PART 3: LUKE WALDROP OF HANOVER CO., VA Luke Waldrop's first record was his purchase of land in 1734 in Hanover Co., Va. Since one had to be age 21 or over to buy land, Luke must have been born before 1713. It is not known where he was born, but he is referred to as Hanover County Luke because of the deed. There is no known relationship between Luke of Hanover and the Amelia County Waldrops, but these families often have been confused with each other. Luke lived in Hanover Co., Va until 1749 when he removed to Granville Co., NC. In 1772, he removed to Laurens Co., SC, where he died about 1779. He never lived in any of the areas where the Amelia Co. Waldrops lived. Some believe Luke of Hanover had more than one wife, but, if so, the name of the first wife is unknown. He married Christian Trevillian, date and place unknown. Luke's children, whether by one wife or two, were JOHN, Mary, JAMES, JOSEPH, LUKE and JECHONIAS. 1. JOHN WALDROP was born in Hanover Co., Va. He also lived in Granville Co., NC; Laurens Co., SC; and Newberry Co., SC, where he died in 1794. He married 1st MILLICENT and had children Christian, Sarah, STEPHEN and DAVID. He married 2nd TABITHA and had children EZEKIEL, Ann, HEZEKIAH, Elizabeth. WILLIAM, ISAAC, Juda, JOHN and Tabitha. (Son Ezekiel is sometimes confused with the son of John and Ann.) 2. JAMES WALDROP was born in Hanover Co., VA. He also lived in Granville Co., NC; Laurens Co., SC, and Newberry Co., SC, where he died in 1799. He married MARY HENDERSON and had children Mary, JOHN NELSON, DAVID, SOLOMON, SAMUEL, RICHARD HENDERSON, JAMES, ELIJAH, ELISHA, Nancy, ABRAHAM, Hannah Henrietta, and ISAAC. 3. JOSEPH WALDROP was born in Hanover Co., Va. He also lived in Granville Co., NC; Laurens Co., SC; Christian/Todd Co., Ky; and Crawford Co., Ill, where he died about 1817 or 1818. He married 1st HANNAH JOHNSON and had children WILLIAM, JAMES, JOHN, Elizabeth and other daughters. He married 2nd ELIZA JONES with whom he had no issue. 4. LUKE WALDROP (JR) was born probably in Granville Co., NC. He also lived in Laurens Co., SC and Rutherford Co., NC, where he died in 1829. He married MARY HENDERSON, believed to be the cousin of his brother James' wife.
