Trisha It is likely that somewhere in the mists of time they did originate from Scotland, but the records being what they are it is unklikely that we can prove it which is why I am always interested in what records etc others have used. Many on the my variaous lists seem to go back to 1200s and beyond but seeing there were no written records at that time I wonder where they have derived their info from or is it just assumption. One of my lines is Macdonald - however there can be many sons of a person named Donald ergo Mac Donald so when surnames came into being these many dads named Donald are not necessarly related however many people seem to want to tie them together but are unable to supply the legitimate and proven source from which they assumed their line or obtained their information.
