I have a bit of a mystery on my hands. When I was young, my parents would take us to see our Great Aunt Bernie McCray who lived in Rio Vista, CA. (Bernie died in 1967-I was only 10). It was always a fun time, but I was never sure how "Aunt Bernie" was related. Since I found genealogy, I have begun to believe that she was my grandfather John Wallace's sister (obvious choice). However, I cannot match the name with anything. Bernie's husband was Dee McCray. He worked with the railroad and died in CA about 1932. The couple had two children, Doris and Waunita. I have found a birth record for Doris McCray, born May 1, 1916 in Fresno Co., CA. It lists her mother's maiden name as WALLACE. I have also found, on an index at Rootsweb, a death record for Beatrice B. McCrea, born 5/30/1897 Missouri, died 3/4/1967 in California, but no county was listed. Can anyone out there connect Bernie to this family? The parents of John were: John Thomas Wallace, born 1821 Illinois, died 1921 Newton Co., Missouri Elvira Elizabeth Nichols, born 1866 Kansas, died 1932 Contra Costa Co., California They were married in Jasper Co., Missouri in February 1884. The two children I know of are: John Dugan Adkins Wallace, born 1889, Jasper/Newton Co., Missouri Maud May Wallace, born 1892, (I have nothing more on Maud) (Oh, Doris was married twice that I know of. Once to a Bill Brann and once to a man by the name of Garnett. She was unable to have children. The family lost contact with her after her mother died.) Thanks! Claire Wichelmann
