"A recent number of "Y Drych" contains an account of the death of a former resident of this city, David Howell Thomas, which occurred May 26, 1897, at Shubert, Nebraska. Mr. Thomas was born in Rhymni, North Wales, in 1832, and came to the States about 1865. He early developed a talent for music, and later in life wrote many songs and glees which took prizes in eisteddfodau both in this country and in Wales. He was renowned as a choral leader, and often officiated as an adjudicator, the last work in the capacity which he did here being at an esteddfod held in Landmesser Hall about thirty years ago. He left this city about twenty-seven years ago for the West, and followed the vocation of music teacher. "He leaves two sons and one daughter. One of his sons, Asaph, was with him during his last sickness, another son, Silas Prosser Thomas, being a resident of Hyde Park, and his daughter, Mrs. Fromhager of Philadelphia is now visiting in this city. He had many friends in this and Lackawanna valleys who will be sorry to hear of his demise." Nancy Cook Pasadena, MD, USA
