At an estate sale recently I purchased a large number of books. Of the few I have looked at, these three seem to have quite a few surnames: "Beard Mosaic" by Virginia B Astering, copyright 1973 "Hugh Young a Surgeon's Auotbiography" by Hugh Hampton Young, copyright 1940 "Rebels and Gentlmen-Philadelphia in the age of Franklin" by Carl and Jessica Bridenbaugh copyright 1942. I will do look ups...please contact me personally at: jhubb22@aol.com

Cousins, An Update from Karen Isaacson at RootsWeb regarding the JUNO problem I told you about in an earlier message, and general internet / e-mail problems that have been experienced by the whole web recently. Hello, Received in today's snail mail Thomas WALLACE's death certificate. Thomas was born 25 April 1860 in Ayrshire Co., Scotland, and died in Ada, OK on 18 June 1932. This cert says that his father was James WALLACE with birthplace also of Ayrshire, Scotland, and mother a DiJon NISBIT, birthplace of Scotland. Just curious if these names are familiar to any of you Wallace researchers. Thanks! Teddy in CA
To All Wallace Researchers: I got a message regarding Caleb Wallace in response to my post on the Peter Wallace family and the book " The Wallace Family in America" and I would like to post to the list my response. Jim, Gee! I'm almost as excited as you are and this isn't even my Wallace family!! Let me pick up where I left off in my message to the Wallace List and you be the judge. From the book as follows: " All that is known of this entire family comes through Caleb Wallace, whose biographer relates the career of a remarkable citizen, and United States Judge, who throughout a busy and strenuous life was ever a leader amoung the men of his time; active in shaping the legislation of Virginia, before the Revolution, and of Kentucky, after her admission as a State, in 1792. He was a graduate of Princeton, as was also President Madison, with whom he maintained relations of friendship. He studied for and entered the Presbyterian ministry, in which he held a distinguished place until the troublous times preceding the breaking out of war, when he became noted as a staunch advocate of emancipation from the tyranny of King and Parliament; and the separation of Church and State; including entire freedom of conscience." " He married first, his cousin, Sarah McDowell, born October 10, 1755, who died early in 1776, leaving no issue; and second, in 1779, Rosanna, daughter of Captain Israel Christian, born in 1754, by whom he had nine children, born as follows: Samuel McDowell, April 16, 1780 William C., October 16, 1781, who died young Priscilla C., March 12, 1785 Caleb Baker, May 22, 1787 John, October 13, 1789 Henry, March 24, 1792 William Christian, April 15, 1794 Charles, September 9, 1796 Christian, November 21 1800 Mrs Rosanna (Christian) Wallace, died December 4, 1804; and he married third, Mrs Mary Brown. Judge Caleb Wallace died in 1814, at his home in Woodford county, Kentucky" The above Wallace family may also be descendants of Sir William Wallace (not of Brave Heart fame) born abt 1654, and Elizabeth Bruce, born abt 1658. A lady by the name of Beth Smarr, who is a writer and teacher, may be able to tell you more about that family. Her email address a year ago was aplitsmart@aol.com . I don't know if that is still a good address. I bought my copy of " The Wallace Family in America" from the Clan Wallace Society. The book is only 27 pages and was about $10.50. If you like, I can copy the portion of the book that you are interested in and mail it to you. Let me know. The Clan Wallace Society's address is: Tom Wallace, Clan Wallace Society P.O. Box 273 Jonesborough, TN. 37659 I hope the above information gives you the connection you were lookin for. I am also going to forward a copy of this to the Wallace List. DB> Dwight (Wallace) Booth I thought I would post this to the Wallace List because it may be of interest to others . I have a book " The Wallace Family in America" written by James A. Phelps and published in 1914 by William M. Clemens. In this book, it gives an account of a Peter Wallace that is very simular to the family that Dwight Booth speaks of. Dwight, I don't know if this will make any connections for you or not, but here is what I have, as follows; "About 1730, a company of Scotch-Irish immigrants were landed at Philadelphia, and after a brief sojourn went out to Landcaster. Amoung them were the brothers Peter and William Wallace, whose wives were sisters named respectively, Elizabeth and Hannah Woods. "Peter Woods, the patriarch of the family, was an enterprising individual restless and loquacious, bent on the acquisition of an extended domain. He fell in with one John Lewis, who was about to remove his family to a location he had selected for preemption, in the valley of Virginia, west of the Blue Ridge. Determining to accompany him, Peter Woods placed his family and affairs in charge of his three sons-in-laws, and departed with the Lewis family early in 1734, passing southwestward across the Susquehanna, throught the country bordering the Potomac, and crossing stream, they went down the Valley east of the Alleghenies, to the vicinity of what is now Staunton, VA. where Lewis proposed to settle." " Early in the spring of 1735, two of the young men journeyed to Albemarle county, VA, one of whom remained and raised a crop of corn; the other returning to forward the preparations for the transfer of their entire connection to that section---later; and that was accomplished the following spring." " The old people settled on the site selected by the father; Peter Wallace, a little farther south; William next; and John MCdowell, third of the son-in-laws, at Meacham's river: there they lived and reared their children." " The children of Peter and Elizabeth (Woods) Wallace, were: Andrew, Adam, Samuel, and Peter; all of whom are supposed to have been born in Ireland; and little is known of their subsequent history, except,-- that Andrew married Cathrine Parks, and settled near the Allegheny mountains; and that the children of Peter, Jr., were: Joseph, Samuel, Janet, and Rachel; while Samuel married Esther, daughter of Caleb Baker, of Prince Edward county, settling in Charlotte county, where their children were born; removing later to Kentucky." " The children of Samuel and Esther (Baker) Wallace were; Caleb, born 1742, Elizabeth, born in 1745, Andrew, born September 25, 1748, and Samuel, unrecorded and unheard of after he returned to Scotland." The history goes on to tell about the descendants of Caleb Wallace, who did have a son named Samuel, born in 1780. Judge Caleb Wallace died in 1814 in Woodford county Kentucky. Hope this helps.
