    1. GREAT BOOK on Sir William Wallace
    2. To all Wallace decendants: There is a great book on the shelves of your local library on the life and times of the most famous (infamous) of all Wallaces, Sir William Wallace. The book is a historical piece, but the name is BRAVE HEART -- (yea I know they made it into a movie). This is a history book with footnotes and the whole nine yards of references. It is long - it is history -at times tedious but so very informative of the man and his times. (13 th century Scotland). Do yourself a favor and try to get through it. By the way all of you that are decended from him (like my family thinks). The only legal (and that is questionable) child he had was a female and she probably did not marry a Wallace. Read the book to find out the rest of the story. Mike Cross Wallace Decendant from Piedmont region of NC.

    3. Wallace Cousins, It's good to be back! I think that you all will agree with that! Following is a "Temporary" Welcome Message. When I have the time, (hopefully this long weekend) I will refine the message into one for our list rather than using this "generic" message. Until then, this message will at least give you instructions on how to use the new list and the SmartList mail program. Have a Happy & Safe weekend. Chuck Carter xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Welcome to the WALLACE mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to WALLACE as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com. 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to WALLACE-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.

    3. Wow!! I'm impressed, I forwarded along a message to the list from a cousin, Dwight Booth and it was posted to the list in just a couple of minutes. It's like the saying goes, there IS a silver lining behind every dark cloud. As much as the MAISER fiasco set us all behind, I truly believe that the RootsWeb association will benefit us all.
