7-27-99 Dear Jenny: I graduated in 1958 from CHS and thought to put the word out with some of the reunion committee (Richard Edinger is son of the Edinger who had the Centralia Chronicle for years - he's with the Oregonan now) and Judy Greeley H. has been on the reunion committee for decades - anyway I'm pasting their replies below in their entirity (ms?)... some of the class of '58 live in the Seattle area too - also the mother of a 1957 classmate lives in a nursing home at Northgate - she graduated in the late 1920s as I recall going through her annual when I dated her son circa 1957 - I'm still in touch with him BTW - Centralia wasn't very big and most every one knew every one else. When you read the posts GO TO THE BOTTOM of this page and work your way UP to get the chronological order. Keep me posted. Cheers, LaVonne Schoneman I'm at (206) 362-0627 in Shoreline if you need to phone me - after 1:00 in the aft. up until midnight are my best times. As a writer, I work odd hours. Also, Vonne, you can let the lady know to contact my mom. I know that she could be of great assistance and may well have the information already. His widow is still in Centralia and is at Colonial Residence - she dates Dayton Burt Garrison who is living at Stillwater. They owned Proffitt's department store on Tower Avenue (across the street from Gesler-McNiven). Farnham Davis was my neighbor - lived on M Street for many years, his widow, Ersel died within the past year. No children. Lloyd Burdette was the husband of Reva Burdette - they lived on Main Street a block down from the Chevrolet dealership (big house). Reva is at Colonial Residence and was just at the Old Schoolmates Reunion. Her sister is Verdi Burdette (married name I forget) and she lives in Bellingham. She was the music director at the First Methodist Church when I was going there in the '50s. Eugene Alvord was married to Margaret Alvord (had a daughter at CHS about our time, but I forget her name). Also Richard Alvord was their son. Both are dead. I didn't spend a great deal of time on her list, but know that mother keeps track and could provide a tremendous amount of information. Many of those people are still involved in the yearly Old Schoolmates Reunion. I was sent a program from the Centralia H.S. Class of 1924 Commencement Exercises, which includes the schedule of events and list of graduates. I've transcribed this information and posted it on the GenWeb page at: http://www.halcyon.com/jennyrt/walewis/chs1924.html. Now, here's what I would love: if you recognize a name among the graduates, and know something about their life after graduation, I'd love to put together a companion "Where are they now" page. Doesn't have to be a novel, but something to satisfy curiosity (such as my own!) Thank you for your time! Best wishes, Jenny Tenlen Lewis Co., WA GenWeb coord. jennyrt@halcyon.com http://www.halcyon.com/jennyrt/walewis/walewis.html Subj: RE: CHS CLASS OF 1924 Date: 99-07-27 08:23:21 EDT From: jhendric@ilzro.org (Judy Hendrickson) To: Vonnejo@aol.com Hi Vonne: Always so pleased to hear from you - you have such interesting information to impart. I have been extremely busy with my work-related functions that I haven't been keeping up with my e-mail. I don't foresee my schedule slowing down at all in the next 4-5 months, so have decided just to go forward with e-mails on a more regular basis. Regarding the below - my mother, Dorothy Bradford Greeley - 1004 Orton Avenue - Centralia, WA 98531 Telephone: 360-736-6169, is pretty much to official keeper of the records for CHS classes. For a number of years she was in charge of the Old Schoolmates Reunions (held the last Sunday of July each year) and also has annual reunions for her class (1935). They just had their 64th reunion and had 39 people there - at The Coachpost Restaurant which is near the old Fords Prairie School (toward Galvin). Anyway, she has the annuals from many of the old classes and, since she has been in Centralia her whole life (81 years), she has a tremendous storehouse of knowledge on the people around town. It might be good for WALEWIS to make contact with mom - I'm sure she could provide a wealth of information. Hope that things are going well for you. Have you read the book "Tuesdays with Morrie"? I would recommend it to you - a good read. I noticed Kulien - the name of the sisters who had the shoe/bootmaking place with the wine colored tile out front and wondered if Profitt was the same as the department store - then many Davis' - who may or may not be related to a batch in Mossyrock - also Hilton - remember Earl Hilton, Sheriff of Lewis county when we were in high school? My uncle Hank Valentine was a deputy at the same time - I remember Earl in his 50s or 60s had a 19 year old bride. He'd been a town cop in Mossyrock when I was very small in grade school... I've been following up on my roots from Lewis County and before that KY, WV, VA - very iteresting info on COOK, HUNT, COLEMAN (HATFIELD & McCOY even). later, LaVonne Subj: Re: CHS CLASS OF 1924 Date: 99-07-26 22:38:00 EDT From: richardedinger@news.oregonian.com (Richard Edinger) To: Vonnejo@aol.com Thanks, Vonne.
