    1. [WALLACE-L] Wallis/Wallace
    2. Sorry Beverly, I meant for that to go to the list. I am searching for Martha Susan Wallis, or could poss. be a Mary Susan Wallis. I do not know whom her parents or siblings are. I found her along with my g-grandfather and their children in an 1880 Ark census. The census taker recorded that she was 33 yrs of age, b. in Ala, and both her parents born in NC. If any of you know whom my Susan Wallis, b. ca 1847 belongs to, PLEASE let me know. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks, gail

Hi Ed, Your query is very interesting to me. We have a James Wilson Wallace b. December 12 1891 in MO, I assume it was in Greene Co., as that is where his parents were living at the time. His parents were Thomas Jefferson Wallace and Mary B. Black, Thomas' second wife. They also had a daughter, Minnie Gertrude born January 12, 1889 in MO. Obviously, this isn't your James W., but it makes me wonder if the two families aren't somehow related, living in the same county and all. Thomas is probably but not necessarily too old to be your James' brother, although that was my first thought about the names. He was born in middle Tennessee July 27, 1823. He married Sarah M. Bayless (born September 4, 1827) January 21, 1847. They were listed in the 1850 DeKalb County, AL census with Sarah E. age 2 born in AL, Martha E. age almost 1 born in AL. They were next found in the 1860 Carroll County, Arkansas census with additional family of Nancy J. age 9 born in AL, Cynthia L. age 5 born in AR, John W. age 4 mos born in AR. Their family migrated with the Bayless family from AL to AR and again to MO. In the 1870 Greene County, MO census they included Thomas B. age 10 born in AR, Robert G. age 8 born in AR, Mary S. age 6 born in MO, Henry S. age 4 born in MO, and Alice S. age 3 born in MO. Thomas' first wife Sarah died February 9, 1887, and he remarried April 19, 1887 to Mary Black. Do any of these names sound familiar to you, or repeat in your family? If you have any more info you can send me on your families, I've been collecting MO Wallaces and I'll look through and see if I see any connections. Thanks, Laurie

    3. You can see my Wallace line at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/9558/simeon_wallace.html. I'm a descendant of Simeon (Simon?) Wallace born abt 1773 in NC, married to an Elizabeth (unknown maiden name). I don't know if they married in NC or TN or VA, but they eventually show up in Logan Co VA in the early 1800's. Simeon died sometime before 1823 since Elizabeth shows up as head of household in the 1824 Logan Co VA Tax List. Son Hiram married twice or three times in Wyoming Co WV and most likely died there. Son Solomon, my 3rd GR-Grandfather married twice in Logan Co VA and moved with first wife Lucinda to Pike Co KY where Lucinda died. Solomon remarried shortly thereafter to Sarah New and during the Civil War, the family moved on to Lawrence Co KY where Solomon died in 1864. My particular branch of this family settled in Pike Co KY. Simeon and Elizabeth had two other sons who haven't been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt yet.....named Thomas and Henry. If anyone connects with my line, please give me a holler! Tara Wallace-Maggard --- T Maggard --- [email protected] --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.

Wallace b1847 & Laura Wallace (nee ?) b1852. I was only told in 1994, just before my 60th birthday, that he was my biological father, but both he and my mother passed on before I knew any of this, and although I traced his daughters 5 years ago and sent my photograph showing my very strong resemblance to him, and provided official Military documentation proving he was in UK in 1933 - 9 months before I was born there in 1934, and evidence of his association with my mother, they ignore all my requests for information. My main objective is to trace his half sisters Dorothy & Hope, whom I understand are still living and have proof that he is my father, but although his daughters promised to contact them for me 5 years ago, I don't think they did so, and they will not tell me where they are or give me any information or help whatsoever, but I am told that Dorothy could now be Dorothy Duncan and living in or near Orlando Florida, and Hope could be in North Carolina My secondary objective is to find the link between my father's grandfather and the Williams family, and I have been given the name Clifton Williams (Commander) in this regard. My father's wife was a descendant of President Grant, and some of her family married into the Hanbury-Williams family, but I don't know if there is any actual Williams blood link to my father. Yours hopefully, Donald Browne

Around 1926, Charles Bernard married Wilburta Jones probably in Alabama. Charles Bernard and Wilburta Wallace had one son, Charles Douglas Wallace born 30 Aug 1927 in Cordova, Walker County, Alabama. The marriage to Wilburta Jones was a second marriage for Charles Bernard and he had at least one child, possibly a son, from his previous marriage. A picture of Charles Bernard Wallace as a young man shows him with two friends or relatives, Ralph McBride and Harry King. I would appreciate any information on Charles Bernard Wallace, his parents, his first marriage/children and his ancestors. Thanks. Dorothy K. Wallace

    1. [WALLACE-L] Josiah Wallace
    2. I am looking for information relating to my gg-grandfather, Josiah Wallace who was in Daviess, Co., IN as early as 1812 along with a John Wallace. These are not to be confused with a Rev. John Wallace with a son named Josiah that were also early residents of Daviess Co. My Josiah married Elizabeth Magill Walker in Dec. 1818 and had died prior to 3 July 1819 when his estate was put in probate. He left a widow, Elizabeth Wallace, and a son also named Josiah. This widow Elizabeth Wallace married William Sparks in 1829. Just to add to my confusion (I'm sure), there was also another Davies Co. widow, Elizabeth Wallace, in this time period, that married a Stephenson. My g-grandfather, Josiah #2, married Anna Grimsley in Knox Co., IN 6 Feb. 1844 and was in Keokuk Co., IA by the 1850 census. Any help with this obscure Indiana Wallace branch would be greatfully appreciated. Floyd Oakes, Monroe, OR

    2. Bob Wallace
    3. In 1911 the Col. Francis Ward pumping station was under construction at the foot of Porter Ave. in Buffalo when it collapsed killing 8 men. My Great grandfather Robert A. Wallace was the supervising architect for this project. There is a mention of this incident in "Second looks" by Eberle and Grande on page 171. He went on to design other pumping stations, schools and churches in the United States and Canada, including Hutchinson High School, public schools 1, 19 and 28, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, North Avenue Baptist Church and the Kensington water tower. I would like to locate news reports and public records of the pumping station collapse. Any information on the other buildings he designed would also be appreciated. 3. I am sending the following to the list. It will be published in a book on the history of San Saba County, Texas. Since it involves our surname, I thought I'd share it with you. The right to any further publication of this is reserved and copyrighted by me, EXCEPT in the case of non-profit genealogical uses. Ima J. Stephens **************************************************************** ALEXANDER Family of San Saba: Silas and Jesse by: Ima J. Stephens My ALEXANDER family of San Saba, Texas is made up of ALEXANDERs who descend from two separate families. They will probably connect at some point prior to 1814, but as of the publication date of this entry, I have not been able to ascertain the precise connection. I will begin with Silas Newton ALEXANDER. He was born on July 14, 1814. His parentage and birthplace is not known at this time. Silas died prior to 1850 when the states of origin of individuals were recorded in census records. He married Maranda MAY on April 13, 1832 in Lawrence County, Alabama. Maranda was the daughter of Woodson MAY and Elizabeth WHITE who were from the Lunenburg County area of Virginia. Woodson and Elizabeth lived in Rowan County, North Carolina prior to coming to Alabama. Silas and Maranda moved to the Cabot area in Prairie County, Arkansas, which was later included in the formation of Lonoke County. There is a family story which entails the murder of Silas ALEXANDER. I have no reason to doubt the story, but as a historian it is incumbent upon me to do my best to find primary source documents to corroborate it, which I have not yet accomplished. After Silas’ death, the family moved one unit at a time to San Saba, Texas. The move from Arkansas was led by Silas’ eldest son, William Robert ALEXANDER. William’s brother, James Newton ALEXANDER, came to visit him in Texas in December of 1877 and he died before he could return to Arkansas. James’ family consisted of his wife, Deborah, and 5 children, one of whom was just over 2 months old. This baby was my grandmother, Emma Bell ALEXANDER. Deborah died in 1884 and the children were taken in by William Robert ALEXANDER, which meant that they were required to relocate to Texas. All of James’ and Deborah’s children grew to adulthood and only one died before she could marry and begin her own family. This was Mary Maranda (Molly) ALEXANDER. She died when she was 21. My grandmother, Emma Bell ALEXANDER, married John Washington STEPHENS in 1910. He had been married previously and he was 33 years her senior. John was a veteran of the Civil War where he served for the 10th Texas Infantry, Company C. John had 8 children from his first marriage who were all adults by the time of his marriage to Emma. The couple lived in Comanche County, Texas and had 6 children, one of whom died at age 9. John died in 1924. Although he was a Civil War pensioner, Emma was denied the rights to his pension after his death. Emma’s and John’s children lived the rest of their childhood in the Masonic Home in Fort Worth, Texas. Emma visited as much as she could, but it was very hard on her. She died in San Saba County, just over 2 ½ years after John. Emma was only 48 years old. Her death certificate states that she died of heart ailments, but I will take the liberty of implying that this included a broken heart. Jesse Rankin ALEXANDER was born July 15, 1815 in Blount County, Tennessee. He was a son of Benjamin Grayson ALEXANDER and Ruth WALLACE. Benjamin was the son of Oliver ALEXANDER who was a Revolutionary War veteran. Benjamin was an early settler in the Haywood County area of Tennessee. Jesse married Mary E. SMITH and had at least 3 children, one of whom was Deborah McCree ALEXANDER. Deborah married James Newton ALEXANDER in Prairie County, Arkansas and their children moved to San Saba, Texas after their deaths. It has been reported in other San Saba publications, erroneously, that Deborah’s birth surname was McCree. This was her middle name. Her line has been very well documented.
