Elizabeth Wamsley, married an Anthony. This Elizabeth is my 2nd-great grandmother, matrenal line, and her sister was Louisa Warmsley, or ONSLEY as they both used that name too, who was the mother of Benjamin Franklin ONsley, who was for a time Chief of the Wampanaog Tribe. He died in the 1930s....in Johnston Rhode Island. Same family?

Hello Eileen, I show Susanna's maiden name as RIGGS (1888-1958). This information was passed to me by my grandmother, Georgia Holt Swecker Pingley. I am a descendent of Samuel's brother David Lemuel Pingley. Hope this helps. Again, my info is from research by my late grandmother Georgia Holt Swecker Pingley. Hope this helps. My aunt found this article torn from a magazine. I do not know what the name or date of publication was for the magazine. Does anyone know who T. Semmes "Turkey Head" Walmsley was? Picture from the Past Shortly before midnight on July 30, 1934, 50 members of the Louisiana National Guard marched down Lafayette Street in New Orleans, broke into the office of the registrar of voters and occupied the building. The troops promptly mounted machine guns in the windows, aiming some of them across Lafayette Street at Gallier Hall, which then served as City Hall. The bizarre military maneuver was part of a bitter political fight between Huey P. Long, then a U.S. senator, and T. Semmes "Turkey Head" Walmsley, mayor of New Orleans. With important state and national elections coming up in September in and around New Orleans, Long's puppet governor, O.K. Allen, declared "partial martial law" in the city and sent in the guardsman. Walmsley responded by deputizing 400 special policeman, equipping them with weapons including machine guns of their own and stationing them in and around Gallier Hall. The two "armies" glared at each other across Lafayette Street as the arena of conflict shifted to the courts and then the voting booths. The dual show of military force seemed little more than that, and no shots were exchanged. Long's candidates won at the polls and the guardsman were withdrawn, ending their 45-day occupation on September 13.
