JONES "This estimable lady, wife of ex-councilman Lewis S. Jones of the Heights, died suddenly at her home at 4:50 yesterday afternoon of heart trouble. Mrs. Jones was a prominent lady in the Welsh Presbyterian Church, of which she has been a consistent member since 1863, when the family moved from Scranton and settled at the Empire, where her husband was superintendent for a number of years. Mrs. and Mrs. Jones came from their home thirty-six years ago, or three years after their marriage, arriving at Scranton in 1860, where they remained for three years, coming from there when they settled in this city in 1863. Mrs. Jones was the daughter of David Meredith of Montgomeryshire, North Wales. The union of these two was a very long, happy and prosperous one. Seven children survived their departed mother, viz: Jarneth Jones, superintendent of the Crystal Spring Water Co.; Mrs. Samuel Griffiths of Wanamie; Mrs. Daniel E. Thomas, grocer, of East Market street; Lizzie, Maggie, Rachel and Meredith. Truly a mother in Israel has been removed from the Church militant. Her life was a benediction and it was always a comfort and a joy to be about her. Funeral will take place on Friday at 2 p.m., when Rev. J.O. Jones, pastor of the Welsh Presbyterian Church, and Rev. J.B. Craven, pastor of the Grant Street Presbyterian Church, will officiate." Nancy Cook Pasadena, MD, USA
