    1. [ADMINISTRATIVE ITEM] Welcome Letter
    2. Charles E. Carter
    3. %%%%%%%% WELCOME %%%%%%%% WELCOME to the WALLACE Family mailing list. You are currently subscribed in "MAIL mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to WALLACE as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in Genealogy or History related to the WALLACE Family, including WALLIS, WALLAS, or any other related spelling. My name is Charles E. ("Chuck") Carter, and I'm the owner of this list. I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules and guidelines. %%%%%%%% GENERAL %%%%%%%% * Please keep this message. I recommend that you keep a copy on file in your computer as well as a printed paper copy that you can easily find. * You may see some new terms and prases here along with exacting instructions about sending commands, etc. You will get used to it soon enough - don't let it bother you. In order to make things work well, you must follow the instructions - to the letter. If you leave something out of a command or put something extra in, it won't work. This is because of the way computer programs work. * Remember these addresses: * If you need help, contact ME. My address is: cetracer@comcast.net * To post a message to this list, i.e. Genealogical data, queries, etc (stuff you want other members to read) send it to: WALLACE-L@rootsweb.com * To subscribe or unsubscribe, send a message to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com ( for the MAIL mode ) or WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com ( for DIGEST mode ) %%%%%%%% RULES %%%%%%%% * This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, primarily regarding WALLACE and related families. Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, healdry, historical sketches, WALLACE settlements, census data, wills, family Bibles, vital records, web sites, etc., as relates to the WALLACE family is encouraged as well as discussion of collateral families. Public announcements of information of interest to Genealogists in general, thought it may not be WALLACE specific is permitted, but please use discretion. * Do not post virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, etc. For information on virus hoaxes and urban legends, see: http://www.kumite.com/myths/ among others. * Please do not send attachments (messages with files appended) to the list. If you have a file you would like to share with members, announce what you have to offer, then send the file only to those who request it, via private email. There are many WALLACE branches, and not everyone will want the data on your file. * No rude comments or flaiming in this list! No discussion of flaming in the list. For definitions of flaming and related information, see: http://www.man.ac.uk/~zisiira/Netiquette/flame.html and http://www.pass.wayne.edu/~twk/flaming.html * Do not impose any other rules or conditions, expressed or implied elsewhere, upon this list. Rules for other forums may not necessarily apply here. Do not try to regulate this list. If you do not like the way someone formats their queries or responses, or the content of their subject titles, take it up with the listowner (ME), NOT in the list. The list is for Genealogy and History. * Advertising. Technically, RootsWeb has a "no commercial use" policy. Like all RootsWeb policies, though, the last thing that we want is for policy to get in the way of our doing genealogy. Therefore, the WALLACE Family list will accept brief announcements of books and other resource material for sale that is specifically related to this county. Don't include prices and ordering info; just include a pointer to a URL, a commercial mailing list, or an e-mail address where the complete ordering information can be found. In case In case of doubt, send the message to the me, Charles E. Carter, list custodian, at <cetracer@ameritech.net>, and I'll review it and forward it to the list if appropriate. * Copyrights. Any person sending a message to this list retains the copyright to it. By sending the message, you grant to the list custodian, and to his heirs and assigns forever, permission to distribute copies of the message to other list members, to store archival copies of the message, and to make the archival copies available to the Internet community at large You also grant to other list members the right to quote your message in part or in total as a part of their replies sent back to the list. %%%%%%%% GUIDLINES %%%%%%%% * Small gedcom files are discouraged but not banned from the list (send in a message, NOT as a file attachment) as long as the resulting message is no larger than 61,440 bytes maximum. * Try to keep quoting to a minimum. "Quoting" is repeating text of the message you are replying to. Some quoting is necessary to remind other readers what the thread is about, but do try to use good judgement. Quoting the previous writer's signature block or surname list is totally unnecessary. * Surname lists are okay, but please try to limit them to say, half a dozen names. Any more than that and many people just won't read them. Try keeping several small lists and rotate them with each succeeding message. %%%%%%%% SUBSCRIPTIONS %%%%%%%% * Subscription commands to to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com - or - WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com I repeat, to subscribe or to unsubscribe send an email to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com - or - WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com and put subscribe (and nothing else) or unsubscribe (and nothing else) in the body of the message. Please remember, commands go to: WALLACE-L-request@rootsweb.com - or - WALLACE-D-request@rootsweb.com and not to the list! You can use CAPS or lowercase, it doesn't matter. %%%%%%%% POSTING MESSAGES %%%%%%%% * To post a message (query, reply or other WALLACE data) to the list, send it to: WALLACE-L@rootsweb.com It also helps to remember to put something in the "subject line". %%%%%%%% TIPS %%%%%%%% * Accuracy is important and sources are vital. Ancestor lists are worthless if the information is wrong. * All information need not be accompanied by source citations, but I do recommend strongly that posts either include sources or a note stating that they are available on request. * If information is speculation, then label it as such until it is proven or commonly accepted as fact. * When posting your query, try to give as much informaiton as you know, i.e. dates and places of all vital events, if known, along with enough other readers can positively identify if they are researching the same family. "Anyone out there researching WALLACE's?" just doesn't cut it! * When replying to the list (this can also apply to "private" replies), try to quote some portions of the previous message so that othe readers are reminded what the "thread" is about. Make it clear what is quoted material and what you are adding. Most mail readers take care of this for you be inserting greater-than signs ">" at the beginning of each quoted line or possibly double brackets "<<" before and ">>" after the quoted piece. Use standard Windows procedures to "cut" unnecessary material. * Post your query frequently, perhaps once a month, if you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are joining the list all the time and they may have the information you need. * Please send WALLACE replies to the list, not just to the original poster. Other members may benefit from the data you provide. %%%%%%%% FURTHER INFORMATION %%%%%%%% See the following URL's for information on Genealogy lists: http://users.aol.com/johnf/14246/gen_mail.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist %%%%%%%% ABOUT ROOTSWEB %%%%%%%% RootsWeb was founded in 1996 by Dr. Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson. 2. Dorothy
    3. While trying a different search on ebay, in the "stores" which I have found that those items do not show up in the regular auction search engine. :-) I found a bunch of Wallace family histories in the store listings. Just go to http://stores.ebay.com and type in (with quotations) "Wallace Family History" and you will see several Wallace family histories in it. Pretty neat, and some have name indexes on the pages. Hope that helps someone, Dorothy

    3. I am a little confused as to who or whom I should be addressing my inquiries into my family heritage. I am mainly interested in tracing my Wallace family roots back to Scotland and our root ancestory. If someone can straighten me out, I would greatly appreciate it. My family ancestory, as far as I can trace it is my father, Frederick Earl Wallace, my grandfather, George Van Ness Wallace, my great grandfather, John M. Wallace, all born in Pennsylvania - Dad in Easton, my grandfather in New Hope, and my great grandfather Bel Haven, PA. If there is anyone out there who can connect with my base, I would appreciate it. I am handicapped and elderly, but would love to find my family history and ask anyone who can help to contact me at the above e-mail address. Good luck! Thanks. Nancy Wallace M.

His murderers have never been apprehended or brought to justice. Lonzy Haywood Minshew was a hard-working father of eleven (11) children, cut down in the prime of his life - age 46 - in a vicious, brutal attack. At present, our generation - his grandchildren and their children - have nothing to go on as regards the murder, its subsequent investigation or Lonzy Haywood Minshew, in general. We are seeking *any* information from anyone about Lonzy Haywood Minshew. It is our hope that the more we learn about who Lonzy Haywood Minshew was, the more we are able to *walk in his footsteps*, the closer it will bring us to finding his killer(s). Here is what we do know about Lonzy Haywood Minshew: - Born 30 Dec 1917 in Dossville (Leake County), Mississippi - Parents Allen T. I am hoping that they will put one up for the Wallace's, then someone can place that name index on a webpage for others to use. Wallace : genealogical data pertaining to the descendants of Peter Wallace and Elizabeth Woods, his wife Includes Index Includes Wallace, Woods, Briscoe, Kavanaugh and related families. Peter Wallace was born in Scotland about 1680 and married Elizabeth Woods in 1705 in northern Ireland. He died, and she and the family immigrated with her brother, Michael, in 1724 to Lancaster co., Pennsylvania. They moved later to Albermarle co., Virginia. 1. My Wallace Family
    2. Wallace Stewart
    3. Ok, here goes. I've been researching my Stewart side and came up with this information about my Wallace side. Three brothers, (Wallace) came to New York from Scotland in the late 1800's. One of the brothers, Thomas, later went to Georgia and then Gilmore, Texas. This is where he married Martha Barnes. I do not know if Barnes is her middle name or maiden name. I know her as Martha Barnes Wallace. She was my maternal Grandfather's mother. His name was Allison (Buck) Wallace. Her mother was full blood Comanche and as such the family maintained a very low profile. Marriages to Indians at the time, (so I am told) were frowned on. Apparently this is why I am running into a brick wall beyond this information. If anybody has or finds any related information I would be grateful. 1. WALLACE Family Letters
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of old family letters all belonging to the WALLACE Family of Connecticut. The letters all appear to have been written between 1881 and 1897. Many of the letters are written to Lucy Bryant WALLACE from her sister Ruth WALLACE of New York City, and from Lucy's Mother, with one letter addressed to Lucy Bryant WALLACE c/o Margaret BURRILL of Portland, Oregon. There are also letters written by Lucy Bryant WALLACE to her sister Ruth WALLACE who is living at 32 East 57th St in New York City at the time. Lucy appears to be writing from St. Margaret's in Waterbury, Connecticut so I'm wondering if Lucy was in school there at the time. There are also a number of letters from Lucy to her Mother and to her Father, all written when Lucy was at St. Margaret's in Waterbury, CT. Two letters are included from Lucy to her Brother, one actually addressing him as Fred WALLACE, with both of these letters penned from Farmington, CT. There is a letter included which is addressed to Mrs. WALLACE from Alice Grout WOOD congratulating the WALLACE family on the positive outcome of Mr. WALLACE's legal troubles. A letter addressed to "My Girls" appears to be from Lucy & Ruth's Mother. An early letter is addressed to "My Husband" from Nellie and mentions that Lucy & Harold will accompany me into town, so I'm thinking that Nellie is also a relative of Lucy Bryant WALLACE and that Harold may be a brother or other relative. The final letter included is addressed to Lorna GIBBONS c/o Lucy WALLACE at St. Margaret's in Waterbury, CT. Based on limited research I believe that Lucy B. WALLACE is the daughter of Thomas & Ellen B. WALLACE and was living with her family in Derby, CT during the 1880 census. The family of Thomas & Ellen B. WALLACE included 7 children, Thomas age 19, Lizzie L. age 18, Fredrick W. age 14, Nellie B. age 11, Ruth M. age 6, Lucy B. age 4, and Harrold S. age 3. Thomas was recorded as 53 years of age, born in England a Brass Manufacturer. Ellen B. was age 47, born in MA to parents born in MA and CT respectively. All the children were said to have been born in CT. The household included three servants so I'm assuming that the family was fairly well off. This is a wonderful group of 25 family letters that I'd like to see returned to family where they belong and can be preserved and cherished. If you are a member of this WALLACE Family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. Henry Wallace 1839-1911
    2. Henry is my 2ggf, born in Ireland, buried in Iowa. We (the relatives) had a ceremony at his grave on Memorial Day weekend, installing a headstone for him and honoring his service to the country. Suzanne, what do you want to know about him? --Lee Anne Wallace Cross
