    2. This is Sandie again....I'm still trying to find out where the Napavine Cemetery is. Does anyone live around there that can call the "city" or something and find out? (I can't even find a phone number or address for the city hall.) I don't find them listed in the phone book, so am lost, and I'd like to be fairly prepared and not spend the whole day just looking for it. I'm just spending the day, not staying overnight or anything. Any help appreciated. Sandie in Seattle

    3. I don't recall seeing that query. That is the only Napavine Cemetery I know about too. When you get to the top of the hill turn right and go 1 block. It is right there. I do have a few photos of headstones there. Mostly Hawkins. John Blair wrote: > ever possible! I haven't seen a response yet to the Napavine query! I know where one of Napavine's cemetaries is at but it has been along time since I've been there, so was kind of hoping someone else would give directions! and that's the one coming up the hill from the Ony/Napavine exit and that is set close to the big fir trees ....and since we're talking about Napavine anyone related to the SNODGRASS families, I would like to contact! 2. Michelle A. Day
    3. I think this is a GREAT site to use. It is taking me to a ton of places I never knew existed (but how could we on the internet.. LOL) Just passing it on in hopes it helps others. Michelle The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 1999 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. - GenealogyPortal.com The Internet trade press is abuzz these days with articles about "Internet portals." Even Wall Street venture capitalists are investing millions in companies that provide Web portals. Now Steve Wood has created a genealogy portal Web page. A portal can loosely be defined as a starting place. It provides quick and easy access to many other Web sites of a particular interest. Portal sites such as Yahoo!, Webcrawler and CompuServe.com provide menus grouped by popular topics such as news, weather, sports, Hollywood entertainment, etc. When you click on one of these, you are quickly taken to pages of that interest. These portals are popular as they are easy-to-use "main menus" for many people. Steve Wood's GenealogyPortal.com is similar in concept. The first thing I noticed is that it has a quick and easy method of searching hundreds of genealogy sites looking for names. I searched for my own surname and found thousands of "hits," too many to manage. I then narrowed the search by specifying my great- great-grandfather's name. GenealogyPortal.com quickly found 91 matches and ranked them as to which were "most probable." A rating of four trees indicated a high probability of a match, three trees was still somewhat probable, etc. Each "hit" gave a small extract from the text of the matching site. All I had to do was click on the text, and I could then look directly at the selected site. GenealogyPortal.com also has lists of Archives and Libraries, Guides to Research, Historical Sites, Primary Records, and Research Supplies, as well as a list of Software and Utilities. This is a good site from which to launch your online searches. Look at: http://www.genealogyportal.com

    3. I remember reading about my 3rd great aunt (from Boistfort) going to the Vendors Fair in Portland in the late 1800's. I wish I could remember which one and the date, interesting enough that the fair is still continuing. I remember reading that they took the train down there. Also, has any one else ever read about the County Fair that was in Lewis County in the late 1800's and the contests they use to have? I have often wondered if Lewis County still had them and if not, would some historical society research about them and try to have some of the activities they did back then. Michelle

    1. Re: [WALEWIS-L] Ed Rose
    2. I don['t know very much about the JUSTICE families of eastern LEWIS Co, however, we were in some way realted to one of them. They lived on a lonesome hilltop farm that you went to up a winding road that turned off the highway just beyong the bridge at Riffe, WA. I believe their son was named Leonard, and that he was killed in 2nd World War. They had a daughter who was a Nurse. They had come from the Wise Co area of VA. I suppose they were in some way connected to the other Justice family, but didn't "claim kin". They were very nice people. Rodney V.

    3. I am looking for information on an Ed Rose from the Morton area. He was supposedly a shoe store owner in Morton probably 1920's 1930's. He married a Helena (Smith) Keene. I have had no luck on finding any info on him. Am also looking for information on 4 Harden orphans. Helena's mother Artha Mae (Justice) Smith-Hagerman was murdered in 1914 by her son-in-law Thomas J. Harden. He also killed his wife and her stepfather before commiting suicide. Thomas and his wife Rosa had 4 children. Joseph Harden died 1910-1914 but have no information on where he is buried. After the murders, I have no further information on the other 3 children Comfort, Freeman, and Artha Harden. Thanks in advance.
