Jim: the 19th century immigration (?) and your Canadian residence lead me to believe that you would want to check the records of Nova Scotia. I would try a global search (www.google.com) using keywords: Geanealogy, Nova Scotia, Wallace ..... see what you come up with. I bet you'll get some leads.
