Recently someone asked where Prescott, WA was, I tried finding it on the map and couldn't see it at the time, but ran across it today. It's in Walla Walla County. Sandie in Seattle
And now you know why I treasure the stories and the photos left behind by people who were fascinated by the dimensions photography added to their storytelling! I have recently restored a scene from Centralia area about 1900 of my Grandmother, age ten or thereabouts (she was eight when they left Peoria, Ill)possibly her mother, one of her aunts (2 possibilities of name), and her younger brother picking hops. Now if I'd only known about this when she was alive, I'd have the story with it. And so I can't resist picking up the neglected photo albums, lonely instant ancestors who took time to pose for the camera and leave behind an untold story for me. Most precious of these is one from the Ott family of the CastleRock area. A young girl posed on the porch of a cabin/shack/HOME surrounded by forest---next to her is her doll buggy and china doll; on the other side is her dog. In her arms she has a badger on her shoulder and a kitten trying to get away. Exasperation at having to sit for the photo shows in her face. How I'd love to have known the story on this one. -------------- Wilma Bland wpb52@olynet.com
John LOL I'm with you ...sure I can read about them and hear stories that have been passed down from long forgotten ancestors.. But when somebody tells me I look like great grandmother I want to see the picture for myself.. And SURPRISE nobody as one.... Dear Marilyn: Is this family connected to Chet (Chester) Wright, whose family lived in Onalaska? He graduated from high school about 1952? I'll forward your post to his wife incase there is a connection. I have access to the 1910 census, but it is not indexed. If someone knows what area a person lived in (for sure), I can go through the census, line by line. For instance, if they were in Winlock, even that bit of info helps me cut down my looking time. The Centralia Chehalis for example is quite long. I just went through it for myself last week, and it took a couple hours +. There is no way I'd try to look up someone in Seattle/King County. I'd be there for days. Now I have a request. Some time ago, someone sent me info on how to reach a caregiver or someone who holds burial permits at the Winlock Cemetery. I have lost that piece of paper, Can anyone help with this info. thanks, Sandie in Seattle
I just found this page and didn't want to be the only one. It is a page to post the obituaries you have collected. There is one for every county rootsweb supports. This one is for Lewis Co. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wa/LewisObits
Does anyone have easy access to the 1910 Lewis Co. Census? Is there an index to this Census? Anyone know? Thanks John
Want to remind everyone concerning the meetings that start back in Sept. (I believe the 21st). Without help, input, and new membership the society will cease to exist. Concerning earlier messages, most of the officers are resigning and they are in new of fresh, new, leadership and members! Maybe John Planenshek could update us? Thanks John Blair/List Owner

We have only recently began to collect information on TEXAS. What we have may be found at http://www.poorhousestory.com/poorhouses_in_texas.htm It includes some information about Anderson, Tarrant, Travis and Grayson counties. And we are especially proud to share with you a featured article about KAUFMAN County. It is great! And we would like to do many more such articles for other counties in Texas. The article only came about because Kathey Kelley Hunt heard about The POORHOUSE STORY and e-mailed to share what information she had. Then we collaborated to put together the story you can find at http://www.poorhousestory.com/TX_kaufman_county_pf2.htm We hope that many more of you can help us find more information about poorhouses in Texas. Hope you enjoy the site. Feel free to post any information you may have about that or any other poorhouse ... either on the MESSAGE BOARD or by e-mailing me. The only way this site will grow to include more TEXAS info is by kind folks tipping me off to it!!! <grin> Please don't respond to me on this list.
