"Mrs. Sarah Evans of 7 South Canal street, mother of William Evans, proprietor of the North Branch Hotel, died yesterday, aged 76 years, 6 months. She had been suffering for eight months with an attack of erysipelas, but she was able to be around, and was up with the family until Christmas evening. She came to this country in 1842 from Beaufort, Breconshire, South Wales, and settled at Pottsville, Pa., where her husband, Daniel Evans, was engaged for several years as mining boss at the Frank Daniel colliery, and was killed by an accident forty-three years ago. In April, 1877, she removed to this city and made her home with her son. She was a faithful member of the Puritan Congregational Church on the Heights. She was a fond mother, and brought up the following adult family: Contractor Daniel H. Evans of Ashley, Mrs. Margaret Morgan, Division street; Williams Evans and Alfred Evans of this city. She leaves eleven grand-children and several great grand-children. The funeral will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. Rev. E.J. Morris will officiate. Interment in Hollenback Cemetery."
