Looking for information on my Grandfather, Henry William Wallace. He was born in Margate, Kent. I have the information from the 1881 census but have been unable to get any further back. His father was George Wallace, married to Mary Jane Doughty. George was apparently born in 1845? but I can find no information to substantiate this. Thaks for any help you can give. Will of Matthew Wallace (son of Richard and Grace White Wallace) of Somerset Co., MD, 19 June 1761/25 May 1762. wife-Mary Wallace, dwelling plantation and use of land in Rock Creek. son-Joseph Wallace, one shilling in silver and all my land; if Joseph dies without heirs, land to son, David Wallace. son-William Wallace, wearing clothes and boat. dau-Bridgett Reavill, one shilling in silver. son-Richard Wallace, one shilling in silver. grandson-George Travis, one shilling in silver. son-Matthew Wallace, one shilling in silver. son-David Wallace, one shilling in silver. dau-Mary Roe, ten pounds dau-Elizabeth Travis, ten pounds. dau-Leah Wallace, negro girl, bed & furniture and ten pounds. Anne Windsor-daughter of my wife, Mary Wallace, negro girl. Remainder of personal estate to wife, Mary Wallace, except she shall give schooling as far as the Rule of Practice perfect to my four children-Joseph Wallace, David Wallace, James Wallace and Mary Wallace. Anne Windsor, dau of wife, Mary Wallace, was mentioned in the will as being under 16 years of age. Both Mathew and Mary Wallace had been married previously. Joseph, David, James and Mary Wallace were minors at the time Mathew wrote his will. It appears that Mathew named two daughters "Mary." Mary Wallace was a minor in 1761; daughter, Mary Roe, was the wife of Nicholas Rowe/Row (She may have been daughter of Mathew's first wife). The widow, Mary Wallace, married Rencher Roberts 1 Aug 1762, and Rencher Roberts, along with Mary ______ Windsor Wallace Roberts, administered the estate of Matthew Wallace. Elizabeth Wallace married Jacobus Travis. Matthew Wallace gave a deposition re the tract JAMES DELIGHT of Dames Quarter on 14 Jan 1754; the deposition contains the information that he 52 years of age, and was the son of Richard Wallace, so Matthew was born ca 1702. (Re the son, William Wallace, I do not have any info on this William; there were several William Wallaces in Somerset Co. in the 1700s but I have not yet found one in the right time or place to have been the son of Matthew, and would be interested to know if anyone else has info on him). Iwould appreciate any information that anyone might have about my grandmother Mary E. Wallace. She married Arthur Wells(Welles) of New Haven CN. and had a son named Oliver Robert Welles, my dad. I have been hitting dead ends for several weeks. No older family members, bibles etc. to refer to. Mary was sometimes called "Aunt Mae" and Oliver was also known as "Pete". Mary died in 1953-54 in Newe Haven. Arthur died in 1968 in new Haven. Oliver died in 1991 in East Quogue/Southampton, NY. Oliver married Virgina Reiser (my mom) Oct. 29, 1940 in New Haven. Thanks-Pat
I just received the following message and I want to check to see if these WALLACEs are descendants of William WALLACE through his son, Peter. They lived in Virginia and moved to the Anderson County, TN area. Is anyone researching this line? If so, could you please send me a ged.com or other files on them? Thank you. Ima **************************************************************** Hi Ima: I have the Maranda Wallace you mentioned as the daughter of John Wallace (1827 to 1880-1900) and Abby Reynolds (1825-1826 to aft 1900). I have this John Wallace as the son of Robert Wallace ( 1807 to 1850-1860) and Maranda Maude Landrum (1803 to ?). I have Robert Wallace as the son of John Wallace (1786-1790 to ?) and Phoebe Robbins (1790 to ?). I have this John Wallace as the son of Scotch John Wallace and Jane (Jennie) Miller who are the progenitors of most of the Anderson Co Wallaces.
Oh Jean -- what a great thing you've done. You've filled in a really big hole for me. Thanks so much. Jeanne Scott
In response to Jeanne Scott and Jean Gayle messages noted at end: Do you have any further information on the descendents of Richard Wallace (d.1744/45) and Grace White? of Dames Quarter, Somerset Co. MD. Especially of their grandson William Wallace who contested the will of his father (Matthew). I think this is the same Richard Wallace family that John Polk, of the list, is researching. Richard Wallace patented land in Dames Quarter area, Somerset Co.--- "Friend's Acceptance or Friends Content", MD in 1701 resurveyed by Richard Wallace and son--n-law John White. I also have noted from information on the "Nelms Accounts Store" ledgers in Somerset Co., that a Richard Sammons Wallace of Dame Quarter purchased stamped cotton, rum, and sleve buttons. Also Sarah Wallace of Dame Quarter bought something from "Ledger H". The ledger covered purchases between 1775 and 1787. In addition I have information from researcher, Will Brown, that a Richard Wallace married a Mary Brown. She was born April 1731 and died after 15 Feb 1763 Also researcher, Bev DuVal in Arizona noted: "I'm seeking information on my husband's gr-gr-grandfather, Richard (David) WALLACE, b. variously 1811 or 1816 in MD, d. 7 Feb 1877, Somerset Co., MD., m.17 Oct 1837 in Allen, MD (now Wicomico Co.) to Matilda CAREW (widow of Tuman McDORMAN or DORMAN). Believe his parents were Richard WALLACE and Elizabeth BROWN, possibly married in Fredericksburg, VA. " I'd like to learn more about the Richard Wallace lines of Dames Quarters. There are a few of us out there with the same interests. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely Donna Wendt [email protected] in Fayetteville, NC ~~~~~ggg-dau of Wm Dowell Wallace of IN and Iowa ~~~~~gggg-dau of Joshua Wallace b. abt 1785 Dover Delaware. He also mentioned grandson, John, son of Oliver Wallace. Jean Gayle >> >>> prior posting of Jeanne Scott: Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 15:34:26 EDT From: [email protected] I have Matthew Wallace b. about 1648 in Ireland; d. between 1714/15 in Manokin River, Somerset Co. MD; m. Elizabeth Alexander b. 1650; d. 1692. Richard Wallace b. about 1673 in Dames Quarter area of Somerset Co., MD; d. 1745 in the same area as far as I know; m. Grace White b. 1678; d. post 1757. Matthew Wallace b. about 1700 in Dames Quarter area, Somerset Co., MD; d. 1761 m. Mary (?) Their children were: William Elizabeth b. about 1735 maybe a year or two later Leah b. about 1753 Joseph Thomas I have no idea of the order in which these children should be. But believe William and Elizabeth are the earliest and close to the same age. There may have been other children but these are the ones mentioned in court proceedings when William contested the will so I tend to think this is a complete list. I didn't mention the children of the 1st Matthew as I have several lists from different people and they all are long and differ in some ways. If anyone would like the list that I consider the most accurate, please e-mail me. I have nothing on Richard and Grace's children except they had Matthew. If anyone is interest in my sources, e-mail me and I'll give them to you. Jeanne Scott>>>

Wondering if anyone has any information on the Frank Wallace who married and was later divorced by actress Mae West. Family legend has it that this Frank Wallace is connected to my Wallaces of Brooklyn, NY. I understand Mae West's father was a boxer, or somehow active within the sport of boxing, referree? coach?, something else? My uncle's uncle was noted boxer Gentleman Jack Skelly from the same era, so I think there may be a connection. Can anyone help? Debbie O'Reilly [email protected] Midlothian, VA
Is there anyone on the list that has handy access to 1870 Missouri Census?
I have to keep trying...... Celia Jane Smith born Mo. 1873, married John Henry WALLACE in Missouri. By 1903 they were in Cherokee Co. Oklahoma Indian Territory. John Henry was born around 1859/60 to William and Martha (Shake) Wallace. He was born in Indiana. There were siblings, but I only now the names Rhodie and George who was much younger. I have no idea when they moved to Missouri. jp
