Anyone tracing this guy? I pulled up his parents Joseph Wamsley and Sarah Conrad this morning on the Mormon site to see his siblings, and any suspicious names matching my lines...since the children's births are about the same time as some of my names in the bible... Anyone have more on this family? is this the same Joseph as the father? Thanks. Nancy-Jo
Hello listers Does anyone know if there is a connection to this? I found by searching on the Mormon site, www.familysearch.org in the IGI for parents of Wamsley's, that have names repeating. This morning I was searching on John Wamsley, Thomas Wamsley and looking at just earlier years in Virginia, West Virginia for births, "trying to see if there were similar parents". I started with Asa Wamsley, he was born in 1773 in PA and is on the Mormon site.. he probably died because there is a second one born in 1775, same parents. They are Thomas Wamsley and Agnes Mason. Asa Wamsley in 1804. married Mary Paxson...April 11, 1084 in Pennsylvania. The chldren of Thomas Wamsley and Agnes Mason in Byberry PA are: Benjamin Wamsley born 1769 in PA, (mine died in RI in 1841....) Mary Wamsley born 1770 in PA Asa (two) born 1773 and 1775...the 1775 one probably is the father of John Wamsley Richard Wamsley born 1775, could be the twin of Asa...above that survived. Thomas born 1776, named after his father...above. William born 1780, in PA Mary born 1773 in PA When you conduct a search on each of these for a marriage, you start to trace the family members into Virginia. Did anyone do that? Nancy-Jo When you search on Asa's family with his wife...it shows this: Anne Wamsley born in 1812 in Pennyslvania.... Mary W. Wamsley born in 1815 Byberry, PA Morton Wamsley born 1817 in Byberry, PA Margaret Wamsley born 1821 in Byberry, PA Sarah born 1805 in PA Edward born 1809 in PA Thomas born 1807 in PA (*named after his grandfather) Anna born 1812 in PA Richard born 1819 in PA The clue I am hunting down from this family in the north, PA, to Virginia or West Virginia is using the example of "repated naming" in genealogy. Does anyone have these names of the children in either family in the south in their genealogy? With dead ends...? Thanks. Nancy-Jo .
Mrs. Jean Loudin, I will be forever grateful to you for starting me and keeping me on the right track to finding my ancestors. Any suggestion from you is always a welcome one. Here is a Samuel Wamsley, On the Mormon site, anyone have information on this particular branch...know any information? Samuel Wamsley born in 1839 in Clarksburg, West Vrigina to the parents of Abia Wamsley and Elizabeth Campbell Wamsley. Again, I have a Samuel Wamsley in my bible, in fact, he is my 4th-great grandfather on my maternal side. Thanks for checking.... Nancy-Jo Nunez San Jose, CA
Dear Listers I haven't paid too much attention to the West Virginia branch of Wamsley's, as I had not seen any hint of a connection until just now. Does anyone recognize this branch, please please check, I'd like information from someone on this list if this is the case.... Samuel Wamsley, married to Sarah Shinn (Clarksburg, Harrison, Virginia)? They had the following children: Anna Wamsley, born 3 April 1798 Clarksburg, Harrison, Virginia Elijah Wamsley, born 1800, Clarksburg, Harrison, Virginia Samuel Wamsley, born July 4, 1800 same place, same parents as above.... Elijah Wamsley, born 1801 Shinnston, Harrison, Virginia Ann Wamsley, December 7, 1798, Clarksburg, Harrison, Virginia Samuel Wamsley Jr. born July 4, 1808 same place, same parents. Anyone have information on this line, I pulled this family up on the Mormon website. There's an Elijah in here, and there's a Samuel in here. My Elijah in New England and in my family bible, had a son Benjamin...Benjamin had a son Samuel....awfully suspicious here... Help! Nancy-Jo
Just thought I'd pass this along... See the listing for Charlotte and Ockrey. Charlotte is Charlotte Wamsley in my family bible, here she is listed with her husband....interesting site. http://geocities.com/quinnips/records/putnamvit.html Putnam, Connecticut. Nancy-Jo
Check out the Massasoit page and comb through the databases for some early Wamsley's for all of you unfamiliar. Just thought I'd pass this one along. Thanks. Nancy-Jo
Wanda and others interested or curious about the Wamsley's I'm tracking. Isn't the WVirginia Wamsley's connected to a Zebulon Wamsley? Wanda, would you know the answer to this? Please respond. Thanks.
Elona, I do not have your Thomas E., but I do have a Thomas (1752 - 1806), son of John and Judith, who died in Montgomery, Kentucky. This Thomas was born in Virginia and was the son of John and Judith, if my information is correct. I have as one of his sons a Thomas who married Rebecca Stuart in Montgomery, Kentucky, unknown date. Do you think there could be a connection? Nancy-Jo and all, Your information about Amos Wamsley and the other Wamsleys of New York is very interesting. However, if there is any connection between them and the Wamsley family of West Virginia, it would have to have been prior to 1787 by my figuring because the WVA Wamsleys were in Randolph County as early as 1787. If my information is correct, our James Wamsley was born in Augusta County, Virginia in 1762, and died in Louis County, Virginia (now WVA) in 1842. I have that his father may have been born in England, but I am not sure that is a proven fact. Good luck and let us know how your research is going. I am seeking Elisha Wamsley, who I believe could have originally come from PA, RI, or CT. He is listed on the Federal Census of NY, 1830, under Ancestry.com, this may be my elusive Elisha Wamsley. Elisha may have had the children: Sarah Wamsley, Henrietta Wamsley, Benjamin Wamsley, Phoebe Wamsley. Anyone ever seen my Elisha out there, got any information? Thanks. Nancy-Jo Nunez California
