One Mathis, Texas is located just northwest of Corpus Christi on highway 37. This is on the modern maps, I don't know if there was another older one or not. Ellis County is just south of Dallas, Texas. Hope this helps. I have Wards who ended up in Texas but I am not sure who or where, it is a brother in the family my great grand dad came from. I found an entry in the AIS mortality schedule that could be a clue = 1870, 7 month old Lizzie R. Ward died of brain inflamation in Ellis Co. Texas, she was born in Alabama! I believe it said October. This would be the correct timing for the movement of my Wards. Could this be link between us?

I just subscribed to this list tonight, but I'll jump right in. My Ward family: Enos Ward, b. about 1802 in KY, m. Elizabeth Pollock in 1825 in Greene Co OH, moved to Logan Co OH (was there on the 1850 census) and moved to Warren Co IL (was there on the 1860 census). His son Joseph Pollock Ward was born in 1828 in Greene or Logan Co OH and married Emeline Loughead in 1850 in Logan Co and also moved to Warren Co IL (and possibly Mercer Co IL). Then he moved to Kansas in about 1864. He was in Coffey Co KS from 1875 to 1900 (according to censuses). Joseph's son William, who married Mary Demiah Crothers, lived in Coffey Co KS until his death in 1937. I have been hunting for some time for when and where Joseph died since he seems to disappear after the 1900 census. I've pretty much exhausted the possibility that he died in Coffey Co KS. Does anyone connect with this Ward family? If so, I have quite a bit of additional information to share. ~Suz

Hi everyone, Since the list is very active right now, I will post one of my Brick Walls. Mark Lemuel Ward was the twin of Perry M. Ward. They were born 11Feb 1875, probably in Panola Co., Mississippi, the sons of Louis Earl Ward & Madora Weathers. They are believed to have moved to Medina Co., Frio & Gonzales counties. Lemm as he was known, married Margaret Galloway, the sister of Caledonia Ward who married Perry in 1900. Callie & Perry were my grandparents. My name is derived from hers. Lemm & Margaret are believed to have moved down to around the Corpus Christi, TX area , but I have been unable to find anything on them or their children. I'm not sure of their names, but have been told they were Cora, Dora, Ethel & Edgar. One of the girls is believed to have been a schoolteacher in Goose Creek, TX, where ever that is. Sid, My grandparents, Ethel Daniel WARD and Ransom Fleenor SAMS, were married in Denton Co, TX 1902 not far from Ellis Co, TX. Ethel's father was William Estes WARD b 20 Nov 1852 ?AR married Ada Elizabeth (JARRELL) PHARIS 9 Dec 1874 ? Anderson Co, TX, d 1888-1890 ?TX. They moved a lot while he was still with the family (I have the 1880 Cass Co, TX census record with them on it) so there's no telling. Can't find a thing on his parents.
