THE WAMSLEY~WEB NEWSLETTER #1 The purpose of starting this newsletter is for all of us who are researching Wamsley and related families to have one place where we can come together to compare notes, gather information, and hopefully have some of our questions answered. The only geneology experience that I have is what I have obtained over the past two years while trying to find out about my grandfather's West Virginia family, whom I have never met. (I have never even been to West Virginia!) The following is a summary of my Wamsley ancestry: Ancestors of Wanda Louise Wamsley Wanda Louise Wamsley, born August 25, 1957 in Petersburg, Virginia. She is the daughter of John Curtis Reginald Wamsley and Elsie Louise Wade. She married Robert Earl Balducci, Jr. September 16, 1978 in Chester, VA. father - John Curtis Reginald Wamsley, born January 07, 1935 in Petersburg, Virginia. He is the son of Jasper Newton (Jack) Wamsley and Mary Edna Motley. He married Elsie Louise Wade June 18, 1954 in Ettrick, VA. grandfather - Jasper Newton (Jack) Wamsley, born April 27, 1873 in Indiana; died March 02, 1962 in Petersburg, Virginia; buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia.. He was the son of George Fisher Wamsley and S. Margaret Talbott. He married Mary Edna Motley Abt 1910. great - grandfather - George Fisher Wamsley, born August 10, 1845 in Randolph County, West Virginia; died February 1881. He was the son of Andrew Marcellus Wamsley and Mary Harper. He married S. Margaret Talbott. great - grandmother - S. Margaret Talbott, born 1846; died 1908. She was the daughter of Elisha Talbott and Sarah. 2nd great - parents - Andrew Marcellus Wamsley, born May 07, 1812; died May 22, 1876 in Valley Bend, Randolph County, West Virginia. He was the son of Samuel B. Wamsley and Elizabeth Crouch. He married Mary Harper November 07, 1837. Mary Harper, born September 10, 1811; died November 04, 1873. She was the daughter of Adam Harper and Margaret Wamsley. Elisha Talbott, died Abt 1880 in Barbour County, West Virginia. He married Sarah. 3rd great - grandparents - Samuel B. Wamsley, born Abt 1783; died March 03, 1848 in Huttonsville, West Virginia. He was the son of James Wamsley and Barbara Bland. He married Elizabeth Crouch January 02, 1806 in Randolph , Virginia (later Randolph County, West Virginia). Elizabeth Crouch, born May 13, 1789 in Huttonsville, West Virginia; died December 22, 1839 in Huttonsville, Randolph County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of John Crouch and Mary. 4th great - grandparents - Adam Harper, born April 04, 1779 in Tucker County, West Virginia; born in Pendleton County; died June 05, 1870. He was the son of Johan Jacob Harper (originally Herber) and Margaret Simmons. He married Margaret Wamsley April 19, 1807. Margaret Wamsley, born February 04, 1785; died July 29, 1871. She was the daughter of William Wamsley and Susannah Watson. James Wamsley, born March 06, 1764 in Augusta County, Virginia; died February 28, 1842 in Lewis, Virginia (West Virginia after the Civil War). He was the son of John Wamsley, Sr. and Judith Dorcus. He married Barbara Bland 1783 in Lewis County, Virginia (West Virginia). John Crouch, born in Wales. He married Mary. 5th great - grandparents - Johan Jacob Harper (originally Herber), born March 20, 1751/52; died November 02, 1826. He was the son of Phillip Harper (originally Herber) and Anna Elizabetha Dice (?Theyes/ ?Deiss). He married Margaret Simmons. Margaret Simmons was the daughter of Nicholas Simmons and Maria Margaretha Simmons. William Wamsley, born October 05, 1759 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland; died January 16, 1839 in Randolph County, Virginia (Harrison County). He was the son of John Wamsley, Sr. and Judith Dorcus. He married Susannah Watson August 25, 1782 in Augusta County, Virginia. Susannah Watson, born October 25, 1761. 6th great - grandparents - John Wamsley, Sr., born Abt 1721 in Linshire, England (?Anne Arundel, Maryland); died Abt 1782 in Augusta County, Virginia. He was the son of John Wamsley and Abigail Smith. He married Judith Dorcus Abt 1751 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. Judith Dorcus, born 1730 in Cecil County, Maryland. She was the daughter of Matthew Dorcus. Phillip Harper (originally Herber), born September 26, 1713; died February 14, 1798. He married Anna Elizabetha Dice (?Theyes/ ?Deiss). Nicholas Simmons. He married Maria Margaretha Simmons. 7th great - grandparents - John Wamsley, born Abt 1700 in England; died 1748 in Anne Arundel County. He was the son of Thomas Wamsley and Elizabeth Travers. He married Abigail Smith, born in England. ----------- If any of you want to respond to the following questions, please do!! Wanda, Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought I saw something under Thompson links on AOL that linked you to Thompson Family name. Am I mistaken? My Wamsleys are on my Smith side of my Dads Family (Mary Wamsley) married to Joshua Smith in Harrison Cty, Virginia. Thanks, Paul Joshua Smith was the husband of Mary "Polly" Wamsley. My 3rd great - grandfather was Samuel B. Wamsley, cousin of Polly. Polly's father David and Samuel's father James were brothers. In 1873 +/-, married Daniel Kane, b. Ireland 1845, arrived U.S. at Port Huron, MI November, 1865. Daniel died 192x,Billings, MT. Mary Wamsley Kane died Villard, MN Dec. 2, 1910, age 57, survived by 5 children: Mrs Walter or D.E. Shear, Dan Kane, John H. Kane, Celia Kane, Mildred/Milliand/Millie Kane Madland; sister, Mrs. James Hart, and brother, James Wamsley. You might also be interested in the following information re: origin of the Wamsley name: Wamsley is a variation of Walmsley, an English place name from Walmersley in Lancashire, said to be derived from Old English wald = wood + mere = lake + leah = wood, clearing -- or from the name Wealhmoer (foreign-famous) + leah = wood, clearing. The best news I've had for sometime. I've been trying to find Wamsley data for months and have yet to locate any data from the Staffordshire, England area. I must be doing something wrong or my family never told me the true facts. But your news is wonderful. I don't think I saw your email before or I would have pursued your Wamsley connection. My Wamsley's were from Stafford Co. Staffordshire England. But some of the siblings have noted Isle of Mann, Manchester and I don't know if others right now or not. But I had always heard the Staffordshire location. I will be eager to learn of your Wamsley surname. My Charles Wamsley married Sarah Malkin and I haven't been able to locate any birth or parent's names from her. Have you her on your list?
