    3. WAMSLEY~WEB NEWSLETTER #6 Hello everyone! ******* Wanda -- Do you have the short bio of a John Alonzo GIBSON that is in Maxwell's History of Rand. Co.? This was published before he probably would have m. Margaret Talbott, so only talks about his first marriage. If you don't have it, I can send it -- gives parents, children. There is also a bio of his brother, Jasper Newton Gibson. If this is the right person (and I'm not sure -- see below) it looks like he was younger than Margaret -- b. 1854. Do I have S. Margaret's birth date wrong?? In Susan's W~W#2 message, she says Margaret was b. 1846, so she would have been 59 or so in 1905 when son Elisha died (he was 38). So if that's right, she must have m. Gibson much earlier -- maybe soon after George died. But (if this is the right John Alonzo) Maxwell says he and 1st wife had 7 children after 1877, and there was no mention of his wife being dead when the book was written in 1898. I'm confused -- it seems like something doesn't add up here! Mary Ann ******* Re: Wamsley~Web #4 -- I'm interested in Martha Valentine's Jacob SNYDER who m. Sarah F. WAMSLEY. I have his father as Frederick and grandfather as John. I'm wondering if these SNYDERS are connected to Henry SNIDER/SNYDER from Preston Co. (m. Mary BROWNING), who is in my husband's Randolph Co. BELL line. Children: Henry Jr.; Mary "Polly"; Jesse; John; Nimrod; Frances; Arsene (Cena); Elizabeth; Mary Jane b. 1784 m. James BELL; Lucille; Sarah; Caleb; Harmon. Does anybody have any information on this? Mary Ann Wamsley ******* Dear Wanda - At your suggestion following is a summary of all I know of my ancestor Jane Wamsley: Jane Wamsley, born 1783 PA, dau. of William Wamsley, a Rev. War soldier. She married (1st) John Neely (died War of 1812); had children (1) Elizabeth, (2) Lewis, (3) Polly. She married (2nd) --------- Lambert and had children (4) Nancy and (5) Lucinda. Her oldest daughter Elizabeth, my gggmother, (1809-1868) married Noah Lambert (1805-1852) a son of her mother's 2nd husband by a previous marriage. After the death of Jane's 2nd husband, she lived in Switzerland Co., IN (1860); and subsequently with her daughter Elizabeth in Cedar Co, IA where she died. I am interested in any information regarding this Wamsley family, particularly as to Jane's ancestry. Responses, if any, to this newsletter or to: hoytee@aol.com ******* I was just browsing the FamilyHart web site -- http://members.aol.com/familyhart/ -- and in their STURM section I stumbled across a couple of WAMSLEY names that are unfamiliar to me. They are: 1.) Celia R. WAMSLEY, b. 1 Jan 1816, Harrison Co.; d. 23 Aug. 1853, Harrison Co.; m. Felix STURM 10 May 1838. 2.) Madasonia WAMSLEY, b. 5 Mar 1824, Harrison Co.; d. 7 Jul 1872; m. Spencer W. STURM 26 Nov 1846 at Viropa, Harrison Co. Does anybody know these ladies?? Mary Ann Wamsley ******* Thanks, Wanda -- this is a good addition to my database. I know this is Paul Thompson's line, and I had David B. but no spouse or children for him. As for the Talbott problems -- it's a wonder to me that you even find the time and energy to do this at all!! I didn't even tackle this project until my children were far past the stage where yours are. Of course now I get distracted by worrying where my teenager is at midnight -- different ages, different problems! What did you mean about the "12-hour nights"? I was looking through my WAMSLEY file today, and I see quite a few puzzling things that should make items for the newsletter. I'll try to write up one now and then and send it along to you. I've just written a letter to a person in Louisiana who is from a Wamsley family that apparently originated in NY state (met his nephew here in Washington, and by coincidence his ex-neighbors go to my church). Don't know whether he has e-mail or not; if so, I'll try to get him to sign up for W~W -- it would be neat to get still another group involved. Hasn't Terra Carpenter chosen to participate? I was hoping we could find her people for her. Talk to you later -- Mary Ann ******* Wanda, My distant cousin Paul Frazier had a Gibson in his family. I've written him to explain about your Gibson (a little bit) and he may contact you ..I'm not sure what his dates and given names are. I'm so confused by all the Talbott,Gibson,Wamsley,Queen etc. surnames am not sure which way to go now. Since you and Mary Ann are working on some of the same names I may take a "leave" from it for a while..and get my head on straight. If I pick up anything that I think may help,I'll share & I"m here! at Juno!! Good luck Shirley ******* Hi! Just received your #5 newsletter. Great going you are getting lots of data for your newsletter. I don't see any on my line but perhaps in the future. My Charles Walmsley was born 13 April 1798 in Staffordshire, England. On his parents I really am hesitant to say. I don't have any records saying his parents name but I do have a notation that his mother was Elizabeth WALMSLOW. I haven't been able to get records on that just yet. >From family generations stories passed down it was told that this Charles Wamsley was sent to America about some disgrace in the family. So on siblings of Charles in England I do not know. Charles Wamsley, did however, marry in England as I have this from the Marriage Record #804, page 268, Parish of Leek, Stafford County, England Charles Wamsley, of the parish of Leek, weaver and Bachelor, and Sarah Malkin of same parish, spinster, weremarried in the church by Barnes, w/consent, on this 21 day of Oct 1824 by Thomas H. Heathcote, Vicar. The children: Ellen, christened April 8, 1929 Rachel, christened May 5, 1831, parish of Leek Mary, born Jan 7, 1835 Charles, born May 12, 1837, Town of Leek, Staffordshire Jeremiah, born 1840 In 1842, Sarah and 4 children came to America. The father, Charles, followed 2 years later in 1844 and settled in Cassville, Grant County, Wisconsin. Rachel died in those early years but I haven't found her death yet. Ellen, married EWER, HIGGINS and lived in Cassville and Nebraska Mary, married CARROW, McCORMICK, WELLS and lived in Cassville, Glen Haven, Kansas Charles, married, Brady and lived in Cassville, Potosi, Wisconsin Jeremiah, married and lived in Cassville, Wis area. This is most of the Wamsley background on my line. Do any other's have any Wisconsin links? Thank you. Mary Kane Durley ******* as you can see from mary jane leenstra's wonderful records, there is no data on isaac wamsley and his wife, leah stout taylor's oldest son, isaac, jr. this is our ancestor and have never found any data on him which forced me to do some research myself a couple of years ago. i accidently found a land purchase in indiana and pursued it in that respect. i did the best i could on isaac wamsley, jr.'s data. if there is anyone researching this line i would very much like to hear from them. isaac wamsley, jr. son of isaac wamsley, sr. and leah stout taylor was born about 1773 probably in nj. he may have married in nj or in ky on his way with his family to adams co., ohio. in the history books of adams co ohio he is referred to as "the wild man" because of lack of desire to stay in one place. he like to roam. isaac jr and his wife, rachel, travelled to franklin co indiana about 1813. the only time i found any reference to his wife was in a church record in indiana and only the name, rachel, was given. i have tried to put together a list of their children from marriage records in indiana: isaac, b. 1798 adams co ohio married elizabeth carson, 11 may 1819, moved to wabash county indiana 1840-50. leah, married jonathon stout. (i think when the family moved to indiana there may have been some stouts that went with them from adams co oh) 20 Jan 1821. christopher married charity gulick 27 sep 1826, moved to decatur co. indiana about 1840. william, married anna james 8 nov 1827, moved to decatur co indiana about 1840. thomas married isabel wilson 31 mar 1830. elizabeth married david caldwell 9 apr 1830. rachel married thomas e vanhorne 3 mar 1831. lawrence married malinda gant 9 apr 1840, married a sarah secondly, lawrence lived and died in franklin co indiana. was born about 1807 in adams co oh, d 1874 franklin co indiana. i found two unknown wamsleys in indiana, cornelius in owen co in 1830 and uriah in henderson co in 1830. children of isaac wamsley and elizabeth carson: mary b. 1820 married stephen craig 20 apr 1837, ( this is my ancestor, i have a picture of her) elizabeth b. 1822 married stephen jones 4 oct 1838. sarah b. 1825 married william riley howell 2 apr 1846. rachel b 1827 married william eads 31 july 1848, william b. 1828. lawrence b. 1829 married sarah boden 6 apr 1851. jane b. 1832 married jonathon briggs 6 jan 1848. female b. 1834. isaac v. born 1838 married elizabeth arnold 24 feb 1859. jasper b. 1840 d. 23 july 1866. rebecca b. 1842 married george washington byram 5 july 1863. jethro b. 1843 married elizabeth white 21 apr 1871. marriage records taken from franklin co and wabash co indiana. while looking through newspaper articles in franklin county indiana, i found the following: from the franklin democrat newspaper, 22 jan 1869: isaac wamsley who lived at one time in the vicinity of brookeville (franklin co indiana) was reported killed by indians on august 8, 1868, near prescott arizona territory..by letter received from isaac q dickson date dec 10 1869. the newspaper article was in search of relatives of isaac to inform them. isaac would have been around 70 years old. (this is the isaac who married elizabeth carson) there is a cemetery listing for him listing his date of death as 1868, so perhaps they brought his body home and buried him respectfully. ( anyone related to this family, please e- mail me, ykmjk@aol.com. corrections and/or additions will be much appreciated. yvonne) ******* Wanda -- I sent a note to Terra Wamsley Carpenter about the newsletter, and here is what she said: "I haven't had the time to pursue the Wamsley family tree. . . . My family originated in Randolph and Pocahantas Counties. They finally settled in Webster County, WV, which is were I grew up. My father, Amos Wamsley, passed away in 1992 so it is kind of hard to find the info." Since we already have the information that Terra gave us on her line, I thought it might be useful to include it in the newsletter to see if anyone knows these Wamsleys: FIRST GENERATION 1. I am glad the site has been useful. While I am not directly researching the WAMSLEY line, I know it is one popular surname. I'd be happy to find a home for the material on-line if you'd like to share it with other WAMSLEY researchers. The little bit of information that I have could not possibly make up all of this newletter, so keep your e-mail coming in! Tom, in the Library of Virginia book of land grants, I found that John C. Wamsley acquired 25 acres of land in Randolph County on April 1, 1854. Could this be the John C. wamsley, brother of Mary? You wrote in newsletter #3 that he went with Mary and her husband Jacob Harper to Missouri. Dick Phares told us that John N. Wamsley, son of Jonathan Wamsley, was a soldier in the Union Army, American Civil War. He was the 2nd cousin of Captain Jacob See Wamsley, Cavalry, Confederate States of America. (Jacob was the uncle of George Fisher Wamsley, another Confederate soldier.) Debbie Malec, do you know who the parents of your Mary Wamsley were? I have a Mary Wamsley, daughter of John Wamsley and Abigail Smith. I have no husband listed for her: Descendants of Thomas Wamsley Generation No. 1 1. THOMAS1 WAMSLEY was born Abt 1680 in England.
