    3. Hi Tansy, My grfather's sister I think Lorreta or Lorraine ( similar) mar a Lewis Amrine in Ks I think and their dau, Dorthy Margaret ot margaret Dorthy ? Amrine mar a Louderback in ks. the dau went by Dolly and died in Tacoma and lived on Yakima St. There I understand are some Amrine's in Puyallup who has a place in Toledo and spends summer's there. There are others here also that are related to the Lewis from back futher. Dolly Amrine was born in Cerdarvale, Ks abt 1889? memeory, , the same place my gr fqther Paden Cox Baldwin was born in 1863. The Dolly and Benjamin Louderback had 2 sons and they lived here innTacoma and there descendants are here. I sure would like to talk to the Amrine's there. Maybe they could tell me something. Maybe they are descended from the Lewis Amrine or know something. My gr granfather was Wesson H Baldwin and had a brother Walter William who also came here around 1865 to Toledo. Wesson they say was small and wirey or one of them were. Thanks for telling me. 2. Surely is amazing that these "relatives" lived at Bremer etc. when I lived at Morton, and I had no idea we were in any way related. I moved to Morton about 1934, and lmoved away during world war II, about 1942, but kept returning to visit. It was always "home" to me. Nice dreams of the past.

    3. Talked to my mom, there was an AMRINE family that lived on the Gore Rd. between Ethel and Salkum during the 40's (not sure how much before or after). According to "mom" (77 years old) Mr. Amrine (can't remember his name but possibly Joe) had asthma real bad and died sometime prior to 1956. Mrs. Amrine (don't know name) played piano at many dances and taught piano lessons. Their children were Kenneth, Jim, Frank, Herb, Mary Steele, Josie, Doris Jacobie and possibly others. Hope this helps someone. John

Adam and George Bremer started the community of Bremer and George started the first post office. Adam died either 1891 or 1905. Apparently his tombstone in Bremer is still visible. My great-grandfather was Adam Bremer, probably son of above Adam or George. He was married to Lulu Studhalter. She had been married before, so I don't know if that was her married name or her maiden name. He died around 1928 in Cinebar and she died in the late 1940's, early 50's. Does anyone have the ability to do census lookups or marriage lookups for this time period which may be helpful to me? Any information about this family is appreciated. 3. The Chehalis Museum in the Old Railroad Station has an obituary file. It might pay to look there first for obituaries. I know that a lot of the obituaries that I spent time searching for on microfilm at the Centralia library were in the file at the Museum. Had I known, I could have saved a lot of time. 3. That's a tough one. You only have one day? If it is during the week, you have 4 options. 1. Southwest Archives in Olympia for land records, marriage certificates and marriage returns (applications). cost 15 cents per copy. (You should call ahead to make sure there is someone to let you in.) 2. Centralia Timberland Regional Library downtown Centralia for obituaries (they have The Chronicle on microfilm) 3. Chehalis Timberland Regional Library in Chehalis for census information (on microfilm) 4. Lewis county courthouse for some birth, death, and marriage registers. cost $1.00 per copy. (what they don't have must be ordered from the Olympia Vitals Statistics). I almost forgot - the Olympia Timberland Regional Library has the WA death index, marriage index and divorce index. Take your pick and I will give you directions. I'm glad I live this close, because with what there is available to look up myself, it is very time consuming. Let me know what you are looking for. 3. Hi, I have spent a lot of time in the Court house. It all depends on what you will be looking for. If your people died there, born there married there lived a long time there, bought land etc. The Court house has land , Court, Wills, probates, mar books, some births, . They have index books for land records to look up and it will tell what book etc to find it in or they have taken a number out and filmed them and have the films. I'd go to the Funeral home first for deaths and if too old and far back may need to seach papers. These were last I knew in the mMuseum and the place for the Historical Society in the Old train Depot Bldg by the RR tracks. The lib is open ? on hours. Maybe someone will tell you. 3. You don't have to fill out that form. It is illegal, invasion of privacy, puts you at risck for robery etc. They can not fine you, or any of that as it was said a few months agao I believe. They can't make you fill out 2 anyway. It also is like an IRS audit/ FBI questionaire and more. I think it was designed by some politition and the last I heard it was being thoroughly investigated as to who and why all the personal invasion and repeated racial and other questions as when you leave for work. come home, far do you live from work etc. Fallen in wrong hands can cause undue thefts/ hardships etc etc. I beleive it was even disqualofied or something. Atty's filed a suite against it in Tx. They can't fine you it also was said. Tell them to stick it in the file 13 as you already filled one out. i could say more about what I would do with it. BUT..................... Absolutly UNCONSTITUTIONAL FORM> -----Original Message----- From: Michelle A. Day <michelleann@ameritech.net> To: WALEWIS-L@rootsweb.com <WALEWIS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, June 29, 2000 4:33 PM Subject: [WALEWIS-L] 2000 Census Form How many of you were lucky enough to get the short form to fill out that was due April 1, 2000? Well I was one of the lucky ones -- so I thought. Beware, the Census Bureau is remailing out census forms randomly that are the LONG form. Now why on earth do I have to fill out 2 -- yes 2 -- census forms? Shouldn't that be illegal? Well the man I lived with called the bureau after he received it in the mail today and told them where they could shove it. They informed him that it will be a $500 fine and someone will come to the house if we fail to fill out that form. Where is there a law you fill out the census form twice and could be fined if you don't fill out the second one? Now I am wondering which ones will be on the census study when we can obtain them in 70 or so years. The bureau also told him we need to fill it out for federal monies. He told them "What federal monies? We don't get any federal monies here." -- only ones I can think of where it goes is the politian pockets or on some wasted project like studying cow farts. The letter from the Director of US Census Bureau reads: Please take about 40 minutes of your time to assist your community greatly by completing and mailing back your copy of this survey as required by law..... This survey is a supplementary Census 2000 survey designed to improve future censuses. --- a supplementary designed to improve future censuses? How about this.. they stop wasting money sending out a letter to inform you that you are getting the census, then receiving the first census, then six months later notifying you that there is a supplementary census coming because we were chosen (lucky us) and then sending out the new census. How much money was wasted in postage and printing costs that could go build a homeless shelter or repair some of those pot hole ridden streets? Allow me to explain: In addition to improving the census, this survey will provide a timely, accurate pool of facts about your community. It is a picture you and organizations you work with can use to help make decisions that affect the daily life of you and your neighbors. -- Will this survey decrease my property taxes? no way And if they need to know what the community is like, why do we have something called the Auditors office where we pay Real Estate Taxes where they have the name of every person, every detail of where they are living and every size and use of piece of land in the entire county. Why don't they just get the information from them? They now more about my house then I do. Why bug me!! LOL That's why your response is of critical importance. >From new highways, to public and private programs for children, senior residents, and economic success, there are so many ways that this survey can enhance the quality of life for your town. -- If they wanted to increase the quality of life then my little tiny bungalow would be worth a few hundred thousand dollars, I would be a millionaire debt free, there wouldn't be snot nosed kids in my neighborhood who vandalize everything they see and have no respect for anything. Why is there always tax levies on the ballot to increase these very same services that census reporting is suppose to help? I want to know who is conning who here. I could go on and on but this is rediculous. I am going to take advantage of something missing out of this letter.. a due date!! Now they can play on MY time because I have none to fill out this stupid census AGAIN!! How many of those people who didn't fill out the first census got fined $500.. I bet very little next to none. What are they going to do to me? Fine me for not filling out two census reports. Please. I think there needs to be a federal investigation and an audit of how much was spent on this stupid census!! Off my soap box now.. LOL Michelle ==== WALEWIS Mailing List ==== Old Genealogists never die, they just lose their census. Pruning the Family Tree is NOT Permitted!!!! 3. My mother's family, John Henry Butts and children, settled there MANY years ago in Morton and then filtered about in the county as they began having families. I would love to know more about them and the Butts family history in the area. I have most of the names and dates, but do not know about the people. While growing up I was only able to have little contact with them. They include, John Henry and Manetta May Butts; Millard Butts and Daisy Dell Edwards Butts; Clifford and Anna Butts; Sidney and Lorene Butts; Charlie and Dottie Burton, Glen and Margaret Butts Stiltner; George Gibbs and Grace Butts Stiltner; Robert and Frances Butts. Also my grandmother's family is there---Joseph Edwards and Nora Arlene (Oberner) Davis Edwards; Mark Floyd Davis and Adeline Simcock Davis. I know that there at least used to be a large group of descendants of Mark Floyd Davis in the Centralia/Chehalis area. Any help in learning more about this line of ancestors and/or finding this group would be greatly appreciated. Violet Hooker, my other grandmother now lives in Centralia after many years in Chehalis--in the forties (?) they had a chicken farm outside of Morton, I think near where the Butts family settled (Butts Hill). They were Lewis and Violet Hooker. My father lived there for a while also--Robert Leroy Hooker, in the mid to late forties---until my mother ran off with him to marry. Also her brother lived and died in Lewis County--mostly Randle; and many of his children and grandchildren are still in that region. He was Myron Oscar Hunter. My grandma just turned 100 the end of May. So, most of my roots run through Lewis county. Thank you for your help, stories, etc. Sharon in Provo
