Joseph Wamsley was born between 1765-1770. He was underage when his father died and he and his brother Matthew chose their brother William as their guardian in March, 1786. Since his parents were dead, Joseph did a lot of wandering from one family member to another. In: 1785 he was in Harrison Co. 1787 listed in Rockingham Co. 1788 in Randolph Co. 1790 Pendleton Co. 1794 in Militia in Pendleton Co. He bought 31 acres East side of Dry Run from the former lands of John and Barbara Morris. 1795 First child Jesse born. Sold above land to Isaac Hinkle 1796 Bought land on Riffle's Run in Randolph Co. Whether their is any significance in where he purchased the land in Pendleton Co. is unknown as he grew up on the west side of Dry Run. CHILDREN: Jesse B 11 March, 1795. I am sure he is a son of Joseph, Sr. as aged family members sent me to his family cemetary in Randolph Co. at the head of Becky's Creek on the mountain top to find the grave of Joseph,Sr. as they felt that is where he had been buried. When I did not find it, they told me I had not gone far enough in the woods. Jesse was the purchaser of that farm, but it is possible that Joseph Sr. is buried there, at least the family members in that area thought so. The last proven record of Joseph Sr. is 1842. Patsy, by tradition was supposed to have been a widow and some have said she was a Channell. Another tradition is that she was part indian. If anyone has proof of the names of the two daughters that have not yet been named with certainty, please let us know. There is some question whether the wife of Jesse Wamsley, son of Joseph was a daughter of Henry Mace since he did not mention her in his will. I have found no proof of her parents.
