My query was posted because his father, Abner Wamsley, arrived in Mason County sometime between 1842 and 1850, and I have not found any Wamsleys in the census records prior to 1850. I wondered which branch of the Wamsley family this William belonged to. Jan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. My 2nd great grandmother, Lydia Wamsley was born 23 Nov 1833 in Pendleton, OH. She married David C. Pugh 10 Nov 1853 in Putnam County, OH and she died 29 Jan 1918 in Trenton, MO. I think she may have been the daughter of James David Wamsley of VA and Sarah Bushong of OH. Does anyone have information on Lydia's parents and ancestors?? Thanks, Bonnie Rardin in NV

Author: neldar40 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wamsley/221.2.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am thoroughly confused now! According to the cemetery book "They Rest Quietly", it lists Major John Crouch as the son of John & Judy Westfall Crouch, husband of 1)Mary Nelson and 2) Elizabeth Whiteman Ward. Also, Andrew was born 1750 and died after 11-1780, before 1782, married Judith Westfall, born 1752, died after 1830". If Andrew was dead, how could he marry Judith Westfall? I have a John Crouch married to Mary and not sure which children are theirs. Then a John Crouch married to Judith Westfall, with Major John as their child. Major John was born 1773, according to my records, so andrew Crouch, being born 1750, does not seem to fit into this family. Would it be Andrew, child of John & Mary Crouch, born 1750? Then Andrew Crouch, child of John & Judy Westfall, born 1780, would be brother to Major John Crouch, child of John & Judy Westfall Crouch. If so, then this Andrew would be married to Elizabeth Hutton Crouch. Thus, where does Andrew, married to Judith Westfall come into the familY? Who are Andrew's parents (born 1773)? I just can't get the Andrew married to Judith Westfall. If you can shed some light on the Crouchs from the beginning John, down, I would really appreciate it. Author: RandyStalnaker51 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wamsley/221.2.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Major John Crouch, was the son of Andrew Crouch and Judith Westfall, and grandson of John Crouch Sr., and his wife Mary, according to Mary Stephenson Sailors book, "The Ancestors and Descendants of Thomas Jefferson Crouch", page 19, Andrew was born about 1750, and died after November of 1780, and before 1782, when his widow Judith is listed as head of household with 4 children in a tax list for Monongalia County. Proof that Major John Crouch was his son is found in Randolph County, WV Deed Book 1, page 15, where a record of the transfer of the estate [land] of Andrew Crouch, d'cd, to his son John Crouch, {Who himself was only about 13 years of age at the time}, also found in "A History of Tucker County, WV", written by Homer Fansler, states this was done through an application of an old English law called primogeniture, which basically means the estate of the father is passed on to the oldest living son, on March 28, 1801, found in Randolph County, WV Deed Book 3, page 30, this same land is conveyed to Jacob and Andrew Crouch, [the two younger brothers of Major John Crouch] by John Crouch and his wife Mary. Also found in the estate papers of Charles Fornelson/Nelson, who died in 1795, and whose estate is split 5 ways, a share to sons Jacob and Elisha, a share to his daughter Sarah, of Bourbon County, Kentucky and her husband John Crouch, [this John Crouch was the brother of Andrew Crouch and Uncle to Major John Crouch] a share to his daughter Mary, and her husband John Crouch, [where the record states: son and heir of Andrew Crouch] and a share to his granddaughter Sarah [daughter of John Nelson, d'cd, and wife of Samuel Bringham] There is no record of what killed Andrew or where his grave is, Judith or Judy is listed as head of the household in 1782, 1785, and is also listed in the 1790 census for Randolph County, WV, Westfall family researchers show her in their research as dying shortly after 1830, and have her living at the home of her youngest son Andrew Crouch, who was married to Elizabeth Hutton. Odie Chapman's book is filled with some errors, she has a listing for the grave of Major John Crouch, but to my knowledge his grave has not been located, there is a marker placed by DAR for Major John Crouch at the Old Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, but he is not actually buried there, Randy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Holliday was named Charles Burkett Holliday. In the newsletter (21) Jonathan wamsley, ? Jr. married a Sarah Burkett. Their youngest son was named Newton S. I think I am home.
