Hello I have a situation that I would like an opinion on. My gg-grandparents James Adams Wallace & Sarah Ellen Spiker were married in 1865 Hancock Co. IL. They did have 2 sons, Thomas Henry, my g-grandfather and Lewis E.. Then in 1869 Sarah gets re-married to an Elisha R Hamilton. On the marriage license she uses her maiden name of Spiker instead of Mrs. Wallace as if she were a widow. ??? Would it have been acceptable for her to sign it this way if James had left her with out an actual divorce? Thanks for any help. JoAnn Wallace
