Cemetery Census 1845-1971. The John C. Wamsley family first moved to DeKalb Co. in 1855. He gave land for what became the Wamsley Cemetery. His brother, Jake, was a Captain in the Confederate Army. (No indication that Jake moved west to Missouri.) Cemetery records show the following vital data: John C. Wamsley b. 1810, d. 1890 wife, Elizabeth 1820-1894 son, Luther d. 1857 son, Aretas d. 1864 son, Henson 1849-1921 dau, Celestia 1831-1885 son, Jasper 1846-1927 Next Generation: Henson m. Henry T. married Sarah Henshaw. I have no information on their son Henry. These Snyders are related to me through Adam Snyder, brother of John Snyder. Adam was married to Nancy Towles. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Martha Valentine ******* Hi! I am still waiting for a Wisconsin connection to my Wamsley line. If you still have # 2 available I would like to get it. Many thanks. bdurley@pcii.net Mary Kane Durley. ******* Was at genealogy library for hours this afternoon and found a couple books that you all may have access to. If not, I've copied and can always go back and copy more. Books are Barbour Co, WV Deaths 1 1853-1911 Wills 1 & 1 1/2 1839-1889 by Mary S. Coffman Heritage Was searching for Dr Elam D. Talbott's death date .. Found everything but~ Then from the book History of Barbour Co, WV by Hu Maxwell another Heritage book I found much good information EVen the picture of Dr. Elam's home and his wife and some of his children. I was trying also to find the first wife of Dr. Elam D.Talbott. I had the Proudfoot in mind .. and copied off everything that had that surname. Shirley 2ee ******* Shirley, Do you know what the origin of the name "Proudfoot" is? ----Wanda ******* I would like to point out that the paper by Maude Bliss Allen, "John Wamsley, A Record of His Descendants", contains numerous errors in the first generations. Some of these are abvious and some not so obvious. However, most of the information on later generations seems to be valid when compared with that of other researchers.--Dick Dick Phares-Huntsville, AL ******* Hi... Partial success! According to Ruth Markley's gedcom files on the Allegheny Regional Family History Society's Home Page, Alexander P Talbott's mother's name was Keziah. So, I'm going to go with one of the first (or only) theories--Elam D Talbott's first wife was Keziah Proudfoot. 1850 Barbour Co. Census 600/600 Alexander Proudfoot 58 VA Farmer Elizabeth 49 Kiziah 20 Mary 18 Joshua 16 Nancy 12 Does everyone agree with me??? Susan ******* Wanda -- Here are some comments/questions relating to Wamsley~Web #5: Hal McCawley listed some Harrison Co. ROBINSONS descended from John Robinson II, and asked for the source: These are the same names that I found at the web site I mentioned earlier (Sue Moore -- http://dttwv01.org/sue/index.sht). In that report, this Robinson information is credited to Ann Shreve Norris. No address given for Ann, but I would suggest contacting Sue Moore through her web page if you want to pursue sources. Wanda asked for comments/corrections on her summary of ROBINSON/WAMSLEY family: Wanda, you had William Robinson (who m. Margaret See) as the son of McKinney Robinson. Based on the information at Sue Moore's web site, I have that William B. Robinson and McKinney Robinson were brothers, sons of James William Robinson and Mary Margaret McKinney. I would really like to know who this Mary Margaret McKinney is -- McKinneys are in my direct line, and I don't know whether she is from this same McKinney family or not. Another ROBINSON query: I was contacted by another Robinson researcher who lives in FL and has hit a dead end on her Robinson family. I'll list her basic information here (I have more dates, spouses, etc.): 1. Samuel T. Robinson (1824 MD - 1916 Ritchie Co., WV) m. Elizabeth Kesselring. Children: Sylvanus, Ezra, Hardy, George C., Asbury, Jasper, Brady, Martha Ellen, Ida. 2. George C. Robinson (1857 OH - 1913 Lewis Co., WV) m. Samilda Vannoy. Children: Ira, Lela, Rose, John, Clarence Owen. Can anybody help? If so, contact cissyhassell@worldnet.att.net (Cissy Hassell). Descendants of Isaac Wamsley (Germany >MD/DE>OH): I finally had time to compare the information that was sent to me on the Adams Co., OH, Wamsleys with what was in W~W#5. It looks as if I may have quite a bit that needs to be passed along to the people who are interested in this line -- missing dates, more children, maiden names of wives, etc. that were not in the version Wanda printed in the newsletter. As I said earlier, this is a report that I received about 5 years ago from Wilbur Harvey Wamsley in Media, PA. There is so much here that I can't type it all out for the newsletter -- seems like the best thing to do is to send hard copy to the OH people. Are there just 2 of you? Let me know your "snail mail" addresses and I will get this off to you right away. Mary Ann Wamsley (MAWamsley@aol.com) ******* Susan, WAndy & Margaret .. Have been organizing the information collected yesterday from the 2 books. You probably have this but here goes anyway! Btw. I have no idea if Keziah works out OK for the first wife of Dr.Elam. But with all the infomation that is out there on Dr. Elam I'd think you are very close. Maybe my next trip to Library I can work on that lead! Found in Mary S. Coffman's Barbour Co. I had no idea I would find so much information - from people willing to share and trade information. As a result, I did not start sourcing my information in the beginning. I have tried to go back and try to remember where I got the information; that has been kind of tough to do. So, whatever I put in this newletter is not necessarily information that I have researched. Much of it has been sent to me by many of you.....so thanks very much. (In other words, I was not trying to take credit for other people's information - I was just a very inexperienced family researcher!!) ******* Till next time, Wanda
