    1. [WALLES] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: "Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails." We are presently setting up email groups at https://groups.io/. If there is interest in migrating this list to groups.io please respond to this message to that effect ASAP. Please have patience about the creation of your group. The response has been tremendous and it is taking time to get them all set up. Also, creation of this group will depend upon your response to this missive. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [WALLES] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

    1. [WALLES] Introductions
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Jim (Pops) Jackson and have been given the privilege of acting as List Admin for the WALLES List. I have been active with Rootsweb for nearly 20 years and have received great pleasure in doing so. I hope this message will help spur renewed activity with offers of helpful information, requests for help etc. Obviously this means that Rootsweb is back in active status after a period of difficulties that have been dealt with and needed upgrades made. If you have not already done so, you may register at https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/lists/ and be able to see all the lists to which you are subscribed as well as control how your messages are delivered, etc. I hope to hear from you soon with your comments, information and questions. Best wishes, Jim

    1. ADMIN--List changes--please read
    2. Kim Ivey
    3. List Members, On Wednesday, 30 August 2006 the WALLES mailing list will switch to a new system. Most of you should have received an announcement from RootsWeb. For those that didn't and for those that may have accidentally deleted it, I am reposting it here. In addition to the changes below, there are some changes specific to digest subscribers. * You can no longer subscribe to both the list and digest with the same e-mail address. I know that is a pain for some. If you have an alternate e-mail address (or if your ISP offers additional free e-mail accounts-some offer as many as 8 free e-mail addresses so check with them) you can subscribe that address to either the list or digest. You can also use one of the free web-based e-mail services (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.). * If you subscribed to the digest and the "messages" appeared as attachments rather than inline, this will not be happening with the new system. The messages will be in one long message...no attachments. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Now back to WALLES genealogy! Sincerely, Kim Ivey <[email protected]> List Admin -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, August 11, 2006 6:44 PM To: [email protected] Subject: @CHECK+ RootsWeb Mailing Lists are being Updated Dear RootsWeb mailing list subscriber, We are excited to announce that in the coming weeks, the RootsWeb.com mailing lists will be moving to a new list management system. Why? The new list management system offers updated technology, better spam control, and more efficient hosting of the lists. When? All the lists won't be updated all at once. In fact, once we start it will take us about two weeks to complete the process. We've posted the additional details about the update and a current update schedule at the link below. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html This page can also be found by following the link found on http://lists.rootsweb.com. If there are any changes to the schedule, we'll update this page to let you know. How will it Affect You? Your current subscription(s) will automatically transfer to the new system so there will be no need to re-subscribe to your list(s), however, because the sending and receiving of list email will be handled by a new system, you may notice a few changes to your list(s). Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume and issue numbers of the list digests. The "-L" is being dropped from the "official" list name. This means the "from" address your mailing list emails come from will be slightly different- [email protected] vs. the current [email protected] You may have to adjust your spam filters or put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent it from being caught in your "junk" folder. This sounds like a big change, but it doesn't have to change the way you use the list. Here's why: - You will still be able to send messages to the list using the "[email protected]" email address you use today. Additionally, you can choose to drop the "-L" and send your messages to [email protected] Both addresses will work after the list has been migrated. - You will still be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to the mail or digest mode by sending your request to [email protected] or [email protected] as you do today. You will also be able to unsubscribe from the mail or digest mode by sending your "unsubscribe" message to [email protected] The tools that list administrators use to manage their list will also be changing. If you are a list admin, you will be contacted in an additional email on Monday with more details and a link to a tutorial. We're excited about the improvements to the lists because we feel confident that they will ensure that the mailing lists continue to run smoothly for years to come. We appreciate your patience while we make this transition and hope that the RootsWeb mailing lists will continue to be a valuable tool in your genealogy research. Thanks, The Rootsweb Staff ********************************************** You received this message from RootsWeb as a one-time email notification of upcoming changes to the mailing list(s) you subscribe to.

    1. ADMIN: Messages about DNA
    2. Kim Ivey
    3. List Members, Due to the growing popularity of DNA testing and after careful consideration, I have decided to allow messages regarding DNA and DNA testing. However, there are some guidelines. 1) The message must not be all scientific in nature, you must include some historical information. Examples include the name of the WALLES ancestor and/or some vital statistics. 2) Do not post a link do a DNA testing site. Since these sites are a for profit company, I feel it is a violation of RootsWeb Acceptable Use policy. You may ask people to contact you privately for that information. 3) If at anytime the focus of DNA discussion becomes all about the scientific aspects of DNA rather than WALLES surname and DNA, I will close the discussion. I hope by making this decision that it will increase list activity and help others find their WALLES ancestors. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please e-mail privately at the address below. Thank you for your time, and now back to WALLES genealogy. Kim Ivey <[email protected]> List Admin

    1. List Admin: Possible Ancestry scam
    2. Kim Ivey
    3. List Members, I normally don't post messages like this, but since RootsWeb is owned by Ancestry/MyFamily, I feel I should warn you. Please be aware there are message floating around on lists and messages boards of offers to "share" an Ancestry subscription. I have a feeling the message is from a someone claiming to be an Ancestry subscriber and wants money in exchange for his/her login info. Only once you pay you will probably not hear from the person again or will be given false login info. Also be aware that the sharing of user names and passwords is strictly against Ancestry's policy. I know Ancestry subscriptions are expensive, and the sharing of a subscription sounds like a good deal. Please don't let these people scam you out of your hard-earned money. There are plenty of kind people who are willing to do look-up's. In fact there is a RootsWeb list just for that. So, again, please, please don't get scammed. Now back to genealogy.... Thank you, Kim Ivey List Admin

    1. [WALLES] LISTOWNER: Weekend Sharing
    2. Kim Ivey
    3. Listmembers, I have an idea that I think you will like. It is something that I think will help us find our elusive ancestors. I have decided that every Friday and Saturday will be "Sharing Weekend". The rules are as follows: 1) Put your ancestors' names in the subject line (along with dates and places if you like). 2) The message body can me anything....a list of names, a formal query, something copied from your genealogy program, etc. 3) Do not post info on living people. That's it. Sharing Weekend will begin on Friday, 15 June, 2001. It will occur every weekend until I say otherwise. I hope this will help us all. So, everybody have fun and happy hunting! Sincerely, Kim Ivey [email protected] Listowner

    1. [WALLES] LISTOWNER: It's Sharing Time
    2. Kim Ivey
    3. Listmembers, I just want to remind you that this week is sharing week. At this time everyone is invited to share their information with everyone on the list. Just remember the rules below: 1) You must at least put the names in the subject line. You can also include dates and places if you have the space. Please refrain from using subject lines such as "sharing", "my lines", "my brickwalls", "roll call", etc. Using effective subject lines will increase your chances of finding what you want. 2) Only 3 names per message, but you can post as many messages as you like. 3) Include your e-mail address in your message 4) This list is set to reply to sender, so unless you are indeed replying to someone, use the list address for new messages or it won't go to the list. That's it.....everybody have fun! Sincerely, Kim Ivey [email protected] Listowner

    1. [WALLES] WALLES, Evan of PA
    2. Hello all -- My WALLES is only occasionally that in print. There are a variety of ways the name was recorded by census takers, in marriage records and by the family. Here are some: Wooless, Woolis, Woollis, Wooles, Woolles, Walles, Wallas, Wulles, Wallis, Wullis, Vallei, Vallis, Woolar, Wood, Vullei. Here's what I know for sure: Evan (alternately Ivan) WOOLESS (the most common spelling by family) born ca 1790 in PA (based on census information) married Elizabeth EPLING(ER) (born ca 1796 in PA) apparently before 1814. lived in Berks, Lehigh and Schuylkill Counties of PA listed as "Laborer" in several censuses died after 1870 children: John - b: 1814 - md Polly REPPERT - d: ca 1867 David - b: 1817 Henrietta - b: 1820 - md Jacob LEIBY - d: 1899 Sally Ann - b: 1823 CAROLINE/CAROLINA - b: 1825 - md Jonathan LEIBY (2nd cousin to above Jacob) - d: 1910 Thanks for any information and help in following this twisted name trail! 1. [WALLES] LISTOWNER: Sharing week
    2. Kim Ivey
    3. Listmembers, I declare the week of 3 June-9 June 2000 as sharing week. There are a few rules, so please read this message carefully before jumping in. Rules: 1) Please put names/dates/places in the subject line. Do not use ambiguous subject lines such as "my lines", "sharing", "my brick walls", "roll call", etc. Remember, most people don't read each and every list message. They read the ones with subject lines that are of interest. 2) Only 3 surnames per message, however, you can send as many messages as you like. 3) Any query format is acceptable. You can just put a list of names, a report copied from your genealogy program, or whatever. 4) Include your e-mail address. Don't always count on the reply button. 5) Do not post information on living people. This is to protect their privacy. Now I want to discuss how the "Reply" button works on this list. I have this list set to reply to sender. That means when you hit the reply button your message won't go to the list, but to the person who sent the message you hit reply to. So, to send new messages to the list it's always best to put the list address in the "To" field. If you don't, then when you hit reply to a message just to get yours on the list, it won't go there, it will go to the person who sent that message. Ok, that's it. Let's get busy composing our queries. Good luck to everyone! Sincerely, Kim Ivey <[email protected]> Listowner
