    2. I remember seeing a copy of the book in the train station in Centralia in about 1991, it was in a case with an article about the fellow who donated the land for Centralia. We had taken a train ride to see my father and I noticed the case with Centralia and Lewis CO history while waiting for the train. May be some nice person in Centralia will go look and get the correct title. I believe they were selling it at the time, but its been awhile. Jerri

    1. [WALEWIS-L] Public hearing slated for Snohomish Cemetery, Snohomish, Washington
    2. Peter M. & Andrea D. MacDonald
    3. Hello all, Over the last year, many of you have heard about the Snohomish Pioneer Cemetery; some of you have even gone so far as to write criticisms on maillists. But, for the most part, those who did "complain" merely voiced criticisms via email to each other and on this maillist. Only three persons attended court regularly -- I only attended once. When Judge French made his decision in October (it may be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wapsgs/WSCA/snocem.html ), it was clear what he wanted to happen. Yet, it doesn't appear to be happening. Unless we do something, the judge may say, "let it go." If that happens, all the bodies may be left where they are and not moved, just covered over by buildings and asphalt. This goes against state law. The City of Snohomish is holding a public hearing July 23, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. at the George Gilbertson board room 1601 Avenue D, Snohomish School Administration Building. Everyone who cares about the future of cemeteries within Washington should attend. Whining is not going to solve this dilemma -- physical attendance is. Washington State Cemetery Association began specifically because of the Snohomish Cemetery. We saw that valuable records had been destroyed and that descendants were devestated by had been happening at the cemetery. We vowed we would do all we could to keep other cemeteries from falling into the same disrepair the Snohomish Cemetery had. Snohomish Cemetery's disrepair is what led Superior Court Judge French to his decision. Should the City of Snohomish be allowed to disregard the orders of the judge, or be allowed to push the envelope on this, then others will follow suit. This cemetery trial is to become the state's role model for all future trials. Below is the letter from Carolynn Crawford, the person who spent $100,000 of her own money fighting the City over the cemetery. Hope to see you all at the hearing. -------------- Andrea D. MacDonald "Andi" andimac@oz.net Washington State Cemetery Association http://www.rootsweb.com/~wapsgs/ Carolynn Crawford wrote: > The latest salvo in this disgusting affair came in the mail > this Saturday. 1. [WALEWIS-L] WSGW Meeting
    2. Maggie Rail
    3. Hello, I feel that our meeting went well today and I thank all who came and shared what they are doing. It was great to meet all of you. There were only 20 who could make it but so good to put a face to that e-mailer I am working with. Kevin Fraley explained the work of the Archives files which he takes care of and Celia Tomlin explained her responsibilities at the State page. Workers are still needed in so many areas I will not attempt to list them all. I can speak for the cemeteries....We need workers in many counties. Spokane, Walla Walla and Stevens are getting nearly finished, a few undone. One needs to contact Kevin or me and make sure it is not adopted before you read one, since they are not always listed on the web as being adopted. We really would like to have all of them up once before we go back and start updating. When we have so many unread, no need to duplicate, plus this creates a problem for Kevin, (who should get their file up???) the one who adopted it first and is still working on it or the one who just sent it in without asking if it was adopted? 3. Karl, Thanks for the information. I have found someone living in Chehalis who is going to look around and take a picture of Adam Bremer's headstone for me. My father was born in Cinebar in 1924, maybe he knew your mother? 3. Joyce, Although born 40 years after George bremer died, I spent many years of my youth in and around Bremer. The Tilton (original name of the town)River was a big part of my youth. My mother was born in Bremer in 1928. My G-grandfather, Thomas Greer was an early homesteader. My information is that the Bremer Post Office was established as Tilton in 1884 and later renamed in 1890 in honor of George Bremer. I can not remember seeing the Bremer Cemetery, however I will be in the area in early August and will spend some time in Bremer doing a little research. Adam and George Bremer started the community of Bremer and George started the first post office. Adam died either 1891 or 1905. Apparently his tombstone in Bremer is still visible. My great-grandfather was Adam Bremer, probably son of above Adam or George. He was married to Lulu Studhalter. She had been married before, so I don't know if that was her married name or her maiden name. He died around 1928 in Cinebar and she died in the late 1940's, early 50's. Does anyone have the ability to do census lookups or marriage lookups for this time period which may be helpful to me? Any information about this family is appreciated.
