Notes In the fall of 1814, units from the War of 1812 were sent to Norfolk to protect that area from British. One of these units was the Company of Infantry under the command of Captain Jonathan Wamsley which was mustered at Beverly in Randolph County September 3, 1814 and became part of Lt. Colonel Henry E. Coleman's 6th Regiment of the Virginia Militia. Jesse was a Private in this unit. Buried in a cemetery on Cheat Mountain, south of Huttonsville, Randolph County, West Virginia. Heavy migration of Scotch-Irish, Welsh, and Germans from Pennsylvania into Virginia began about 1730. Augusta County became a haven for Scotch-Irish Presbyterians. OH Wamsleys: I have researched the wife of Old Isaac Wamsley, Leah Stout. Parents of Leah: Freegift Stout, b. 1693 and Mary Higgins; Freegifts parents were David Stout b. 1667, d. 1732 and Rebecca Ashton; David's parents were Richard Stout and Penelope Van Princis; Richard's parents were John Stout b. England and Elizabeth Bee. There are many allied lines too numerous to mention here, back several centuries on some of them. I would suggest using the gendex file. Some include Ashton, Throckmorton, Cornwallis. Any corrections or additions welcome. In the History of Grant & Hardy Co. WV by E. L. Judy on p 170: From Early Court Meeting 1786 in Hardy Co. On Mar 17-18 among the names appearing in proceedings of this Session of Court are John Robinson and McKinney Robinson. On Apr 14-15 1786 was the following: Stephen Radcliff appointed overseer in place of Richard Seymour from John Robinson's on Looney's Creek to the ford above said Radcliff's, the tithables from Robinson's to work the same up the Creek. Aug 11 - Grand jury includes Joel Robinson p 773. These excerpts place McKenney Robinson in Hardy Co. VA/WV in 1786. He is the husband of Elizabeth Wamsley dau of John Wamsley (will 1782 VA). Elizabeth's brother John Wamsley Jr. md a Mary Polly Robinson, who may also be connected to the above family. I have not done research on them. This may have been in one of your other newsletters, but I'm sending it just in case you don't have it.
