Looking for this Wallace group that is in Jackson Co, VA (later W VA) in the 1850 census. They move to Ray County, Missouri and most of the descendants stay in the area except a son, William Wallace. Here's some of what I have: 1. ROBERT1 WALLACE was born 1811 in Pa or Ireland. He married SARAH MCLEAN or McLain Notes for ROBERT WALLACE: Robert Wallace aka as Rob 1853 - Robert and family in Missouri. Daughter Sultana was born in Missouri around 1853. 1850- Located in Ray County, Knoxville Twsp, Knoxville Post Office, Missouri. Rob is a Hotel Keeper, The census shows Robert and wife Sarah born in Pennsylvania. 'They have a rather large family possibly several other children have already left home. The children include: Douglas 22 Farm Labor born in Va Henry C, 19 Farm Labor born in Va in School William 11 Farm Labor born in Va in School Charlott I4 born in Ohio in School Anna 11 born in Va in School Sultana 7 born in Mo Robert was known as "'Uncle Bob'' to all the people around. 1870- Now Bob is a farmer living in Ray County, Knoxville Twsp, Richmond Post Office, Missouri, His wife Sarah is keeping house, They show their birthplace to be Ireland for Rob and England for Sarah. Rob is eligible to vote. They have three daughters at home: Sarah A, born in Va in School Sultana born in Mo In School Charlotte born in Mo in School It is possible Charlott(born in Ohio)died between 1860-1870 because they named another daughter after her. The last Charlotte was born in 1861, They were living in Dwelling 330. Douglas Wallace (Son) and his family were living in Dwelling 273. William Wallace (Son) and his family were living in Dwelling 340. Ray County, Knoxville Twsp, Richmond Post Office, Missouri. Faily mythology states that Robs father worked in a glass Factory in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Rob's parents came from ScotLand in 1811. We have no proof of this so far. Douglas McLains father and mother are listed as being born in Philadelphia. Pa on his death certificate, I'd like to know Robert's state or Country of origin as well as his ancestors. I have no idea where he is after 1870. Thanks for any help the list can give. Joe Baughman Wichita, KS
In order to generate traffic :) I am looking for the parents of my Warren M. Wallace, born May 18, 1830 in Wake Co., South Carolina, died Sep 22 1885 in Ash Grove, Greene Co, Missouri married May 11, 1856 Orange Co., North Carolina to Mary Elizabeth Floyd born Oct 1 1834 in Codaway, Fayette Co., Illinois, died Feb 22, 1926 in Ash Grove, Greene Co., Missouri. Rumours have it that Warren's father was a James Alexander Wallace born c1804 in South Carolina, died Sep 17 1885 in Fayetteville, Washington Co., Arkansas possibly married to a Nancy. I have no definitive proof on this rumour, so hoping someone may have already made a connection. Warren has seveeral possible siblings Van Metri ? Yancy Jane William Catherine Nancy But since I do not know Warren's parents, cannot verify the siblings. Especially since all the siblings were born, apparently in George and not South Carolina. So, this may be the wrong group of siblings. Warren had several children born in Arkansas and Missouri. Anyone know this Warren? Carter, Hardin & Wallace Cousins: I'm glad to see that I've struck a nerve! We've had many positive responses to the initial inquiry. No, I will not move to close these lists. I still feel as positive about them as I did 10 years ago when we struggled to start the group. We were initially hosted by a different server at the University of Indiana. After they were hacked and shut down, Rootsweb offered to host the lists, and each list owner had an option whether to move to Rootsweb or chose a different service. We, as a family, for I feel each list subscriber is part of our larger family, chose to move to Rootsweb. It has turned out to be a very good choice over the years. They've provided us with a lot of choices & services. What I would like to see is a renewed effort, by all of us, to get these lists active again. Remember, we've still got a lot of "brick walls" to conquer. Me, I still don't know: #1: Who the parents of my great grandfather: William Jasper Carter, were! Have a possible idea who his mother might be, but it still leaves questions and the big one is who was his father. #2: Who are the parents of Samuel Wallace, who was born ca 1754 and died ca 1796. #3: Just exactly who are the parents of: Sarah Hardin, who was married to Samuel Wallace. We know that she settled in the area of what now forms Webster & Union counties in Kentucky somewhere around 1799. From that point on, the family leaves a paper trail a mile wide. But what about the early years!! So me, I've got lots of questions. Me, I've only been researching some of these issues for only the last 12 years, but other family members have been at it for 60 plus years and still don't have an answer. I'm an eternal optimist and keep hoping someone new will join the group, post a question and the answer will surface and smack me in the face. Like I said, I'm an eternal optimist. So let's do it! Let's get these groups back in motion, chattering as in our past glory. Best regards to all and good hunting! Chuck Carter Charles E. Chuck, like the others I am busy with work and with other names as well. I do not think it has outlived its usefulness. Maybe we are all tired and not working as diligent as we should. Early on this site led to several useful finds and some really neat "relatives" I am grateful to you for sponsoring the list --please keep it going. I will try to take the time to list my dead ends again after the end of my current hot task and my taxes are both finished. Chuck: I am on both the Carter and Wallace lists. Like many folks, I stay very, very busy and don't often have time to participate actively. I would like to see more activity on both lists but don't feel knowledgeable enough to contribute a great deal. Is there a Wallace DNA project? And I would also like to know who on your Carter list is a participant in the Carter DNA project. I was a Carter by marriage and my son participated in the DNA testing in the hopes we could get past our dead-end. Unfortunately, it presented more questions than answers. For Wallace and Carter researchers, here is a link to a document with a mention of both surnames that may be beneficial to some. It's called CensusMate and it helps you organize your pre-1850 census information. CensusMate, created by John Haynes, is a free program but if you find the program useful, you can send John $10, which he doubles and sends to the Duke Eye Clinic to support their research on Macular Degeneration. Hi, I'm researching a Thomas D. Wallace who was born about 1831 in New Hampshire. He married Olive McEwen who was born about 1832 in Ohio. They were in Wisconson in 1850 and from there went to California a few years. They settled in Nodaway County Missouri about 1860. They don't appear on any 1860 census but one of the children was born in MO about 1860 and there is historical info on them in the 1860's in Nodaway County. They are there in 1870 on the census in Lincoln Twp and in 1880 at the town of Hopkins in Nodaway Count. Their children in 1870 were: Milton D., Frank, Ellen, Carrie, Hattie, Charles, and Grant. Thomas was a county judge 1862 - 1866. The county minutes show he had charge of an orphan girl in 1866............looks to be temporary until a permanent home could be found for the child. I think that orphan may have been my relative. She was raised in a home in Nodaway County and likely arrived right about the time the Wallaces would have had her. She was believed to have been a full blood Kaw Indian girl. She was likely brought back to Kansas by a Methodist Circuit rider. I would like to correspond with any decendents. The more I know about Thomas D. Wallace, the easier it will be to figure out if this was actually my orphan relative, and the circumstances of her arrival in Nodaway County and placement in a home there. I have already checked obvious sources on the orphan such as guardianship records, probate records, Indian Rolls, etc. I do have a little more info about Thomas D. Wallace and would be glad to share. Any help would be much appreciated! Many thanks, Karren A.

Seeking information on WALLACE family in Floyd County, Georgia in 1900: Nettie WALLACE (b. between 1854-1865) was listed as a widow on the 1900 census. Her children were: Addie M., Benjamin and Alma. Believe she was married in 1888 to Ike H. WALLACE. It is also believed that Nettie's maiden name was POWELL. My grandfather and his brother, who were her nephews, were living with Nettie and her children at the time of the 1900 census and I'm looking for my WALLACE cousins. Any help with this line will be appreciated. Thanks.
I would love to find out how my Wallace line ties into all the other Wallace branches. I am amazed at how may different lines there are. I have traced--with hard evidence--the line to Richard Wallace/Wallis 1736 Raw House Kirkhaugh, Northumberland. They went to Stanhope, Durham, then to the coal fields near the North Sea, and a couple of generations later my great grandfather came to America with three daughters. It appears they were lead miners, and then coal miners. It has been postulated that they came from Scotland at one time to find work. My great grandfather was killed in a train accident 6 weeks after his arrival at a sisters, Ann Wallace Hardy. Grace
Hello, My name is Cynthia Effingham and I have been engaged in research appertaining to the Wallace family for many years. I am at present trying to determine the parentage of Eimerus Galleius, the earliest known progenitor of the Wallace family. There seem to be three main hypotheses concerning the descent of Eimerus. The first is that he was a Cymric vassal of the early Stewarts' lands in Shropshire. Even more interestingly, one contemporary source states that his father was a Norman or Breton nobleman of the surname 'de Muras'. Unfortunately I have searched all the B.A. rolls and related manuscripts for a 'Muras' but have found nothing close to this name. The third hypothesis is that Eimerus was a 'Strathclyde Briton' descended from the ancient royal family of Strathclyde that goes back to Caratacus, who fought the Romans in southern Britain around AD 40. Another researcher posits (without sufficient evidence in my opinion) that Eimerus Galleius was in fact the son of Guy le Strange, the famous Breton nobleman. I am posting this message, firstly, to encourage discussion about the possible antecedents of Eimerus and, secondly, to ask if anyone else is familiar with the ancestry of the Muras family and how they might be related to the Wallaces. With best wishes, Cynthia Effingham --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? With a free 1 GB, there's more in store with Yahoo! Mail.
Hi listers: I am looking for any living descendants of Harold W. Wallace (1895-1972) and Goldie Josephine Brill Wallace (1895-1985). They had two children: Gordon (deceased) and Sharon. They are my first cousins. I would love to find them. Harold owned/ran a funeral home for many years in Stockton (I think). If anyone knows Sharon or her children, will you please pass my email address on to them and ask them to contact me. Thank you Susan Sacramento, CA
