I received an e-mail from Nelda Wamsley Riley the other day. Her g- grandfather was Elisha Talbott Wamsley (b. 1867, d. March 18, 1905) was the brother of my grandfather Jasper Newton Wamsley. They were the sons of George Fisher and S. Margaret Talbott Wamsley. Nelda participated in the newsletter, but I never knew what a close relative she is! I also never knew that Elisha had a wife and family before his death. He was killed when he was run over by a train in Randolph County, West Virginia. Hi, all -- Yesterday I found a 1995 obituary for the wife of a WAMSLEY that I can't place. Maybe someone can tell me where this person belongs in my database. The obituary is for Sarah WEESE Wamsley, widow of Henry Enoch Wamsley. I would like to know who Henry Enoch Wamsley's parents were. Mary Ann Wamsley ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Sarah E. WAMSLEY -- Sarah Elmeda Weese Wamsley, 100, a former resident of Beverly for 70 years, a former resident of Grasonville, MD, and a more recent resident of Statesville, NC, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 1995, in the Brian Nursing Home, Statesville. Mrs. Wamsley was born July 4, 1894, at Pickens, a daughter of the late Clayborn Ashward and Elcinda Folks Weese. She was married to Henry Enoch Wamsley, who preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, Harold R. Wamsley, William C. Wamsley, and Henry E. Wamsley, all of Parkersburg; three daughters, Mrs. Attie W. Payne, Fairport, NY; Mrs. Alcinda W. Collier, Statesville, NC; and Mrs. Beatrice V. Douglass, Luling, VA; and 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death was one grandchild, and several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Wamsley was a homemaker and a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church of Grasonville, MD.

Just a note, the weird thing is that Marion County has a very active historical society and the library has a great genealogical section, so if the powers that be knew this was going to be done, it is a crime it was done without telling these hardwording people. Makes you wonder if someone had a grudge. This was copied from va-roots, another listserv: "This is a "Sad Day" in Marion County, WV history. Sunday 6/21/1998 in Fairmont Times, West Virginian. Front Page Fairmont -- Leatherbound books recording transactions between 1842 to 1880 have been important to local genealogist, but now the historical books are gone - buried with the five bins of trash the Marion County Commission hauled away from the Jacob's building last week. I am skipping most of the article that was in the news. Along with books were, boxes and files of papers dating back to Marion County's inception in 1942. There were five floors that had books, boxes and files to be removed. One book was save with had Mary Burrows will. The will was handwritten pages document. The copy of the will in the county clerk's office, but it was not the same. This is the original. This was the only book that got saved. This is a sad time in WV history to think that people would destoy history. This happen several years ago in Harrison co. and the records are now lost forever. And to think they may have destroy the missing link that you may have been looking for. This is a "sad day". Some of the books were Wills others were Justice of the Peace books that the newspaper had wrote. There may have been other records, but the article didn't say what all had been destoyed. The article was a large article for the paper. The historical and genealogical societies were NOT notified that the county had planned to discard the handwritten record books, files and other etcs. There have been suggested lineages, but not proof. Someone needs to check out the deeds in Maryland to see if the John that everyone lists is the same one that came to Augusta Co. If he sold out in Maryland and then arrived in Augusta in the same time frame, then that may be the correct line. But letters of descendents in the late 1880s suggest Virginia was his origin. I came across this in "History of Adams County," p. 422: "First Settlers of Greene Township" "The following are a few of the first settlers of Greene Township as obtained from the meager source to which we have had access. The first white settler was Obadiah Stout, who was a native of New Jersey, and served through the Revolutionary War. Mr. Stout had ten children, the youngest two, named Obadiah and John, were scalped by the Indians while he lived at Graham's Station, Kentucky. He moved to Greene Township in the year 1796, and settled on the east, or Puntenney's Fork of Stouts Run. In 1796 Obadiah Stout, Jr., grandson of Obadiah Stout, Sen., was born, being the first while child born in Greene Township...." Hi, I am interested in finding about more about George WALMSLEY, a sailor in the Royal Navy in 1906 who married Amy Marion KING at Portsmouth England on 4 August 1906. His father was John Walmsley , a blacksmith. I am trying to discover if George had any siblings, and where he was born. Don't know where they married, probably Iowa. They had a dtr Hazel Walmsley, born Sept 1895, Illinois. She was with her grandmother: Mary Eliz. (Holcomb) Shaw in 1900 Iowa census, Marshalltown, Marshall Co. After that, she's lost track of. What happened to her? After Lillian died as a young woman, John married Lillian's sister: Bertha J Shaw, on 20 Apr 1900 Cook Co Ill. Any help appreciated.
