Mr. Wallace, I read your e-mail with interest. I did not know about all of the separate branches of Wallaces from Scotland. I have never done any Scottish research until my discovery that my 5g-grandfather, Abijah Wallace of North Salem, NY is the grandson of Sergeant John Wallace of Glasgow, Lanarkshire Scotland and Norwalk, Fairfield, CT. I have recently obtained a partial copy of the "Wallace Family Notes" submitted to the NY G&B in 1955. I am compiling and intend to publish "The Descendants of John Wallace and Mary Hyatt of Norwalk, CT 1709-2009". I want to remove the family legend of descent from the great patriot William Wallace and place John with the right clan Wallace. How can I do this knowing that he was "press-ganged" into the Royal Navy in Glasgow around 1700 and jumped overboard in 1706 while anchored off Connecticut? The IGI claims his parents were John Wallace born 1649 and Lady Margaret Maxwell born in 1653 in Glasgow but as an aspiring professional genealogist awaiting board certification, I must have primary evidence! Where can I look? I have tried GENUKI and the Wallace web site with Braveheart depicted. I will go to your web site here in a minute. Can you point me to the right resource in Scotland? Is there a published history of the clan with a genealogy prior to, say, 1750? Any help is appreciated. Thomas Edmund Peter Randall #758 Randall Association of Long Island, Inc.
