Just spoke with channels 5 and 7 about the Blaine City Cemetery. Was told that the City of Blaine hired an archeologist to remove the remains fo 30 Native Americans without proper authorization. Bodies removed belong to the Lummi Nation and Federal investigators are investigating. Charges may be brought. Watch the 5:00 news tonight. -------------- Andrea D. According to an article in the "Memories from Family Albums" written by Maude Riffe Schwartz in 1976 Elder Floyd and Aremedia Riffe came to Lewis Co. in 1893 from West Va. They had 4 children, Rosa, Elizabeth, Vernie, and Charlie. Maude was born in 1895 in Wa. and Jessee was born in 1898. Floyd was a farmer and a minister of the Primitive Baptist church, a doctor and leader in the community. Could send the whole article to whoever was interested. It has who each of the children married, etc. Barbara Bartley Pearson -----Original Message----- From: John Blair <jblair@kalama.com> To: WALEWIS-L@rootsweb.com <WALEWIS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, August 09, 1999 3:56 PM Subject: [WALEWIS-L] Riffe > >> Is anyone on this list researching the RIFFE family? Thanks Barbara Pearson for the RIFFE material. I am wondering is this Floyd RIFFE is the same one b c 1861 son of Lewis & 1st wf a COLLINS. If so, his father Lewis RIFFE was marrried 2nd to a Lester who was related to my ROBERTS also. The WORKMAN's & others at RIFFE were related to my ROBERTS, so strong belief that RIFFE's were also. The tombstone said Floyd RIFFE b 1855, which is a little early for this one, however, there were lots of errors in markers because people remaining often didn't know the facts. In the book "Memories from Family Albums, Mossyrock School Dist." is the following: The Elias and Hettie Schwartz family came to Wa from Lancaster, Ill. They first moved to Tacoma, and a short time later to Verndale, which is now Glenoma, Wa in early 1900's. They had two sons, Howard and Allen. They later moved to a farm at Nesika. Howard married Estella Hipp and Allen married Maude Riffe. They all lived in Lewis Co most of their lives. Elias Schwartz family: Elias Schwartz m. Hettie Hazel m. Wood Mildred m. Powell Allen m. Maude Riffe Glenn m. Betty Harper Garnet m. Joe Davis Lenard single Hettie m. Bodenhamer My neice Judy married Rock Schwartz who is a son of Glenn and Betty. If you would like to contact them I could give you that information. REally appreciate the information on SCHWARTZ. The "Hettie md Bodenhamer" actually md 1st my brother, Frank Veitschegger, and had 2 sons; Frankie Allen, & Terry, then after divorce they were adopted by her 2nd husband Bodenhamer, then she divorced and md a 3rd time. But the son now named Allen BODENHAMER lives in Olympia, and his son Brett lives in Centralia Thanks again, Rodney Veitschegger
Does anyone have knowledge of the Schwartz family of Riffe ? My brother married Hettie SCHWARTZ who had a borther named Leonard, and I believe it was Leonard Riffe SCHWARTZ b 20 Aug 1920 Nesika, Lewis, WA son of Allen Christian SCHWARTZ & Maude Nora RIFFE. The one in Olympia, Allen Bodenhamer, has a son Brett Bodenhamer who lives in Centralia, WA. Rodney D. Veitschegger
Greetings Folks, I understand the Lewis County Clerks Office has some divorce records up on the 3rd floor of the courthouse, but they are not indexed, on a computer or anything. (Apparently on microfilm, but in bad array.) Any possibility the Museum, Historical Society, a Genealogical Society or someone could get involved, putting them in some semblance of order so it wouldn't take so long to find something? I live out of town, or I'd be there to give of my time. thanks for letting me vent my frustrations. Sandie in Seattle
FYI: another forward from Judy Greeley H. CHS/58 Sorry for the inconvenience, but Elliot has informed me that the address for Hank Kirk at Centralia College is incorrect. It should be: hkirk@centralia.ctc.edu I have received word from several classmates, as well as a representative from the Lewis County Historical Society (geneaology)that they are making contact with Dr. Kirk. For your information, a coating was placed on the mural when it was completed, but will not protect it from sandblasting. No work has needed to be done since 1990 when the mural was painted. There is money set aside for any damage, but none has been done. The artist has multiple sclerois and would be unable to redo the mural. Thanks for your time and your assistance in saving the only historical mural on Centralia High. Judy jhendric@ilzro.org (Judy Hendrickson)
