    2. Graham Price
    3. Hi all, another successful day for some, for others, well...... keep in there....... I was quite excited by this one. Ann from New Hampshire, U.S.A., is looking for CHALLENDER/CHALLINOR and associations and wondered if I could look in GRESFORD, Denbighshire, for her. I failed to find your Edward Challender there, Ann, but there are very interesting associations there which I think you should record and think about. The Gresford regs are transcriptions from those lovely folk in the Clwyd Family History Society. Let's give them a clap! Cheers! Three cheers! Ann is to be located on <NAAFRR@peoplepc.com> GRESFORD There was a marriage of Thomas Challinor otp who signed, banns, and Catherine Morgan X, otp. Wit. John Birch and Robt' Evans. I neglected to put the date down, but will retrieve it during the coming week. We shall see more of this Thomas. p41. 2 Mar 1794 Geoge Challender s/o Edward, of Gresford baptized p67. Mary Challender d/o Samuel and Catherine of Gresford baptized p101. 22 April 1794 George Challenor s/o Edward of Gresford buried p119. 27 Aug 1809. Joseph Challinor, miller, the Rosset Mills, Rosset buried (My grandfather, Frederick Andrew Price, used to mill at the Rosset Mills when he was young and studying to be a flour milling engineer - I expect it was a way of earning money to help with his studies. His father was Frederick Price of the Gresford Mills. Ann, I have some info and photos of Rossett, which I shall send to you off list.) p120. 19 Aug 1781 Taylor (Challenor). Jane base Jno Chalenor and Mary Taylor baptized Vols 1,2,3 Vol 3. p. 71. 22 Aug 1761 Sarah Challenor d/o Thomas, pauper, Gresford baptized p64. 8 Sep 1754 Mary Challenor d/o Thomas of Gresford baptized p63. 28 Dec 1752 Mary - as above p56. 22 Jan 1744 Anne Chalenor of Gresford buried p56. 17 Feb 1744 Challenor [blank] s/o Thomas pauper of Gresford buried p55. You can easily walk to both from Gresford) Turning my thoughts to Wrexham, nearby, where I considered there would be some more Challinors/Challenders, this is what I found: WREXHAM: Vol 14(3) p43. 9 Jul 1810. Marriage by banns Thomas Smith (miner) X male, ba, and Susannah Chalenor botp (signs Susana Chaloner). Wit. Samuel Davies and Elizabeth Chaloner p29. 28 Dec 1807. John Parry and Rich'd Meeson p55. 29 Apr 1791 Thomas Chaloner X and Mary Fishder X botp. Wit. Charles Robertson and Richard Meeson (Richard Meeson is obviously a churchwarden or a verger - signs lots of marriages) p43. 1 Feb 1787 Robert Davies X otp and Elizabeth Chaloner otp. Wit. John Davies and Rich'd Meeson Vol14(1) p26. 1 Feb 1765 Thomas Chaloner (miller) X otp and Catharine Lancelot X otp. Wit. John Chaloner and John Edwards p24. 27 Jul 1764. John Chaloner otp ba and Ellinor Burton otp sp. Wit. Tho's Burton jnr. and John Edwards (John Edwards possible churchwarden, signs some marriages) One has to consider that perhaps some of the Challender/Challinor folk were registered with Christ Church at Rossett, BUT Christ Church does not appear on Phillimore's Atlas and Index of Parishes, nor does it appear on he Parish Locater, which is not surprising as it was probably an offshoot of Gresford, or was it? Anyone out there with local knowledge of Christ Church??? I need it also, for my great-grandmother, Margaret Anne Rogers, nee Jones, who died 16th Nov 1870, buried 17th at Christ Church, and for a possible baptism of her husband's second wife, Margaret Jones born Marford Hoseley 18 Aug 1847. David Jenkins on <davesue@purplepeople.fsnet.co.uk> needed some info concerning a Priscilla SIMON and a Thomas BLYTHIN aged 21 in 1867 in the MOLD area. No luck with Thomas Blythin, David, none to be found there. We have only recently received further Clwyd FHS transcriptions of MOLD, but they finsih here at 1851. Also no sign of a baptism of a Priscilla Simon, going back to the 1820s. There is a family having children during the 1820s-30s father Josiah Simon and mother Priscilla. It is possible that this is the family and that the child Priscilla was baptized somewhere else. Sorry David. If you want the details of this SIMON family I can get them for you easily, as they are on the shelves and not hidden away in the stack. CADWALLADER/CADAWALLADER LUDLOW parish: Fred Ainsworth on <Ainsworth706@aol.com> is the main one interested. Beverley on <MRC@dunroamen.freeserve.co.uk> emailed me with a mentione that she had just dound aCadwallader connection, John Cadwallader 47 married an ancester of hers, an Eliza Farrall a widow at Coton Hill (the Farall rings a bell!) at St. Julians Shrewsbury, but no date. Mandy Buchanan on <mysticmandy_gingerwitch@hotmail.com> We do hope you are mystic, Mandy, we could all do with some of that in our research, and stir up a little bit of ginger every day - very good for the digestion! Well, Mandy very kindly came forward with another version of Cadwallader - Wallet! I expect that is correct, take the Cad out of Cadwallader and the er off the end and all you have left is Wallad, i.e. Wallet. There were no Wallat/Wallets in Ludlow however. I wonder if the Cadwallader was originally ap wallader? Someone might like to do some homework on that. Anyway, here are all the Cadallader's in Ludlow, Fred, but no mention of a Charlotte Barclay. p63. 9 Sep 1567 John Cadwallader buried p69. 19 Oct 1572 Ann Cadwallader buried p72. 15Sep 1574 Symon Cadwallader buried p81. 3 May 1579 Ann d/o Richard Cadwallader buried p344. 2 Jan 1629 John Cadwallader buried p361. 5 Dec 1637 Richard ap Cadwallader buried (big gap here between Cadwalladers) p816. 13 May 1735 Richd. Hundreds, it seems. Too many to transcribe, I'm afraid, Anne. Checked again at LUDOW for Carolyn KELLY in cold Canada for her Mary DAY and Robert BARK family. No go, I'm afraid, Carolyn John Denny is looking for DEVEY folk at LUDLOW. Found one, and only one, John, but there were two entries at STOKE S. MILBOROUGH. LUDLOW: p192. 12 Dec 1770. The Revd. There were Bailey folk, all right - far too many of them!!! Rita can be located on Greenways@aol.com Clifford BLAZER on <blazer@talihina.k12.ok.us> needs info on Edward BOWEN and his wife Sarah CARTER. You forgot to put any dates in, Cliff, but really this is an ant's next, there are about fifty entries for Bowen at Ludlow and stacks of Edward Bowens also, but no match in a marriage of an Edward and Sarah. Still here's something. p1092. 7 May 1797 Sarah d/o Edward Carter and Sarah baptized Is this a possibility? None in Stoke St. Milborough nearby, nor in Neen Savage, also close by. Still in LUDLOW, wouldn't you guess! Jan MCBETH all the way from New Zealand (apparently getting the smoke from New South Wales bush fires) is dying for WOOF(E) folks in Ludlow. The "gypsy" folk who surrounded Eric Jervis's ggg-grandmother Charlotte Wlliams, who married Evans Jones an earthenware dealer in MYDDLE 1806, seem to have spirited her away. She was not baptized at Myddle, Eric. No other useful records that I could find. I went back to 1720. Myddle is not indexed. If someone locates his ggg-grandmother, Eric is to be found on <eric@dol-llys.freeserve.co.uk> David ALLCOCK on <cda@xcelco.on.ca> wanted ALCOCK folk marrying FIRMSTONE, SHEPHERD, HANDY AND LLOYD of Little Wenlock and Wellington.
