Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BVVBAIB/198.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Sandy: I think we made a connection. Some of the names & ages on your 1900 Census closely match those on the 1910 Census: 1900--------------1910 Gertrude Swan - 17 ------Gertrude Swan - 29 Rose Swan - 8 -------Rose Swan - 18 William Swan - 6 -------William Swan - 16 Harry Warmsley - 3 -------Harry Warmsley - 13 Josephine Swan - 30* ----Josephine Swan - 50 * The largest discrepancy I see is that you have Josephine listed as being born in 1879 (which would make her about 21) & I have her being born about 1859. George Jackson (my great-grandfather) was born in 1856 in New Haven, Connecticut. I have been trying to find the names of his parents, but so far, no luck. The following information is from the research book "Black Roots in Southeastern Connecticut" by Barbara Brown and James Rose: William Swan, son of Brewster, m. (1) Esther_____, both one-half Pequot. (1870 Census Ledyard). William m. (2) Josephine Gilbert in North Stonington 30 Sept. 1880; she was born in New Britain. William d. in Windsor 17 Mar. 1906. Child of William & Josephine (Gilbert) Swan, i. Lillian Gertrude--b. 23 Aug. 1881 (Ledyard). Anna Mary Stedman was born Jan. 16, 1878 in Chatham. She was the daughter of Frank & Dolly Stedman. According to "Black Roots", Anna had a brother Clarence A., born July 29, 1875 (Chatham); d. Aug. 29, 1885 (Chatham) and a brother named Chester Benjamin -- born March 19, 1882 (Chatham). Anna married Herbert E. Warmsley (my grandmother's first cousin). Hope this information was useful. Cheryl

My 3rd gtgrandmother Lucina was a Jackson, on her death certificate it states her father was born in Sharon, Ct. late 1700 or early 1800. My grandmothers aunt Sarah Grant married a Steadman. My gtgrandfather George Swan had his brother in law Harry Warmsley living with him in the town of Middlesex, Ct. listed on the 1900 census and last, my family settled in Windsor, Ct around 1890. Doing research, I've come to realize that many native people married those that were native or mixed with native blood Sincerely Sandy

    2. Dear listers I wanted to write and post some information on files that I have obtained and purchased through a service that ended up not being mine. If anyone on this list has genealogy information in their files that matches these people, please write me privately and I will mail the files to you free. James Wamsley, Company A, 14th Rhode Island Heavy Artillery and Company A, 11th US Colored Heavy Artillery, in Rhode Island - pension file record. Dependent Father: George Wamsley. Apparently the widow Sarah Weems, aka Sarah Wamsley of James' the soldier that passed away in action was trying to get his pension for support of a child which she was the guardian of..mentions James' sister, Hannah Wamsley who at the time was living in Newport Rhode Island. All the depositions from relatives, lawyers, etc. are contained in this file. Lots of good information in here about this family, they just don't match up to mine. John Wamsley, Company C, 13th New Jersey Infantry, Invalid's application #631858. Mentions several of his relatives, medical files, etc. Passaic, New Jersey seems to be where he signed up from...in the service. Samuel Wamsley, Company D, 5th Ohio Cavalry, Invalid's application, widow Catharine Wamsley...Affadavits filed by his wife, in 1903, other relatives it would appear...Catharine lived in Cleves, Hamilton County, Ohio.Samuel Wamsley in this file was born in Cleves, Ohio, but his death certificate states his father was born in New Jersey. Thomas Wamsley, Company E, 24th US Colored Infantry, widow: Sarah E. Wamsley. His widow lived in Camden, New Jersey. This Thomas Wamsley enlisted under the name Thomas Henry...Sarah's maiden name was Gray, he died in New Jersey in 1880. It says Sarah Gray married Thomas H. Wamsley on the 17th of September 1866 by Proctor Williams at Philadelphia. I have other files and will post to those surnames on Rootsweb, advertising those. Again, if any of these belong to people in your family tree and you'd like the files, I would love to send them off to you. Nancy-Jo Nunez NJNUNEZ@aol.com
