The format of the messages needs to be 40 words and INCLUDE a postal address (this is to benefit those without email). I am a new subscriber to this list so I am reposting a Glamorgan interest already submitted to the Glamorgan list. I am searching for Charles W. (?William) CASE (b.15/7/1870 on the IOW) in the Aberdare/Aberamen area sometime between 1910 and 1930. He was a retired Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer who, according to family folklore, became the manager of the Aberamen Power Station. The story goes on to say that he died as a result of civil unrest (riots). I have hunted and hunted for ANY reference to him without success. The GRO Index shows two of that name having died in 1923 but both are the wrong age, (one is recorded in Bristol aged 75yrs and the other in Newport, Mon aged 33yrs although I realise these ages might be wrong). I know there were riots in the Newport area but I cannot find any reference to deaths save one miner who was "struck by a blunt instrument". Can anyone shed any light. Please! Regards, Richard
If possible could you please forward this message to your list. Although this posting may not directly apply to you or the members on your list, we have found that many people would like to be involved or are interested in helping raise money for this type of cause by taking part in our auction, fund raising events or in these type of Family History Fairs. Dear All I am new on your list and like to introduce myself. My name is Han Wijtzes, I live in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands I like to trace my family in the UK. The Brother of my grand father was a sailor named PIETER WIJTZES, born in The Netherlands on April-4-1862 This Pieter went to Liverpool after June-22-1886 He married in Liverpool with MARY REARDON who died in Liverpool on April-24-1913 Pieter sailed two times from Barry to New York in 1918. He gave as residence Barry, Wales. The ships he sailed on were called Philadelphia and Monitowoc. In 1919 he sailed with the ship Alban and in 1920 with the Royal George to New York, probably from Barry as wel. He some times spelled his Christian name as PETER and his surname as WYTZES. Does anyone know how to gather information about Pieter and the ships he sailed on. I would be very grateful for any info you are able to send. Kind Regards Han Wijtzes
Hello I know this isn't strictly Welsh genealogy, as St. Martin's appeared in Shropshire, but I thought since it was bordering Wales it would be ok to post. I would like to order in the 1871 census for St. Martins to see if I can find my great great grandparents and their small family. I've found them in Liverpool in 1881 and Chirk in 1891, but their children were born in St. Martins in 1868 and 1873. I looked on the FHL catalogue and came up with the following: 1871 RG 10/2783-2784, FHL Film 838842 Item 1 1871 RG 10/2783-2784 FHL Film 838842 Item 3 1871 RG 10/2785-2787 FHL Film 838843 Which film do you think I should order? I'm not very familiar with the numbers (like 2783 etc) or the Item numbers, so if this is a 'your guess is as good as mine' question, sorry. I don't believe there is an 1871 index for the census either, but I would love someone to prove me wrong. Sincerely Taryn Jones

This is being cross-posted, so apologies if you receive several copies of this! We have never sent this before, however, there seems to be a sudden splurge of subscribers to ALL the lists that are run between us (Carol & Julie) ,with many new to the internet, so, here are some basic suggestions for the newer members & reminders for the regulars **** Remember we're all living is different parts of the world and what is obvious to you not obvious to other list members. Please be patient and polite to fellow list members. Treat others as you wish to be treated. **** It is useful to indicate the State, County, Country of your research Eg: Alberta Canada, Wagga Wagga NSW Australia, Exeter Devon. If possible can the two letter abbreviations used in the USA be replaced with the full names. **** The more information you include in your question the more likely you are to get an answer and The more specific your question, the most likely you are to get answer. **** "I've looked everywhere", it does helps to mention where "everywhere" is so others can point you to new places to look rather than telling you to do what you've already done. ***** Consider using the Free Family Tree and We'll Meet Again Service, provided FREE by Carol of Tree Tops http://freespace.virgin.net/tree.tops By submitting a message to the various services Carol provides, you might find that missing link. Check out the web page for further details. Remember, when you have an elusive ancestor, anything is worth a try. **** I'd like to encourage people to send replies to the LIST rather than direct to the person The advantages of sending replies to the list: there's probably others that are interested in the answer, it might get a discussion and it lets others know if the question has been answered. **** Please remember the correct procedure for unsubscribing and subscribing. Send a blank email with the word subscribe or unsubscribe in the body of the message. The address to send to is the address with the word request in it. EG treetops-news-L-request@rootsweb.com etc Please post from the address that you are subscribed under, otherwise the Rootsweb robot thinks it is spam & the posting bounces to us for forwarding. **** Use suitable subject headings, especially if you receive the digest version of postings. Not everyone reads everything and often time dictates we skim read the subjects lines looking for something interesting or relevant. An email that says "My family research" doesn't tell us much. Another tip is to type SURNAMES in capitals, so they attract attention ****Remember ALL posts to Rootsweb mailing lists are archived, so it is always checking there. Following the links from the main Rootsweb URL, at www.rootsweb.com or from http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and then inserting the name of the list whose archives you wish to search. **** FINALLY, If you wish to post something to the list that is NOT specific to the list, For example new mailing lists, please send details to the admin address or either of us directly. ************************************************************************* To join the following MAILING LISTS just add on -L-request@rootsweb.com to the end of the Required name. We are shocked to the core and saddened by the bombings in America. Melbourne, Australia, this morning is very subdued - not much happening on the streets after receiving the news overnight. Seems that not much work is being done, and many folk are staying indoors waiting for the "next news." Everyone condemns the horrible acts. We grieve with our American cousins in their despair. I have just come back from my part-time work after mid-day and the feeling is unanimous. It is a wound that will take a very long time to heal, if ever. What else can we say? I feel so very weary. I am impressed at all the words of care I have seen on the machine since yesterday. I think I am still in a phase of disbelief. I live in a very rural 2 traffic light town in the middle of no where in the US. I am within driving to an AFB and have watched on tv as the next largest town seems to shut down understandably due to their federal blding. I guess it still seems like an fiction movie experience. It hit home when I learned someone near & dearest to me was quite possibly to be in the WTC and his wife had family stationed in the Pentagon. It is difficult to imagine that something that happened in what seems to be a world away could affect someone in the farmland of OH. Thankfully my son was not in the blding or even in NY. The young man that went was not in the blding. Unfortunately, their company had an office in one of the towers and we are assuming lost many. We are hopeful that by now our daugther-in-law's family received good news on the family member in the Pentagon. There are no words for anyone who has lost loved one, but we can let them know we are here if they need us. ~pat~ Graham Price wrote: > We still can't believe what has happened.
