    3. Hi Listers I'm having great difficulty locating an ancestor who emigrated to America and would be delighted if any one of our American listers could give me any help. - Let me explain .... My mother's uncle JOHN HENRY JONES born 1860 in Portmadoc, emigrated to America circa 1888/89. I do not know his port of embarkation or indeed his port of arrival, but I do have a letter that he wrote dated July 31st 1889 when he was working for a railroad company called 'Camino de Fierro Nacional Mexicana' .in LAGUNA (? New Mexico ?). At that time he was expecting his wife LIZZIE to set out from the UK and arrive at LAREDO Texas quite soon. I can find no trace of him on any published shipping lists nor indeed can I find any trace of Lizzie, but I am not sure whether he and Lizzie married before he left for America or when she arrived in the States. My next positive location for him is a letter dated October 31st 1938 when he was living at 1110 Kansas Avenue, TOPEKA , Kansas. He now had a son ALBERT H JONES married to EMMA and living in Chicago. From the tone of his letter his wife was now dead and also his daughter MINNIE E JONES both having died of cancer. I have cuttings from a newspaper at the time of Minnie's death(unfortunately no dates shown) in tribute to the virtues of MINNIE as a well loved school teacher at Topeka High School having graduated from Washburn college in 1910. She apparently lived at 1400 Harrison Street Topeka and was buried in the Topeka cemetery. John Henry Jones died 4th August 1944 and I believe that he is also buried in the Topeka cemetery. I wonder if the cemetery has its MIs listed somewhere. I've tried to locate all of them in the American Social Security files but with no success. Any help or advice that you can offer will be most welcome. Thanks in anticipation. Ron Sellers Northampton UK mailto:rojulian@enodoc17.freeserve.co.uk
