    3. Columbiana County Ohio Wallace Information Someone sent me copies of from the 1879 History of Columbiana Co. Ohio when I was searching for some information on the Wallace & Chetwynd Pottery in East Liverpool, Ohio. My great grandfather Hamilton Wallace bought his daughter a set of play dishes, which I have, they were made by the Wallace & Chetwynd Pottery in East Liverpool, Ohio which made me wonder if the Wallace families were related or was it just a coincidence. My Wallaces were in Chester Co. PA> Blue Rock Township, Muskingum Co. OH. I thought someone researching might find this helpful. Wallace family info from History of Columbiana Co. Ohio 1879 I think there must have been two men named William Wallace. William Wallace – ruling elder in Methodist meeting house on High Street in Centre Twp. The page with the township name was not sent. It is on page 131. However, William Wallace is listed ad a Trustee in 1863, 1864 and 1865. I think it may have been Elk Run as it is mentioned later. Township Treasurer – A. P. Wallace - 1871. Justice of the Peace – John Wallace William Wallace was a director of public school district No. 8 with 70 youth and receiving $59.54 from the state. Again a page is missing giving the name of the village (on page 143). This is regard to the layout of the village. “The village was laid out by Joshua Dixon in the spring of 1805, and embraced originally fifty-eight lots, on the southwest quarter of section 4. . . Other lots for village purposes, on the foregoing section lists William Wallace. . .” “Meantime, William Yates opened a store, making, in 1831, three in the village. At the Moody stand Joseph Wallace engaged in merchandising, and continued about thirty years.” William Wallace one of trustees of Presbyterian Church of Columbiana in 1879. William Wallace one of trustees in 1850 of Franklin Township organized in 1816. William Wallace one of trustees in 1858 and 1859 of St. Clair Township organized in 1803. The East Palestine United Presbyterian Church was organized in August 1842 in Unity Township. John Wallace was a ruling elder sometime between 1842 and 1879. Wayne Township – Robert Wallace and William Wallace are mentioned on p. 269. The previous page was not included so I do not know what the reference was. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church “made application for one of their number to administer the Lord’s Supper and organize an Associate Reformed Congregation in Wayne Twp. . .formed Aug 12, 1831 in a grove near Mrs. Fleming’s house. William Wallace was among those taking part in the first communion. Page 324 lists Wallace, Wm., son of Ezekiel and Mary (Boil) Wallace, b. Ireland, 1806, s. Columbiana Co. 1816, Farmer, p. o. add. 1. Elizabeth Wallace, daughter of James Wallace
    2. aewallace
    3. I have been trying to get additional information on James Wallace for about 20 years but all I know is he died in Smith Co., TN, in 1828. I have the names of his children from his will but have only the date of birth for Elizabeth who was my great-great-grandmother. James' wife was Mary (Polly) - I have no other information on her. Their children were: 1. Elizabeth born Mar. 28, 1796; died Feb. 15, 1865; married Elijah Haney Carman Apr. 6, 1824 2. Robert 3. Hannah 4. Sarah (Sally) 5. Patsy 6. Polly 7. Jefferson 8. James, Jr. 9. John (his middle name may have been Edward) One of the daughters evidently married a Draper because James names his two grandsons, Jackson and Wesley Draper, in his will. James Wallace has been one of my brickwalls for over 20 years so I hope someone else is researching this family. I check the Wallace mail list closely so I hope it will continue. Ann Wallace (My husband's Wallace family was from Stewart Co., TN)

    1. RE: [WALLACE-L] DNA Analysis
    2. Helen Marshall
    3. Hi there1 This might have been asked before, but what do we do if there are no males left? I know the DNA project looks for the Y chromosome in the men but is there a way to do the mitochondrial test on the women? I have two Wallace cousins no one has seen in 30 years. If any Wallace knows a Mark Allen Wallace who was born in April of 1957 and lived in Kansas City a good part of his life please let me know. There is also a Kelly Wallace who was born in WIsconsin and is now in his late 50's that lived in Long Beach CA that is a relative. These are the only known men in my family and neither of them has been heard from in at least 20-30 years. The DNA test would help me with my brick wall, but without someone with the Y chromasome, I don't think it's possible. Thanks Helen -----Original Message----- From: JoAnn Wallace [mailto:edward.joann@verizon.net] Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 9:48 PM To: WALLACE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WALLACE-L] DNA Analysis To All Wallaces, I can, from my personal experiences, tell you that DNA analysis does definitely help. A potential cousin contacted me after seeing my Wallace-L query. Correspondence between us provided a lot of circumstantial evidence but we couldn't find any definite proof. About that time the Wallace DNA option became available and we both participated. The result was a 100% match on 26 DNA sites tested. We were now positive that we were descended from a common ancestor. Since that time I have, with help identified a Wallace in Scotland who has his ancestry back to the 1500 who shares a common ancestor with me. While I still have a lot of searching to do to prove the line, I know that I can trace forward the Wallace male descendants of the 1500s ancestor to find my line. I think this will be much easier than trying to go back in time. I have put this info out as a way of trying to say that if all of you Wallaces with male members available can submit your(their) DNA to help establish possible common lines of ancestry. It will tie together family lines and could provide a great help to those of you with Wallace brick walls. Your DNA submission is easy and will help all of us. Ed Wallace

    3. Good Evening! Since we are all listing our brick walls... Mine is the parents of John J Wallace Sr. born 14May 1811 Muskingam Co OH. Died 30 Oct 1889 in WI. Am pretty sure that he fits into a family that came over from N. Ireland in 1797 and settled in Cecil Co MD>Butler Co PA>Muskingam Co.OH. John's father was probably the second son of John and Geneva Crawford Wallace. Even the LDS church has the mystery man listed as Mr. Wallace. No one has any clue about mystery man's wife except that a census has her being born in NJ. I never knew their were so many Wallace's until I started this research. Western PA and SE OH are full of them, none of which I seem to be related to, and even the ones I'm not related to don't know anything about him.I thought mystery man might have died in the War of 1812 but without a first name, he is difficult to trace. He was probably born around 1780 in N. Ireland. He is listed in the 1800 census in MD as male between 16 and 26. He then falls into a black hole. I sure would like to find the black hole that contains all these Wallace men. It would solve so many peoples problems. Thanks for reading my rambling. 1. THOMAS JEFFERSON WALLACE
    2. I too have been monitoring this list looking for Thomas Jefferson Wallace, born about 1838 in Tennessee and married Elizabeth Sparks in Illinois. They settled in Livingston, Kentucky. In the 1880 Livingston County census, Elizabeth ( Bettie) is a widow and had the following children: John b about 1862; Wilie born about 1864; Mary b about 1866, Emma b abut 1870; Nancy born about 1872, Harry b about 1877 and Thomas Jefferson b 1/26/1879. Thomas J married Cora Black . I have been looking for the Senior Thomas Jefferson Wallace for quite some time but can't seem to find what happened to him. I am wondering if he may have been killed in the war. If any of these names look familiar, please contact me.

    1. RE: [WALLACE-L] [ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE] Checking & Testing.........
    2. Jude
    3. Hi Chuck: The weekend kept me too busy to check emails, but found this message today and wanted to add to the growing list of people who wish to see this list continued. I am not a Wallace, but have been researching the line for my friend, Ron Wallace of California, for the past five years. I have my own brick wall to add to the others. I am looking for the parentage and exact birth place of Jacob Wallace, patriarch of this Wallace line, and for the whereabouts and disposition of his great-grandsons, Howard and Pearle. Ron Wallace is descended from Jacob Wallace, born in Maryland (county unknown, but I suspect Washington County) in 1777-78. He married (spouse unknown) and is found in Franklin County, PA (across the border from Washington County, MD) in the 1810 and 1820 census with male children of the right age. He had two sons known to me: James, born about 1804 and Francis S, born about 1806. Jacob shows up in 1829 in Belmont County, Ohio, as testator for his son Francis being of legal age to marry Elizabeth Warrington (born in PA about 1810-12). I have their marriage record dated December 30, 1829, which states that she was the adopted daughter of Job Calvert. Francis and Elizabeth had several children, all born in OH or VA (WVA?): Nathaniel, born about 1832, married to Mary Craig; Samuel, born about 1834; James W, born about 1836, married to Caroline Craig; Thomas H, born about 1837, married to Mary E Roseberry; Margaret, born about 1839; and William, born about 1842. Nathaniel (wounded at Gettysburg), James W, Thomas and William all served in the Civil War with the Ohio Infantry, different regiments. Thomas H married Mary E Roseberry (born in PA about 1840) March 23, 1863 in Marietta, OH. They had four known sons: Howard, born about 1864; Pearle C, born about 1867; Harry E, born 1871; and Theron H, born about 1876. My friend Ron is descended from Harry E, and I have a rich paper trail for Harry and Theron. I can find nothing on Howard or Pearle after the 1880 census, except for mention of Pearle as a surviving son in his mother's obituary. If anyone on the list can tie this Wallace line to their own research, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, and keep the list going, please. We never know when some vital clue may pop up onscreen from someone on the list. 3. What would you do if there are no male Wallaces still alive in your line? The last male in my line was my great grandfather, killed in 1888. I can trace his line back to Stanhope, Co Durham. but not back from there. I always thought the Wallace name was uncommon until I joined this list. I really had no idea that there were as many lines carrying this name. Grace
