"Yesterday afternoon at 12:30 occurred the death of David Miles at his home in Kingston. Mr. Miles had been in ill health since last November, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He was again stricken about ten days ago, his whole left side being affected. Since then he had been unconscious, and grew rapidly weaker. The deceased had been an influential citizen of Kingston for thirty-two years, twenty-four years of this time being spent as superintendent of the D.L.&W. shops. He was a skilled mechanic and a man respected for his worth, both in the church and in the community. He was a native of Wales, being born at Merthyr Tydvil. He emigrated to America in 1861, locating at Hyde Park. In 1864 he removed to Kingston, accepting a position as superintendent of the blacksmith department of the D.L.&W. shops. He held this position until 1888, when on account of advancing age he retired. He was a charter member of the F. and A.M. of Kingston and an active member of the Welsh Congregational Church of Edwardsville. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. S.D. Hallock of Indianapolis; Mary, who resides at home; Rhys Edward, bookkeeper at Phelps, Straw & Co., this city; and Miss Sara, assistant principal of the Kingston high school. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services will be in charge of the Masons, and interment will be private." Nancy Cook Pasadena, MD, USA
