Hi Jan, Thank you so much for your response!! WOW!! War was the son of John Waldrop (Sr) of Amelia County, Virginia. John Sr and his brother James, also of Amelia, took their families to Pittsylvania Co., Va (where James died). John then took his family to Washington/Sullivan Co., NC (now )Tenn. John Sr. and some of his sons moved frequently thereafter--to Greenville Co., where sons John Jr (the Rev War John mentioned in this posting) and Eli (aka Ila, Ely) finally settled; and Spartanburg Cos., SC, where James, Benjamin and Ezekiel owned adjoining land; All left there, and John Sr finally settled in Rutherford Co., NC where he died. John Waldrop Sr's sons are described below, as best I could obtain information from my research. I am not sure of their birthdates, since I had to estimate the dates in some cases. Although the original spelling of this family's surname was Waltrip, as they moved around, the spelling varied from Waldrop(e), Waldroup, Walthrop, Waldrip (in southern states), etc. SONS OF JOHN WALDROP, SR. JOHN WALDROP, JR. Born 1753. (John's pension application claims he was age 79 in 1832. In 1810, he was over age 45 according to the census.) After the Rev. War, John removed to Greenville Co., SC, where he lived until he died. His will says he had only one son, John Waldrop, Jr., who removed to Georgia, and one daughter; However, his administration records prove he had three children. ELI (aka ILA, ELY) WALDROP. Est. birth 1755. (Born between 1750-1760, according to censuses.) After the Rev. War, Eli settled in Greenville Co., SC near his brother, John Jr. He died there in 1845. He had two sons and four daughters. ISAIAH WALDROP. Est. birth 1757. (Born between 1750 and 1760, according to the census. Some say he was born in 1767, but censuses and his Rev. War muster of 2 Aug 1777 do not support that theory.) By 1790, Isaiah had removed to Rutherford Co., NC and bought land near his father. Soon after, he moved his family to Wilcox Co., AL, where he lived until he died in 1867 (sic). He had three sons and one daughter. EZEKIEL WALDROP. Est. birth 1759/1760. (Born between 1760-1770, according to censuses.) In 1810 and 1820, Ezekiel was living in Rutherford Co., NC with his family, which included 2 sons under ten. By 1830, he had moved to Haywood Co., TN, where he died after 1840. In 1830, his two sons, then ages 20-30, according to the census, were still living in their father's home. In all, he had seven sons and possibly some daughters. JAMES WALDROP. Est. birth 1761. (Born between 1765 and 1784, according to 1810 census; Born by 1761 if age 21 when he bought land in 1782. Since land records are considered to be more accurate than censuses, the 1761 birthdate is probably correct.) Died about 1820 in Russell Co., Va. He is said to have served in the Rev. War. (No proof.) He had twelve children; The names of five of them unknown. BENJAMIN WALDROP. Born 1762/3. (Born between 1760-1770, according to censuses.) Still living at home in 1790. By 1798, Benjamin had married Ailsey Huggard and removed to Spartanburg Co., SC. In 1806, he sold his Spartanburg Co. land, and bought land near his father in Rutherford Co., NC In April 1807, he and his family removed to Cocke Co., TN, where he entered the Georgia Land Lottery and won. In September, 1807, the family left Cocke Co.,TN and settled in Putnam Co., Ga. He died in Tallapoosa Co., AL. He had eight children by Ailsey Huggard and two sons by Rachel Griffin. JOSEPH WALDROP. Est. birth 1764. (Born before 1775, according to1820 census.) In 1796, Joseph lived briefly in Russell County, Va, where his name appears on the Personal Property Tax list (Lower District, Robert Tate's list). He was not taxed for any land. Joseph removed to Martin Co., Indiana where he is found in the 1820 census. His household held only him, his wife, both age 45+, and a female 10/15 He is said to have served in the Rev. War. (No proof, but boys as young as 12 did serve in the war.)
