mayes, and there is a Lucy Ward enumerated alone in group #19. This is probably George's wife, although he also had a granddaughter named Lucy. George and Lucy (Mayes) Ward had a son, Samuel, and there is a Samuel Ward enumerated alone as group 17. They also had a son, James, and there is a James Ward enumerated alone as group #23. Between groups 15 and 23, other in-laws and married daughters are enumerated. It would appear that the census taker did not make any great effort to group families, but simply took the enrollees as he found them. If they were lined up as a family, they were recorded together, and if they came to the registration desk separately, they were enrolled that way. But I am guessing. Does anyone know the mechanics employed in compiling the Disputed Roll? Jim Granger

    1. Identifying WARD-L emails
    2. I don't know how to get in direct touch with the administrator of the WARD-L rootsweb. service, so I'll do it this way...open letter to all. I wish the program could be tweaked to identify the incoming emails from WARD-L subscribers to indicate that the incoming does regard the WARD-L list. I know it can be done because another list-serve I'm on does it. KORNEGAY-L is always so identified in the index of new mail. I'm afraid I may delete some WARD-L emailings unintentionally because I get so much junk mail, spams, etc. that I frequently delete without opening if I don't recognize either the sender or the subject matter as something I want to read. When WARD-L posts appear with only their email address and a subject that is not recognizable as a WARD genealogy subject, I probably delete it without opening. An example would be: [email protected] Rosebud. How was I to know this contained a list of immigrants arriving on the Sailing Ship "Rosebud". I might have thought it was some joke about Citizen Kane. I know we could simply ask each poster to write "WARD-L" in the subject line along with the topic, i.e. "WARD-L Rosebud", but I know we will forget and new subscribers will have to be constantly retold. I think there is an automatic way to get this in the subject post. Can it be done? Matt Ward
