Samuel Newman was a noted minister, Thomas Gary was his son in law and a later preacher at the church. Mary Capps Waldrop and Lucinda Capps Hammonds were sisters; thus the story as to why they did not want Joab and Hannah to marry since they were first cousins. My husband is a Hammonds descendant.
