Hi list. I'm still trying (over ten years of searching) to find the maiden name of the mother of Patrick Wallace. Patrick was born in Limerick between 1826 and 1832. His. father was William Wallace who came down from Scotland and married an Irish girl. William Wallace came to America soon after Patrick was born and wife and son followed a year or two later. I have a good paper trail of Patrick from the time he filed a Declaration of Intent for citizenship in Dubuque, Iowa in1849 when he left there for California during the gold rush. I have nothing positive before that and Ancestry.com can't seem to find anything either. I don't know much about the DNA lineage system but maybe that would be a good way to go. Any help or suggestions would be apprectated. My brick wall is my 4th great-grandfather, Edwin Wallace born c1833 in NY. Thus far, the only US census record I can find for him is the 1880 census where he and his household are listed as follows: Household Record 1880 United States Census -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Household: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace Edwin WALLACE Self M Male W 47 NY Bridgeman SCOT SCOT Eliza WALLACE Wife M Female W 53 NY K. Wallace, widowed, age 73, living with William Boyce and his wife, Harriet E. in Hohokus Township, Bergen Co., New Jersey. It also lists Eliza as having given birth to 13 children with only 2 still living in 1900. Both her parents are listed as having been born in England. Eliza's birthplace is listed as NY. This information was found on Heritage Quest under: Series: T623 Roll: 955 Page: 116 According to her grave stone, Eliza Ann was born 18 Nov 1823 and died 19 Feb 1901. She is buried in the Boyce Family plot in Union Cemetery in Ramsey, Bergen Co., NJ. Of Edwin and Eliza's reported 13 children, only Harriet Eliza b. 16 July 1854 NY d. 30 Dec 1912 Ramsey, Bergen Co., NJ, Emily b. c1862 NY, and William b. c1867 NY are known. I would dearly love to learn more about Edwin's origins and Eliza Ann's maiden name. If anyone on the list can help with my Wallace ancestors, I would greatly appreciate it. Gail Phares Walkley

Hi Ginny, Connie & June: You can find my extensive Wallace (and some Faris) data in my GEDCOM at http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=bartstam and much more detail in my 1996 book "Six Wallace Brothers & their Descendants from Chanceford Twp., York Co., PA in the mid-18th Century". I understand that the latter has been microfilmed by the Mormons (LDS film #2055299, item #9). Last year Donna Truble (Dbtruble@aol.com) sent me some data on the line of Rev. William Wallace Faris, son of Rev. John McDonald & Anna Elizabeth (Wallace) Faris. Your additions, corrections, etc., would be appreciated. Regards, Bill Barton bartstam@juno.com
Wallace's in Arkansas: I am looking for a great uncle, Arthur Lonsdale Wallace, who, according to family word of mouth moved to Arkansas. I know very little about him - born October 24, 1868 in Hope Township, Ontario. A family picture taken 1906 shows him married with two children, a girl about 10 or twelve and a another child in arms. I don't know if he was married before or after moving to the USA. Has any Wallace researcher come across an Arthur Lonsdale Wallace? I would greatly appreciate any enlightenment Thanks Harry Rogers
Connie and June, I am following this line, too, although I haven't really worked on it. My husband's line is though Moses, William and Moses, brother of Rebecca who married Robert Barton. Glad to see all the new activity on the Wallace list. For more than 12 years this has been my brick wall: I'm looking for the parents or siblings of Elizabeth Frances WALLACE, born in either Champaign County., OH (death certificate says) or Muskingum County, OH (Civil War pension application says) in 1844 or 1845. Her mother's maiden name may be LLOYD. She married Hiram E. Ervin 3 Dec 1861. They had 10 children. She died in October 1922 in Springfield, OH, Clark County. Info to share on descendants. Is anyone researching William Robert Wallace who married Catherine Leverett? They were both born in South Carolina and are living in Alabama in the 1850 & 1860 (Chambers Co.census) & 1870 & 1880 (Lee County, AL census). We will be happy to share any information we have on the family. Their youngest daughter Eliza Jane Wallace who married James Wesley Yarbrough is our line. Carole & Floyd
%%%%%%%% WELCOME %%%%%%%% WELCOME to the WALLACE Family mailing list. You are currently subscribed in "MAIL mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to WALLACE as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in Genealogy or History related to the WALLACE Family, including WALLIS, WALLAS, or any other related spelling. My name is Charles E. ("Chuck") Carter, and I'm the owner of this list. I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules and guidelines. %%%%%%%% GENERAL %%%%%%%% * Please keep this message. I recommend that you keep a copy on file in your computer as well as a printed paper copy that you can easily find. * You may see some new terms and prases here along with exacting instructions about sending commands, etc. You will get used to it soon enough - don't let it bother you. In order to make things work well, you must follow the instructions - to the letter. If you leave something out of a command or put something extra in, it won't work. This is because of the way computer programs work. * Remember these addresses: * If you need help, contact ME. My address is: cetracer@comcast.net * To post a message to this list, I.e. Genealogical data, queries, etc (stuff you want other members to read) send it to: WALLACE-L@rootsweb.Com * To subscribe or unsubscribe, send a message to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com ( for the MAIL mode ) or WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com ( for DIGEST mode ) %%%%%%%% RULES %%%%%%%% * This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, primarily regarding WALLACE and related families. Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, healdry, historical sketches, WALLACE settlements, census data, wills, family Bibles, vital records, web sites, etc., as relates to the WALLACE family is encouraged as well as discussion of collateral families. Public announcements of information of interest to Genealogists in general, thought it may not be WALLACE specific is permitted, but please use discretion. * Do not post virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, etc. For information on virus hoaxes and urban legends, see: http://www.kumite com/myths/ among others. * Please do not send attachments (messages with files appended) to the list. If you have a file you would like to share with members, announce what you have to offer, then send the file only to those who request it, via private email. There are many WALLACE branches, and not everyone will want the data on your file. * No rude comments or flaiming in this list! No discussion of flaming in the list. For definitions of flaming and related information, see: http://www.man.ac.uk/~zisiira/Netiquette/flame.html and http://www.pass.wayne.edu/~twk/flaming.HTML * Do not impose any other rules or conditions, expressed or implied elsewhere, upon this list. Rules for other forums may not necessarily apply here. Do not try to regulate this list. If you do not like the way someone formats their queries or responses, or the content of their subject titles, take it up with the listowner (ME), NOT in the list. The list is for Genealogy and History. * Advertising. Technically, RootsWeb has a "no commercial use" policy. Like all RootsWeb policies, though, the last thing that we want is for policy to get in the way of our doing genealogy. Therefore, the WALLACE Family list will accept brief announcements of books and other resource material for sale that is specifically related to this county. Don't include prices and ordering info; just include a pointer to a URL, a commercial mailing list, or an e-mail address where the complete ordering information can be found. In case In case of doubt, send the message to the me, Charles E. Carter, list custodian, at < cetracer@comcast.net >, and I'll review it and forward it to the list if appropriate. * Copyrights. Any person sending a message to this list retains the copyright to it. By sending the message, you grant to the list custodian, and to his heirs and assigns forever, permission to distribute copies of the message to other list members, to store archival copies of the message, and to make the archival copies available to the Internet community at large. You also grant to other list members the right to quote your message in part or in total as a part of their replies sent back to the list. %%%%%%%% GUIDLINES %%%%%%%% * Small gedcom files are discouraged but not banned from the list (send in a message, NOT as a file attachment) as long as the resulting message is no larger than 61,440 bytes maximum. * Try to keep quoting to a minimum. "Quoting" is repeating text of the message you are replying to. Some quoting is necessary to remind other readers what the thread is about, but do try to use good judgement. Quoting the previous writer's signature block or surname list is totally unnecessary * Surname lists are okay, but please try to limit them to say, half a dozen names. Any more than that and many people just won't read them. Try keeping several small lists and rotate them with each succeeding message. %%%%%%%% SUBSCRIPTIONS %%%%%%%% * Subscription commands to to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com - or - WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com I repeat, to subscribe or to unsubscribe send an email to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com - or - WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com and put subscribe (and nothing else) or unsubscribe (and nothing else) in the body of the message. Please remember, commands go to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com - or - WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com and not to the list! You can use CAPS or lowercase, it doesn't matter. %%%%%%%% POSTING MESSAGES %%%%%%%% * To post a message (query, reply or other WALLACE data) to the list, send it to: WALLACE-L@rootsweb.com It also helps to remember to put something in the "subject line". %%%%%%%% TIPS %%%%%%%% * Accuracy is important and sources are vital. Ancestor lists are worthless if the information is wrong. * All information need not be accompanied by source citations, but I do recommend strongly that posts either include sources or a note stating that they are available on request. * If information is speculation, then label it as such until it is proven or commonly accepted as fact. * When posting your query, try to give as much informaiton as you know, I.e. dates and places of all vital events, if known, along with enough other readers can positively identify if they are researching the same family. Anyone out there researching WALLACE's?" just doesn't cut it! * When replying to the list (this can also apply to "private" replies), try to quote some portions of the previous message so that othe readers are reminded what the "thread" is about. Make it clear what is quoted material and what you are adding. Most mail readers take care of this for you be inserting greater-than signs ">" at the beginning of each quoted line or possibly double brackets "<<" before and ">>" after the quoted piece. Use standard Windows procedures to "cut" unnecessary material. * Post your query frequently, perhaps once a month, if you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are joining the list all the time and they may have the information you need. * Please send WALLACE replies to the list, not just to the original poster. Other members may benefit from the data you provide. %%%%%%%% FURTHER INFORMATION %%%%%%%% See the following URL's for information on Genealogy lists: http://users.aol.com/johnf/14246/gen_mail.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist %%%%%%%% ABOUT ROOTSWEB %%%%%%%% RootsWeb was founded in 1996 by Dr. Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson. Hello, It's been a long time since I last sent out the messages you will soon be receiving. #1: SUGGESTED GUIDELINES TO GET ANSWERS, and also proper etiquette in sending & responding to email messages on the list. They are not new, I've used these suggestions for at least the last 10 years since the lists were organized. I did not write them, Tim Carter, who was a member of the original CARTER Family list authored the original message. He gave me permission to use the same and I've found it quite useful. So, when it comes please read it and try to use some of the suggestions. One of the MAJOR COMPLAINTS I've received lately, and to be blunt, it annoys me also, is the failure to change subject lines. When someone posts a message to the list, rather than changing the subject line (if the subject changes), many will continue to tag on that same subject. Even if it has no bearing on the content of their post. Please, use the appropriate subject line, I guarantee it will increase the chances of your message being read. Also, when replying to a message, please try to <------------<snip>---------------> out unnecessary text. Again, it will increase the chances your message will be read. Finally, #2: Everyone is going to receive an undated copy of the WELCOME MESSAGE to the particular list. If you haven't read it for a while, once again, please take time and read it. SUGGESTED GUIDELINES to HELP GET ANSWERS by Tim Carter If I am going to be a writer and try to get your attention so that you will help me, I must be courteous to you; I must be thoughtful enough to present materials in such a manner as to get and keep your attention; I must write my material in a way that makes it fast, easy, and pleasant to read. With these thoughts in mind, consider that the following are NOT RULES, but they are SUGGESTED GUIDELINES for use by genealogy researchers. Also, if you are a member/user on a list which has an owner or moderator who specifies how to post to that particular list, please, try to post to that list in accordance with his/her instructions. 1) What are you talking about? What is your Subject? 2) Are you shouting at the reader? 3-7) Typing names so they are easy to read. 8) Where and How to Reply. 9-10) Flaming. 11) Are you less considerate and more disrespectful than the flamer? than the sympathizers? 12) You want to reply, but, Are You Ready? 1) Do you really want me to read your message? Many users of the lists use the subject line to speed up their search. Messages with blank subject lines are deleted in bulk before any reading is attempted. Both the sender and the receiver have "lost" when a connection they have for each other is not made because of a subject omitted. 2) Generally, type everything in lower case (small) letters. Typing everything in ALL CAPS is considered SHOUTING AT THE READER. 3) ALWAYS type SURNAMES in upper case (CAPITAL) letters. 4) When listing SURNAMES only, enter a comma and two spaces between the names. This makes for faster, easier reading: CARTER, DELOACH, KIRBY, LEE, PEDRON (PLEASE, do not space between letters of the name, and do not use special characters within a name) 5) DO NOT use the asterisk * or the slash / as a separator of SURNAMES. Use this same rule for applying other special characters in your writings. This is hard on the eyes, and some of us won't read it. Therefore, you and I might miss a perfect opportunity to find a connection to one of the names we are both researching. 6) Generally, type names as follows: SURNAME, First Second Third "Nickname" Title (Although it won't always work out this way, try to make it a standard way of writing names.) Example: CARTER, Elisha Joseph Goodwin "Joe" Rev 7) When listing SURNAMES with locations, try to make the listings as columns if possible. At least enter some spaces to make for easier, faster reading: CARTER > NC, SC, MS, AR LEE > NC, SC, TN, AR JONES > FL, AL, TN, GA OWENS > NC, GA, LA KIRBY > AR WOOD > TN,AR Realize that the progression of states is not meant to be alphabetical, but represents the general movement (or migration) of the family or individual being researched, and are the locations being searched. 8) When you reply (respond) to a message received on a list, PLEASE, be aware of where your reply is going "before you send it.". Some of the lists are set up so the REPLY automatically returns your message to the list. Other lists automatically return your replies to the originator of the message. AGAIN, PLEASE double check the return address where you are sending the answer to that post. A BIG THANK YOU for your help on this. 9) Please, DO NOT flame someone (put them down rather rudely) for something they have done. The individual may be new and did not realize what was correct and proper. Or, an individual can be in a hurry and just do things wrong. (Personally, I do not wish to reduce <degrade> myself to the low level of flaming someone. I have been flamed and know how bad it made me feel, even though I had not intended to hurt or upset anyone.) Consider that in most instances the act is not on purpose, but accidental. If you must reply, be courteous, polite, and positive and send them a private note. 10) Above all, DO NOT flame someone publicly on one of the lists. It is bad manners on the part of the person doing the flaming, and shows disrespect toward all other members of the list. (They do not want to hear the flamer's whining about what someone has supposedly done to the flamer or to them. That is why there are always so many rude, ill-natured replies afterwards.) 11) Do you reply to the flamer, and send it to the list? Then, you have been more disrespectful to fellow list members than was the flamer. You have become a part of the continuing nuisance to the list. Does someone have a loss, and accidentally post it to the list? Are you one of the sympathizers that also post your condolences to the list? You have become a part of the continuing nuisance to the list. Are you one of those that posts to the list in anger or dismay, trying to get the sympathizers to stop posting? You have added fuel to the fire - you helped increase the problem. Please stop and think before posting ANY OFF SUBJECT REPLY to a list. 12) Do you really want to flame someone? Go look in the mirror. That person you are looking at knows exactly how you feel and what you are thinking. Therefore, that person knows exactly how to take what you are saying. Furthermore, if that person in the mirror smiles at you, you are going to have to smile back. And, if you smile at the person in the mirror and that person in the mirror does not smile back at you, you are not ready to write to anyone yet. Now, let's work together and find some genealogy answers. Thank you. Charles E.
