    1. [WALES-GEN] Re: WALES-GEN-D Digest V02 #1
    2. Hi listers, Can I please ask for some help. I am suck on my grandparents as I never knew them. I have found a marriage cert. for them. Charles FISHER married Francis Irene Beatrice BURGESS on December 29th 1909 at Llanelly registry office. They were living in Gowerton at the time at separate addresses. Her father was Ralph BURGESS and his father was James Isaac FISHER. Hope someone canm help perhaps with 1891 census or 1901 when up and running. I find it difficult to research as partially sighted and physically disables so microfiche are out of the question. Many thanks in the hope of some interest. Chris Humphries near the Severn Bridge.

    3. Good evening (or morning) folks. The saga continues: Ann Gould on <Cobtree11@aol.com> was looking for Peter Pierce born Abergele about 1814. Unfortunately the Clwyd FHS transcriptions here conclude at 1812, so couldn't be found - though there was an earlier marriage which may become useful in the future, Ann. by Banns 11 Dec 1802, Richard Pierce, widower of St. George (signs with a X) to Ellin Jones, spinster of this parish (signs with a X). Witnesses. Hugh Davies X and Ellen Davies. Keith Williams on <keithazel@btinternet.com> wanted some Williams at Whittington. Sorry Keith, you dates are to late for the registers here. But at HARWARDEN, you were asking for READ & COLECLOUGH. So, here you are. By the way you seem to have got the marriage of Rachel Read & Sam Coleclough 13 14 1814, wrong. That was a baptism, as you will see as you go down the page.(Probably just a typographical error, eh :)) ) p26. 13 Nov 1814 Rachel Coleclough baptized, born 21 Oct d/o Samuel and Rachel (Read) butcher, Mn (which means of Mancot) p43. 8 Apr 1817 Samuel Coleclough baptized, born 30 March - as above p62. 28 Jan 1820 John Coleclough baptized, born 13 Dec 1819 s/o Samuel and Rachel (Read) butcher and publican, Mn All this is compliments of the hard working folk of the Clwyd Family History Society. In further volumes there are another 14 entries. Harwarden register goes up to 1850 in these publications. I can get them for you, within the next few days, if you need them. Carol Haycock, obviously in freezing Denver, on <ghaycock@rmi.net> was looking for Haycox at Stanton Lacy - I will have to access these later as they have gone back to the stack. But here is some from BITTERLEY for you. p130. 21 May 1781 Mary d/o John and Letticia Haycox baptized p132. 13 Apr 1783 John - as above p134. 24 Apr 1785 Benjamin - as above p137 12 Apr 1787 Ann - as above p137? 26 Apr 1789 William - as above p143. 18 Dec 1791 Richard - as above p147. 26 Oct 1794 Thomas - as above p151. 26 Jun 1780 - John Haycox b., and Laeticia Palmer sp., married by John Attwood (please note that the reason the dates do not coincide in most of these books is because the marriages are generally kept separate) p169. 24 Jul 1794. William Haycocks and susanna Hughes married by Fras. Blick, min. Wit. David Jones and Elizabeth Hughes p194. 1 May 1808 Letitia Rudd d/o Ann Haycocks baptized, born 27 April (no further information on this) p208. 22 May 1810. William Haycocks 22 buried (He is the only William incl. above, in the register) p? 2 Nov 1782. Benjamin Haycox and Susannah GENNOE married. Wit. Edward Genoe and Thos. Holloway p175. 20 Mar 1811. Benjamin Haycocks, b., and Mary Corns, sp., married. Wit. John Haycocks and William Nott Rob Teggin on <Rwteggin@aol.com> was looking at Tegan/Tegin folk at WHITTINGTON. Here you are Rob. p582. 19 Jul 1767 Edward Tegan and Sarah Edwards both of this parish by W. Roberts, Rr. Banns p472. 10 Apr 1768 Elizabeth d/o Edward Teggen and Sarah his wife of Hindford, baptized (now you know where they lived!0 p475. 26 Dec 1769 John s/o Edward Teggen and Sarah his wife of Francton, baptized p483. 27 Sep 1772 Sarah - as above, but of Hindford p489. Margaret d/o Edward Teggen, shoemr, and Sarah his wife of Hindford, baptized This is the best of looking at the more original records. I recommend to everyone that wherever possible they obtain the microfilms of original parish registers from the LDS folk. Not only do you find info that otherwise is hidden from you, but you get a great thrill out of it when you just "happen" upon these relatives. p503. Edward - as above p512 13 Jun 1779 - as above, but shoemaker is now spelt out p524. 12 May 1782. Thomas - as above (still at Hindford) p623. 13 Jul 1794 Samuel Bd (sic) s/o Sarah Teagin of Frankton, by John Rogers of Sylattyn parish, baptized p646. 4 Jul 1804 Mary Teggin bastardd d/o Elizabeth Teggin by John Hampson of Berghill, born and baptized. p673. 5 May 1803 Thomas Teggin and Catherine Lindap married So, here we go looking for Sarah Edwards. Not so easy. p387. 23 Feb 1738/9 Sarah d/o Edward Edwards and Sarah his wife of Frankton baptized p392. 9 Aug 1741. Sarah d/o William Edwards and Mary his wife of Whittington baptized p397. 15 Apr 1744 Sarah nat. d/o Martha Edwards of Berghill baptized Take your pick!!! No.... don't do that. Rob says that he was informed by a Welsh surname historian that the surname derives from TEGEINGL, an ancient kingdom in the dark ages situated in North Flintshire. Fascinating! Now to some non-conformist records. Susan Dalley of Windsor, Ontario on <dalley@mnsi.net> hoped to find some DALLEY ancestors at Bridgnorth. As we only had the non-conformist recs, I checked, but sad to say there were none. Sorry Susan, better luck next time. Pat Hughes in "dreary" Hampshire, England, on <pet@pathughes.fsnet.co.uk> wanted any POPPITT folks I may come across. Here's one, Pat. MINSTERLEY Independent Chapel: p322. 23 Aug 1830. Damaris d/o John and Elizabeth Mason, Dog Kennel Row, Broseley, baptized (That's a good one! I wonder how many times the husband was in the dog house?) 3. ***Happy New Year*** Here is the first general admin email of the year! This is being cross-posted, so apologies if you receive several copies of this! We have just started to send out a regular, monthly Admin posting as there seems to be a sudden splurge of subscribers to ALL the lists that are run between us (Carol & Julie), with many new to the internet, so, here are some basic suggestions for the newer members & reminders for the regulars **** Remember we're all living is different parts of the world and what is obvious to you not obvious to other list members. Please be patient and polite to fellow list members. Treat others as you wish to be treated. **** It is useful to indicate the State, County, Country of your research Eg: Alberta Canada, Wagga Wagga NSW Australia, Exeter Devon. If possible can the two letter abbreviations used in the USA be replaced with the full names. **** The more information you include in your question the more likely you are to get an answer and The more specific your question, the most likely you are to get answer. ****All messages posted to mailing lists are the property of their writers. Please obtain permission from all parties before forwarding or publishing any message from this list. **** "I've looked everywhere", it does helps to mention where "everywhere" is so others can point you to new places to look rather than telling you to do what you've already done. ***** Consider using the Free Family Tree and We'll Meet Again Service, provided FREE by Carol of Tree Tops http://freespace.virgin.net/tree.tops By submitting a message to the various services Carol provides, you might find that missing link. Check out the web page for further details. Remember, when you have an elusive ancestor, anything is worth a try. **** I'd like to encourage people to send replies to the LIST rather than direct to the person The advantages of sending replies to the list: there's probably others that are interested in the answer, it might get a discussion and it lets others know if the question has been answered. **** Please remember the correct procedure for unsubscribing and subscribing. Send a blank email with the word subscribe or unsubscribe in the body of the message. The address to send to is the address with the word request in it. EG treetops-news-L-request@rootsweb.com etc Please post from the address that you are subscribed under, otherwise the Rootsweb robot thinks it is spam & the posting bounces to us for forwarding. ***If you respond to an forwarded email please, please make sure that you reply to the correct address, and do not click reply to sender, otherwise Carol or I are swamped with the replies! **** Use suitable subject headings, especially if you receive the digest version of postings. Not everyone reads everything and often time dictates we skim read the subjects lines looking for something interesting or relevant. An email that says "My family research" doesn't tell us much. Another tip is to type SURNAMES in capitals, so they attract attention ****Remember ALL posts to Rootsweb mailing lists are archived, so it is always checking there. Following the links from the main Rootsweb URL, at www.rootsweb.com or from http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and then inserting the name of the list whose archives you wish to search. **** FINALLY, remember the correct List etiquette is to ask permission of the List Owner before posting messages regarding a new Mailing List you have set up or mentioning any commercial organization. Please send details to the admin address or either of us directly. ************************************************************************* To join the following MAILING LISTS just add on -L-request@rootsweb.com to the end of the Required name. 1. [WALES-GEN] SHROPSHIRE LOOK-UPS/WALES BORDER COUNTIES - FIFTH MESSAGE
    2. Graham Price
    3. Happy New Year, everyone! Well it will be here in Melbourne in a couple of hours. Very interesting to see queries that have come from Clwyd, Powys and Wales-Gen lists in relation to the subject of this message. Just goes to show lots of Welsh folk have ties in Salop. Now, I must add a little caution here. Not any use emailing re. Shropshire look-ups if your folk were born after 1812, as this is when the copies here in book form finish. Same with marriages, except for the very few parishes as: Great Ness (1837) High Ercall (1837) Hope Bagot (1837) Preston Gobolds (1837) Stokesay (1837) Weston under Redcastle (1837) and Winstanston (1837). Of course, the non-conformists and the catholics generally go to 1834-37. But most non-conformists only commence around 1798-1802. Some of these chapels have listings for three or four pages only, one great exception is Wem Independent Chapel. Again, where I have looked up the registers, you will find in a number of cases that these books have gone back upstairs to the stack, and will then be diverted to another section of the library to be re shrink-wrapped, because of their deteriorating condition. This means that they will not be available again for over a week and possibly ten days or so. Also, requests for these books are taking up to 40 minutes retrieval in the holiday period, so not many can be got down in one day. Having said all of that and made you depressed, here is some joy, with a few negatives hidden in between: Continuing on with HIGH ERCALL parish: Early pages are missing. Some interesting notes about High Ercall were in the preface: The church was originally dedicated to St. Edward theconfessor, but is now dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels. There is now no ancient church plate. A silverchalice of 1690 was melted down into a modern form. A ciborium or alm's dish is dated 1747, and the flagon is of late 18th century workmanship. In a religious census taken in 1676 there were 304 conformists, 7 non-conformists, and no papists. Mal Hale on <mjhale.art@virgin.net> continues looking for Grice. p166 11 May 1664 (How's your latin Mat?) Too many Owen/s and Newnes to transcribe down, Steve, but here are all the SHINGLER folk. I have taken the liberty of holding these at the reserve desk and can continue a look-up on Wednesday, if anyone likes. After that they will have to go and be re shrink-wrapped. Ta Ta. No CRADDOCK found in the non-conformist or R.C. records. Andrew Loughran was wanting. No luck, Andrew, on <qandrewloughran@supanet.com> No REYNOLDS found in LUDLOW chapel. John Moffatt on <ad730@torfree.nett> Sorry John. Karen Harrison on <Karen.Harrison40@btinternet.com> was wanting any PAGE folk at Ditton Priors Wesleyan. Sorry Karen, not even one! And there were only 34 entries all told. Mike Herbert on <herbertm@cytanet.com.cy> was wanting a William Herbert b. about 1826 possible Market Drayton but does not show in the parish registers. Not in the non-conformist ones, either. Sorry Mike. Gill Hart on <Gill.Hart@btinternet.com> needed DENSTONE and MASON at Brosley Birch Meadow Chapel (Baptist). Can't recall if I looked for the Masons, Gill, but will check in a few days with the microfiche set, but here are all the Denstone folk. Don't have the Whitchurch regs here, only the non-conformists, and nothing was found. Sorry Barbara. The Myddle book here won't be of much use to you because the entries conclude in 1812. You may have to see if you can order a film of Whitchurch regs from the LDS folk. Good luck. Dorothy Bessex on <dbessex@shaw.ca> wanted some info on MOLLINEUX and PRITCHARD folk of Much Wenlock and Clun. Your dates are too late for me, Dorothy. Very sorry. The regs here finish at 1812. Anything else I can do for you at this time? Ann Foss on <NAAFRR@peoplepc.com> was looking at Edward CHALLENDER, born Wales possibly 1851. Too steep for me, Ann. Need a parish, but then most of the regs here finish 1812 or so. Lots of parishes in Denbighshire. Anyone help???? 3. Hi all. Busy day. Sorry, but I'll have to cut down on the enquiries for long lists of the same surname at various parishes - takes far too much time and other folk are waiting for theirs. But, I'll give you what I can. Meanwhile, here's today's results: SHREWSBURY, St. Chad's and St. Mary's. Don't have Holy Trinity or St. Alkmund, sad to say. Ernie Careswell looking for Careswell. He's to be found on <carrenaus@yahoo.com.au> Ernie there were far too many Casewell's etc. to be taken down, but here are those listed under Carswell. ST. Ken Richards in Toronto of cold Canada on <krichard@interlog.com> was looking for a John Richards b. c.1806 and wife Catherine nee Pugh b. c.1816 at Shrewsbury. Catherine is too late for these registers, being completed in 1812 in this book form, although there was one Catherine bap. 1812 p638. Catherine d/o Thomas and Sarah Pugh, residence C. foreg. publican, born 18 Mar. (St. Mary's). No John Richards of reasonable time found in St. Chads, and in St. Mary's only: p591. 25 Dec 1805 John s/o Thomas Pritchard, Cotton Hill, taylor and Mary, born 10th p615. 19 Jan 1809 John s/o Thomas and Anne Richards, chair maker, Cross, born 28 Oct 1808. Remember, Ken, the 1841 census from which you took the details, rounded ages of adults off in periods of five years, so this John would have been 33 by then, and would have been written down as 35. Over to you. A possibility. Can you see a chair maker's son becoming a shoemaker! Maybe. More money in making shoes, perhaps? You have to keep replacing them, whereas chairs tend to stick around from generation to generation. Sherry Bonneau on <rsbonneau@shaw.ca> has just entered the arena, but as I had the St. Chad regs in my hand, she receives a quick reply. Sherry was looking for a William Morris whose son Edward was christened 25 Nov 1796. Very slim pickings here, Sherry. Only: 25 Nov 1796 Morris, Edward s/o William & Elizabeth (Hills Lane) born the 8th inst. christened. 22 Jul 1783 William Morris and Elizabeth Davies, married. (No others) Well, that's something, anyway. ST. MARTINS parish: Jane McIntosh on <mcintosh@icr.com.au> wanted info on William Roberts who was a miller in Chirk and who was 73 years old when he died Oct 1820. Possible St. Martins link. The only ones I could glean from St. Martins, Jane, are these: p163. 27 Dec 1744 William s/o John Roberts by Elizabeth his wife, baptized p165. 31 Aug 1744 William s/o William Roberts by Elizabeth his wife, baptized p175. 29Feb 1756 William s/o John Roberts, collier of The Rock, and Catherine, baptized Pam Gardner on <pam.gardner@btinternet.com> was looking for any DRYHURST folk in Oswestry. Well, Pam, I have looked through three volumes of Oswestry, and none appear, but there is one more volume, which is the first one, and which I will be able to access within the following week. BUT, here are some I found in ST. MARTINS. They certainly were very early folk in the district! p81. 18 Maii 1599 Hugo ap John Drihurst sep (buried) p81. 28 Maii 1599 Margaretta vz John Drihurst sep p125. 14 Sep 1595 Johes Drihurst et Elena vz Edward nupt. (I guess that is John Dryhurst and Helena Edwards married!) Now, we're in trouble! I commenced the HIGH ERCALL regs. and am still on them and will still be on them come tomorrow. So, after all, there weren't six volumes, but three, and they are in a sad state of affairs, not having had hard-board covers originally they are tending to fall apart, so one has to be very gentle with the pages. Anyway, when you look at the transcribings there are some very interesting things happening in High Ercall. I don't think it was a dull place to live in at all. There are some very intrigueing family happenings. And so to work! Sue Burton on <sue.burton@btinternet.com> wanted DOVASTON and variations. Yes, this has led us down a merry path. One needs to use some of Edward de Bono's thinking processes here. Follow this carefully. You could write a novel about this! p594. 29 Dec 1805 Edward a base child of Elizabeth Dovaston baptized p660. 3 Aug 1813 William Wood p. of Wrockwardine and Mary Sambrook (with consent of parents) married. Edward Doveston of full age, bach, laborer, Sugdon (father's name not given) and Ellen Peplow, of full age, sp. servant, Marsh Green, father Samuel Peplow, laborer, married. Susan Evans Shaw on <susan@nas.net> has some more Ash folks: There are some very interesting happenings here, also. 27 Dec 1750 William Ash from Ellerdine buried 7 Jun 1763 William of John Ash of Ellerdine baptized 23 Mar 1772 William Ashe snr. of Ellerdine buried 13 Mar 1777 Martha d/o Samuel Sambrook of Obaston baptized 30 Sep 1777 Martha d/o Samuel Sambrook of Obaston buried 14 Aug 1796 William s/o William Ash of Ellardine baptized 25 Nov 1798 Thomas s/o William Ash of Ellardine Heath baptized 8 Mar 1801 Andrew - as above 2 Nov 1803 Richard - as above [Thomas Ash & Martha Sambrook married. Wit. William Ash and Martha Owen] I missed the date, but will retrieve it. There were no baptisms from this marriage in High Ercall parish. I am wondering if this Martha Sambrook was a further daughter of Samuel Sambrook of Obaston, considering that the "first" Martha died. If so, the second Martha was not baptized at High Ercall. It may well be that another child named Martha was born and survived as the mother died in childbirth: viz: 20 Aug 1778 E--- w/o Samuel Sambrooke of Obastan buried. p626. 14 Jan 1772. 1. [WALES-GEN] Jones in Berriew Wales
    2. Jane Gosselin
    3. I have been reading the research you have been doing on the list. I was wondering if you could help me with my Jones ancestors. My grandfather was born in Berriew, Montgomeryshire at Brooklane Farm in 1847. His name was William Chilton Jones and he had a brother Richard I think his fathers name was John. If I cannot connect to him I would like some info on Berriew. He emmigrated thru the USA.as a cowboy and then worked building the railway and then came to BC. as a bridgeman building the CPR railway. He had 4 sons William John(my father) Oliver Paul and Pryce LLewelen. Names seem to repeat themselves in families. There is a whole history of him in BC. Can. as a Cloverdale pioneer. They all married fairly late in life.so I never met him. I think the only way to find a Jones is the town in which they were born.Anything you could tell me would be most helpful. Australia is having a hot summer, I am sorry about the fires. We have a lot of relatives in New south Wales & Queensland. We have had record rains in BC. It would be nice if it evened out. Thankyou , Jane in now cold & rainy BC harold&jane @telus.net

    1. [WALES-GEN] SHROPSHIRE LOOK-UPS/WALES BORDER COUNTIES - THIRD MESSAGE
    2. Graham Price
    3. Hello. Very warm here, and devastating bush-fires in New South Wales in a very much built-up area near and in the Blue Mountains. Lots of homes burnt down. Bush fires here in summer are something you live with, generally expecting them, but this one looks like being a black Friday and Saturday all rolled into one. Dreadful loss, but people get right up and start all over again. Amazing fortitude humans have! Probably just as well that the lists are quiet. My messages won't take up too much room then! Ruby Ahazie in Houston (good old lone star state of Texas) on <Rubi2341@aol.com> was looking for HUMPHREY folk at St. ASAPH, told by a researcher that the records should be in St. Asaph parish. Well, Ruby I looked, given the dates you gave me up to 1749 (the volume that covers baptisms 1750-80 seems to be missing) but they were not listed on any of the pages. There were some Humphrey folk, all right, but not the ones you wanted. Is it possible they were at a parish close by? Then again, I am thinking "did your researcher mean St. Asaph Diocese, and not parish???" I think you need to go back and ask. Other parishes close by might be of use (not sure if we have them here in Melbourne) - Prestatyn, Rhuddlan, Abergele, even Denbigh, and smaller towns out of St. Asaph such as Tremeirchion, Bodfari, Trefnant, Dysert, but I think you should check with the researcher first. She/he obviously wasn't a Texas Ranger! Here's a little bit of excitement for Susan Evans Shaw on <susan@nas.net> Susan was interested in Ellerdine, Shropshire, apart from the Hodnet Ash folk, also High Ercall. During a lull in my proceedings, waiting for other books to come down, I checked where Ellerdine (or Ellardine) was and noted parishes in the close vicinity. Look what I found. This gives some juicy meat to the bare bones. WATERS UPTON parish: p7. 20 Sep 1590 Ales d/o William Ashe and Anes christened per me Rogeru' Lowe p16. 9 Dec 1621 Marjory d/o William Ashe of Ellardyne, husbandman, and Janne christened (one has to watch when looking at these transcriptions, that confusion does not arise between Anne and Janne because of terrible writing and poor viewing of records due to water damage, etc. In my experience these names would look much the same as each other.) p64. 14 Apr 1794 John s/o William and Elizabeth Ash, Ellardine Heath, baptized privly. Allan Clarke in cold and breezy Canada, probably snowing elephants there at the moment, wanted a marriage at Montford. Alan, you really do need a bottle of blueberry wine to warm you up. Here it is, Alan - lucky guy! I am sure you will treasure this! MONTFORD parish: p44. Richard Botevyle, St. Chad's p. Salop and Martha Clarke, of Downton p. Upton Magna, were married (I'll look for him in St. Chad's tomorrow, Alan. Regret, don't have Upton Magna registers.) A NOTE FOR LEONA GREEN at Springfield, Missouri. Leona, need to be more specific with your Green folk. Can you give me some time data and a district where they were "last seen!", and if the Benjamin, Edward, and Charles are brothers, or what? So far, looking at all the registers gleaned, no matches, but there's always hope! Give me more information! Valerie Downes on <val.downes@btinternet.com> wanted info re. a Thomas DOWNES or DOWNS, Stanton Lacey parish baptized around 1760. You have won the jackpot, Val, as there is only one Thomas in the register. You'd better take a ticket in a lottery, having got this one! STANTON LACEY parish: p160. 6 Jan 1762. Thos. ye s/o John Downs and Bridget Overton baptized . But, you also have a very intrigueing situation, as shown with the following entries: p162. 4 Mar 1764. Elizabeth d/o John Downs and Bridget Overton baptized p164. 31 Aug 1766. George s/o Bridget Overton, illeg. baptized p166. 22 Jan 1769. Edward illeg s/o Bridget Overton and Jno Downs baptized p168. 12 Oct 1770. John Downs buried. Then going back in time to: p151. 14 Mar 1749. Benjamin s/o John Downs & Mary baptized p148. 13 May 1746. John s/o John Downs and Mary baptized p146. 25 Nov 1744. Sarah d/o John Downs and Mary baptized p144. 27 Jun 1742. Henry - as above p141. 27 Jan 1739. Elizabeth - as above p140. John Downs shown as a churchwarden p139. 18 Mar 1737. Mary d/o John Downes and Mary baptized (no baptism for the elder John Downs in this parish) Checking on Bridget Overton, we also find; p157. 7 Jul 1759. Ann ye d/o Bridget Overton, illeg. baptized But no other entries at Stanton Lacey for Bridget Overton, the rosy-cheeked girl. However, at Bitterley, close by, we find: 4 Nov 1732. Bridget, d/o John Overton et Annae, baptized. (Is this the naughty one?) Also in Bitterley registers: p103. 7 Jan 1755. William s/o Thomas Downes and Martha baptized p109. Sam'l Downes shown as churchwarden p193. 9 Jun 1807. Elizabeth, d/o Benjamin Downes and Elizabeth, christened That's all for today. I have the St. Chad, Shrewsbury, registers waiting for me tomorrow first thing. Also am hoping to get hold of all the regs for High Ercall - there are six volumes, so that could be a problem. They may let me have the whole lot at once if I cry and carry on, perhaps, or jump up and down like one of my hairy ancestors. For those who are still interested in the non-conformist and Roman Catholic registers - these are on fiche, but that is more difficult. Much easier for research to get the book down, if they will let me! Also, will be again looking at Ludlow and Myddle within the week, where I ran out of time, for those who missed out. Have a lovely day Graham

I was wondering if there is any census around the 1831 to 1840 in the area of Kerry, Montgomery Shire, Wales? I think I have found a daughter that was born in Kerry on July 31,1831. I thought maybe I could find a list of their children. I know they had four daughters and one son. Any information would be appreciate. Coleen --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Hello again. It's been a fruitful day, and there was no one to disturb me where I was sitting today in the SLV. Not even Mona Lisa. I remember that tune, must have been about 1949 or so. Mal Hale on <mjhale.art@virgin.net> was looking for any info about Richard Grice christened 22 Feb 1618 and his predecessors at MYDDLE. Well, Mal, the Myddle regs were not indexed, but I managed to scrawl thru them, finding your Richard as listed: p74 22 Feb 1617/18 Bap. Richardi f. Rogeri Gryse de Houlston, Laborer, et Fortunae and: p63 9 Nov 1606 Bap. Marie f. Rogeri Wyste de Houlston, Laborer, et Fortunae So, he has a sister! Sad though, there were no other entries to be found of the Grices etc. at Myddle, though I did find a bonus for myself whilst skimming the pages (no index in these volumes!) and that was a mariage of one of my Mulliniex's from Ellesmere parish: 13 July 1709. Thomas Evans & Jane Mullineaux of Ellesmere, married. Mal, I still have to do the High Ercall registers. Continuing on with the Varnalls/Vernolls, etc., as I kept the Ludlow register at the book desk overnight and retrieved it today, we find: p408. 12 Apr 1664 Elizabeth d/o John Vernalls & Jane baptized p409. 26 Jun 1664 John s/o John Vernalls, Gentl. & Mary baptized p413. 24 Jun 1666 William s/o Mr. John Vernalls & Mary baptized p415 6 Jun 1667 Anne d/o Thomas Vernalls & Anne baptized p417. 24 May 1668 John s/o Thomas Vernalls & Anne baptized p429.
