I have all the books that Lavonne Sparkman wrote and they are well worth the time and money to get them. She has done our area a real service by taking the time to write these books the one on the Randle area is Where the Big Bottom Begins Tami
I want to thank those of you on both of these lists that sent me information and pictures of Ryderwood this past spring/summer. I made a trip up that way over the Labor Day weekend to see my father (age 78) and my grandmother (age 100). There was no time for genealogy research but we did pull off of I-5 at a place that said Vader;Ryderwood. We asked at the gas station how far it was and they said 4 miles. After we got down the road a ways we found a sign saying 9 miles but we went ahead and drove it. I spent about 30-45 minutes in the town of my birth 51 years ago and got some addresses to follow up on. again, thank you. The histories and pictures you sent instilled even a stronger desire to see my hometown. Sharon in Provo

I'm interested in the write up April 10, 1914 of a flag observance. The Wright's mentioned are probably some of my relatives. -----Original Message----- From: John Blair <jblair@kalama.com> To: WALEWIS-L@rootsweb.com <WALEWIS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, September 04, 1999 4:21 PM Subject: [WALEWIS-L] Some Mementos' >I have the following items I came up with yesterday. > > A comical colored drawing by Wits (Watts?) with the wording on the front >:A Scene along the road To Cowlitz Praire" On the back someone has >handwritten "1916 at S.L. Through the generosity of a person on this list, I recently found that William Shelton was my great-great grandfather. He was married to Margarett Kellar and had at least 2 daughters, Lulu (who first married a Lovell, second married Adam Bremer) and Eliza Jane (who was married to Leander Ross). They were living in Morton in 1894. Does anyone know anything about this family? Joyce Bremer Glover
Jenny, The Bennett School District does not exist and hasn't for years!....The majority of those who live at Ethel go to the Onalaska School. John
Thank you, Rodney V, for your kind offer. My grandmother Augusta Schieck was born in Winlock on April 24, 1885. She was one of 10 children, but the first one to be born in Washington. Her parents were Frederick August and Hannah Schieck. Did I miss something? Why all this interest in this book? Can someone say what it includes? You will reach more people, over a longer period of time that way than just through the mailing list.
Dad came with his parents from Austria in 1902 and settled at St Urban.
I'll bet your Mother knew my father's family. They lived at St. Urban, and my cousin Lewis/Louis Legat had a shoe shop in Winlock. My Mother was from the Morton area.
the book, "Nowhere to Look But Up" has a series of essays about various pioneer families in eastern Lewis Co. If you have a particular family I could look in index and tell you if your family might be in the book. Rodney V My ROBERTS were in it under a story about the ROSS family. Written by my 1st cousin.
I got my copy of "Nowhere to look but up" frm office of "The East County Journal, USPS 363-940, Morton WA 98356. The had that and a couple other books by same author, as I recall.
Does anyone know how I can purchase a copy of the book "Nowhere to look But Up", by LaVonne Sparkman? Joyce Glover
