I've "rescued" a group of old family letters all belonging to the WALLACE Family of Connecticut. The letters all appear to have been written between 1881 and 1897. Many of the letters are written to Lucy Bryant WALLACE from her sister Ruth WALLACE of New York City, and from Lucy's Mother, with one letter addressed to Lucy Bryant WALLACE c/o Margaret BURRILL of Portland, Oregon. There are also letters written by Lucy Bryant WALLACE to her sister Ruth WALLACE who is living at 32 East 57th St in New York City at the time. Lucy appears to be writing from St. Margaret's in Waterbury, Connecticut so I'm wondering if Lucy was in school there at the time. There are also a number of letters from Lucy to her Mother and to her Father, all written when Lucy was at St. Margaret's in Waterbury, CT. Two letters are included from Lucy to her Brother, one actually addressing him as Fred WALLACE, with both of these letters penned from Farmington, CT. There is a letter included which is addressed to Mrs. WALLACE from Alice Grout WOOD congratulating the WALLACE family on the positive outcome of Mr. WALLACE's legal troubles. A letter addressed to "My Girls" appears to be from Lucy & Ruth's Mother. An early letter is addressed to "My Husband" from Nellie and mentions that Lucy & Harold will accompany me into town, so I'm thinking that Nellie is also a relative of Lucy Bryant WALLACE and that Harold may be a brother or other relative. The final letter included is addressed to Lorna GIBBONS c/o Lucy WALLACE at St. Margaret's in Waterbury, CT. Based on limited research I believe that Lucy B. WALLACE is the daughter of Thomas & Ellen B. WALLACE and was living with her family in Derby, CT during the 1880 census. The family of Thomas & Ellen B. WALLACE included 7 children, Thomas age 19, Lizzie L. age 18, Fredrick W. age 14, Nellie B. age 11, Ruth M. age 6, Lucy B. age 4, and Harrold S. age 3. Thomas was recorded as 53 years of age, born in England a Brass Manufacturer. Ellen B. was age 47, born in MA to parents born in MA and CT respectively. All the children were said to have been born in CT. The household included three servants so I'm assuming that the family was fairly well off. This is a wonderful group of 25 family letters that I'd like to see returned to family where they belong and can be preserved and cherished.
