I find a John Wallace, a Joseph Wallace, an Andrew Wallace and a Stephen Wallace, also a George Vastable, an unfamiliar name, but my ancestor paid his taxes! Possibly he was a son-in-law or a young relative. Also listed is a Hamilton Rogers who turns up in Bourbon Co. Ky with all of these people. Where were they before Loudon and where did John go?thanks for answering Scarlett I have heard of Caleb, cannot tie in.

    3. I am still searching for descendants of my great-Uncle, Sterling P. Wallace, b. 1879, Wayne CO. IL. son of David and Sarah Withers Wallace and brother of my grandfather, John Wallace. Sterling and John Wallace left Wayne CO. IL. sometimes after 1888, and moved to Dunklin Co. MO. and were living there in 1890 and both worked for the Rail Road. Sterling was living with his brother, John, and appeared on the census of 1900, Dunklin Co. MO. Sterling married Flunda ( Fannie) Edmaster on March 18, 1903, in Clarkton, Dunklin , CO. MO. Fannie Edmaster was born in IL. about 1978. If anyone has any information on Sterling P. Wallace or his descendants, please contact me. Thank you . Shirley Wallace Norton

    1. [WALLACE-L] Moses, William, Lodowick, Aaron, Daniel & John Wallace to Chanceford Twp., Yor
    2. Bill, Your e-mail certainly opened up lots of possibilities for the Delaware Wallaces. Not living around Delaware it's sometimes hard to imagine how close MD, DE and PA are -- in fact they all come together at one spot. According to the map, Muddy Creek, I assume Chanceford Twp, PA, where a John Wallace owned land in 1751, is only about 40 miles from that point where all three states come together - Cecil Co., MD; Lancaster (previously York) Co., PA, and NewCastle Co, DE. As you said: "John Wallace purchased land in New Munster Tract, Cecil Co., MD in 1714 with Matthew Wallace and Elias Alexander Witnesses." There is much association with the Wallaces and the Alexander's in this area. It is just west of Newark, DE. Connie Stovall's web site: www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/t/o/Connie-R-Stovall/index.html gives her report on the descendants of Matthew Wallace of Cecil Co.,MD who went to TN and NC. It would be nice to know how John Wallace was related. Also am wondering if Mathias might be another way of saying Matthew in those days. Also Lodowich is a great first name to research--haven't heard of too many (e.g. any) Lodowick Wallaces!! Hopefully more people will help us figure all this out. I will try to research the book you mentioned: >>For further information see William Wallace Barton & Jean Wallace Gayle, "Six Wallace Brothers & their Descendants from Chanceford Twp., York Co., PA, in the mid-18th Century" (1996). This book is out of print but can be rented from the Family History Library, microfilm #2055299, item #9)>>> Thanks for the input. They all settled in Chanceford Twp., York Co., PA, ca. 1747. Daniel settled in nearby Fawn Twp. The names of their parents are unknown but they probably didn't died before 1755. From where the six brothers came is also unknown but circumstantial evidence indicates the New Munster Tract, Cecil Co., MD. Furthermore, the progenitor may have been the JOHN WALLACE who in 1751 owned land in Chanceford Twp. and was listed along with Moses and William Wallace ........ >>

    3. One thought on your Hugh Wallace (mine was in Lunenburg VA in mid 1700s). In 1746 Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by the English and it became a crime to wear a kilt or play the pipes. Many Scots immigrated to the USA between 1746-1785 when the law was repealed. Perhaps most of the Hughs came during that time period. Judy

    1. [WALLACE-L] All who have a Hugh Wallace
    2. While at our wall of our Hugh, I thought I might put this out. I have noticed while reading the many leads, there seems to be no Hugh Wallace's prior to circa 1750. Now as you all know, fathers named their sons after themselves, their fathers, brothers, and uncles. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just burnt out and have the dreaded "CRS" disease? And to add, I can't even find out what his middle initial, stood for. Hope to hear from someone soon. By the way, if you haven "t heard, my wall is Hugh M Wallace, b. 14 Aug 1778, somewhere in Pa, d. 15 Feb 1864, in Clark Co., O Thanks, William W Wallace

    1. [WALLACE-L] Andrew WALLACE/WALLIS
    2. James Wm. Wallace
    3. Andrew WALLIS/WALLACE. He married Margaret CALBREATH in 1796 in Augusta County, Virginia. Andrew and Margaret were present in Augusta, VA for the settlement of Margaret's father's estate, Thomas CALBREATH(also spelled GALBRAITH), in 1801. Nothing is known of them until the 1820 census of Smith County, Tennessee where Margaret/Peggy appears as the head of household suggesting Andrew was deceased prior to 1820. Andrew and Margaret had a son, who I am descended from, named Thomas M. WALLIS/WALLACE. He was born in 1805 and claims Tennessee as his place of birth. Thomas M. WALLIS/WALLACE married Jane Calbreath, his cousin, in ca. 1825. Thomas M. WALLIS/WALLACE appears in census of 1840, 1850, Macon County, Tennessee as head of household with Margaret as a member of his household. Possible siblings of Thomas M. WALLIS/WALLACE are : David or David M. James, Jefferson, William C.and Sarah. Thomas M. WALLACE and Jane (CALBREATH) WALLACE had the following children: 1. Mary L. Wallace born ca 1836 TN 2. Andrew Smith Wallace born 1837 TN, Mar. Louisa Holcomb, died 1923 KY 3. William Alexander Wallace born 12-3-1839 TN, Mar. Eliza Crantz/Krantz, died 6-30-1919 KY 4. Thomas Wallace born 1841 TN 5. Hugh B. Wallace born 1843 TN 6. Sarah Jane Wallace born 7-20-1847 died 12-12-1890 KY, Margaret Wallace and her son Thomas M. Wallace were possibly in Blount County, TN prior to settling in Smith County, TN which later became Macon County. Thomas removed to Simpson County, Kentucky between 1850 and 1860. Any information regarding Andrew WALLIS/WALLACE is dearly needed. Will exchange information. James Wm. Wallace [email protected] James Wm. Wallace in Michigan [email protected]

    2. Dale Hancock
    3. This is a "Wallace"letter that was given to me by a Wallace cousin. It is,for sure,my Wallace line and seems to have a lot in common with what you are looking at.It is all that I have, but I do have it "sorted out" on my Family Tree program. Dale Note: My cousin had this research done(I think,in the 1940's)before genealogy had gotten very sophistocated. James Wallace came to America from north Ireland, probably went there from Scotland, and died 1724 in Warwick Co, Pa. He owned land in Philadelphia in 1683 bought from Wm. Penn. In 1700 he bought 500 acres in Philadelphia. In 1700 Chester Co stretched from Philadelphia indefinitely west. In 1701 he bought 500 acres in Chester Co. Though I have been unable to verify it, he claimed to be in direct lineage from Wm Wallace, the national hero of Scotland. In 1747 his son, Thomas Wallace, bought 130 acres in Chester Co. This Thomas Wallace had a son also named Thomas. The son Thomas was born 1744 and died 1824. He was a man of considerable means and seems to have been quite prominent in the area. Though his property seems to have been located principally in Chester Co he was apparently a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church of York Co at the time of his death since he is buried in that churchyard. His land was situated in the north section of Chester Co near the York Co line. He was a Revolutionary soldier being one of men of Marion, and his line has been accepted by the DAR. Born 1744 of Scotch descent in Chester Co, Pa he spent part of his life in Virginia from where he moved to Mecklenburg, NC. About 1778 he moved to Chester Co, SC, locating about eight miles north of the present town of Chester. Here he died 1824. This Thomas Wallace married in 1766 Margaret Lynn dau of James and Sarah Lynn. Margaret was born 1750 and died 1827 in Chester Co. She and Thomas are buried in Bethesda churchyard in York Co, SC. One of the seven children of Thomas and Margaret Wallace was Hugh Wallace born 1767 in Mecklenburg NC and died 1836 in York SC. He married Elvira Lynn dau of Wm and mary Lynn. She was born 1774 and died 1839. They are buried in Bethesda churchyard York SC. Hugh Wallace was a farmer and in faith a Presbyterian. One of the seven children of Hugh and Elvira Wallace was Wm Lynn Wallace born 1793 in Chester SC. He married Jane Gill Boyd whose grandmother was Maria Louisa Gaston of royal descent through Gaston de FoiX,the son of jean de Foix and Marie de Orleans sister of King Louis X11 of France. Soon after the death of his widowed mother in 1839 Wm Lynn Wallace moved with his wife and children from SC to what is now Tate Co, Ms. He died 1856, she died 1851 and are buried in Mt Zion cemetery. One of their seven children was James Hugh Wallace born Chester SC 1835. In early childhood with his parents he moved to what is now Tate Co. He enlisted in the Confederate army in 1860 under his brother Capt Wallace. He enlisted in Capt Samuel Crockett's Co, (DeSoto Guards), 1 Reg't, 4th Brig, Mississippi Vols. This unit later became Co "G", 9th Ms Vols and in 1861 in Pensacola they were mustered into the regular Confederate Army as Co "A", 9th Ms Inf Reg where James Hugh served as Senior 2nd Lt. He was ordered back to DeSota Co to serve in the Conscript Servece.in 1863. In 1864 he re-enlisted in Co "D" 18th Ms Cav and was promoted to 2nd Sgt by Gen Chalmers personally and served the remainder of the war in that role. In 1866 he married Mary Francis Hawkins, dau of Dr Joseph Hawkins and Francis Minter. She was born 1844 and died 1925. He died 1915 and they are buried in Mt Zion cemetery. Ada Wallace was the dau of James Hugh Wallace and Mary Francis Hawkins and was born 1873 in Tate Co.Ms. and died 1958. She married John Cal Hancock who was born 1874 and died 1924.Their Children: Marguerite 1896- m Herman Burford John Bowan 1899-1957 m Nell Johnson Lucus 1902-1965 Never marrird William C 1904- m Iola Bowden Elizabeth 1907-1942 never married Kathleen 1909- m Correll Clayton William C.Hancock and Iola (Bowden)Hancock are my parents
