    3. Paula, Several researchers have 'muddied the waters' on my Ezekiel Waldrop. It has been a difficult thing to try and convince others abt him For along time, several researchers had my Ezekiel as a son of John and his 1st wife, Millicent. They also had him listed as being born c 1748. The censuses support him being borned bwt 1755 - 1777. I always had that his mother was Tabitha. In John Waldrop's will (1794 Newberry Co SC Ezekiel, Hezekiah (it was Izakiah in will ), William, Isaac and John 'were to have my stock of horses after the widow or death of their mother, Tabe Waldop. In another sentence, he bequest his land to be divided among his 7 sons after the death of his wife, Tabe Waldrop. That list contained the names of his sons including Stephen and David. John Waldrop's will has a peculiar sentence abt a Robert in connection with my Ezekiel. Although many believe that Robert was a son of Ezekiel, I do not. My line has had a list passed down through several generations that named Ezekiel's children including infant Charles that died. Had Ezekiel had other children then I believe they would have been included. Ezekiel's heirs sold his land in Henderson Co NC in 1828. The heirs were: Nancy and husband Thomas Price, Tabitha and husband Thomas Adams, Mary and husband Dorcus Young, Samuel Waldrop, Permilia Short, and Rebecca and her husband Joseph Hardin Kuykendall. Had there been other children they would have been included on the papers related to the sale of the land. Those names are the same ones that have been passed down through my Waldrop relatives plus the infant Charles. Bettye " I do not mind being old. There are others who will never reach this designation."

    3. Sandra, I started my Waldrop ancestral research in 1963. My Waldrop family has held annual reunions since 1936. The members have always maintained contact and shared information. When I started my research I was given a list of my Waldrop family beginning with Ezekiel. I also had a partial list of his siblings but not the name of his parents. It took alot of research and assistance from other reseachers to garner the info that I needed. My Ezekiel was bc 1768 in Granville Co NC and he died c 1823 Buncombe Co NC (now Henderson Co). He was the eldest child of John Waldrop and 2nd wife Tabitha Parrish. He is named in his father's will. Read the sentence where he gave his "stock of horses to be divided among 5 of his 7 sons... after the death of their mother, Tabitha". He had 2 sons, Stephen and David, by his 1st wife, Millicent. Perhaps there is some info in the WALDRO-L archives that will help you on finding the parents of your Benjamin Waldrop. To my knowledge the name of Benjamin was never used in my Waldrop line. There were at least 2 other Ezekiel Waldrops that lived during the time that my Ezekiel lived (1768-1823). Regards, Bettye

    3. Sandra, your Benjamin is NOT a member of the family of John Waldrop who died in 1794 in Newberry Co SC. I am a direct descendant of the above John Waldrop through his son, Ezekiel. Ezekiel Waldrop had children: Nancy, Tabitha, Mary, Permilia, Samuel, and Rebecca. A son named Charles dies as an infant. Ezekiel removed his family to Buncome CO NC before 1820. Nancy and Rebecca married and remained in what is now Henderson Co NC. Mary, Permilia and Tabithat removed to Greene Co TN. Samuel removed to Cherokee Co NC and finally to Monroe Co TN where he died. Regards, Bettye Heinrich

    3. Sandra, I believe that Paul is correct and your missing a generation. That explains why I never could find your Waldrops with mine. Now this makes sense. I have a Waldrop Website and have some pictures and etc. I will send you an invitation. It is on myfamily.com and it is free. So come see if you want any of the information and share yours. 2. Karen, The Counties in Georgia to look into since his son and he were together in Gwinnette at Sweetwater Baptist Church , would be the Counties that Green Berry lived in. Troup County, Georgia Coweta County. Georgia Harris County, Georgia Mereweather County, Georgia Muscogee County, Georgia These Counties are so you can drive out of one right in to the other. I live in Muscogee County, Georgia, Harris is about two miles from my house, the other side of town, Troup County is seventeen miles, then Cowetta County and Mereweather joins them, they are close together like neighborhoods in Cities.(accept larger) These are the Counties that Bro/Rev Green Berry Waldrop lived in while buying land and also helping constitue Primitive Baptist Churhes. Benjamin may also be in these Counties along with Green Berry and is family. Aisley could have died and buried in any of these Counties. I will try and start a search on Aisley. Can't promise anything, but I will try. I can't think right off when Benjamin was born. Sandra

    3. Hi Jan, Thanks for the information but may I expound on two points? Maybe you can clear these up for me if you would. 1) below from your email: > He married 2nd on 22 Dec 1825 in Monroe Co., Ga widow Rachel Griffin, b. abt > 1799; d. aft 1850, probably in Chickasaw Co., Ms. Rachel brought four > children to this marriage: Quintice T. C. Griffin, Eliza Griffin, Sarah > Griffin and Louisa Griffin. Benjamin and Rachel had two children: Archibald > and Benjamin, both born in Coweta Co., Ga I agree with the above except the word "widow". Was Rachel a widow.? According to a will by Joseph Griffin, d 1835, Chambers Co., Al it states: Heir: "Rachel Griffin m. Benj? Waldrup" and also "To Daughter, Rachel Waldrup" Did this really mean Daughter-in-Law? Was Rachel married to a Griffin or born a Griffin? I guess "married to Griffin is more logical but I can not find proof of any marriage prior to Benjamin for her. 2) below from your email: > 1825 Monroe Co., Ga Married Rachel Griffin on Dec. 22 > 1827 Gwinett Co., Ga Church records Ok, but the 1827 Gwinnett Co., Ga information from a book on Gwinnett County , GA history about Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church states that Alsey was with Benjamin in 1827. I believe this is what you are referencing in the 1827 line. I have not been able to get confirmation from the church about the dates, founders, etc. but the one source I did find says that Alsey was with Benjamin along with "Bodie". Something is amiss with these dates. I have not been able to find where or when Alsey/Aisley died and was buried but I feel the logical place to look first is in Gwinnett or Monroe Co., Ga and the 4 or 5 counties in between the two. I have not been able to find her at a Sweetwater Primitive Baptist Church where they were again suppose to be founding members in 1824. First place to look since Benjamin married the next year. Can you or anyone shed some light or thought on this? The elusive Benjamin with the wandering feet is a bugger to trace. I guess the next question is where is HE buried. Thanks to all. Karen

    3. Dear Bettye, I'm sorry. My email program shows me return addresses when I click on 'Reply All'. Then I just copy the sender's address into the 'To' line, replacing the list address. It simply did not occur to me that other programs perhaps don't make it so easy. My email address for anyone who wants a copy of the transcription I did of John Waldrop's will is: pcpalmer@gvtc.com . Thank you for the reminder. Paul

    3. Dear Jan and other Waldrop People, Luke Waldrop who supposedly died about 1779 in Laurens County, SC was (I am told) my 5-greats grandfather. His grand daughter Ann Waldrop, daughter of John (about 1732-1794) married my 3-greats grandfather Jesse Palmer. I believe I once had information concerning Green Berry and other collateral ancestors but lost it in a disastrous computer crash. Can someone tell me how the Waldrops being discussed (Green Berry and Benjamin, etc.) relate to Luke, John & Ann? Thank you for your assistance. By the way -- last year I made a very careful transcription of John Waldrop's will and have it in a MSWORD file that I will gladly email to any of you who contact me directly and request it. 1. Re: [WALDROP] Benjamin Waldrup
    2. Jan, Thank you so very much. This helps me so much. In my FTM I have three boys Major, Ezekle and Green Berry as Benjamin Waldrop's sons. There are about maybe six listed(from memory) two spell their last names Waldrop like Benjamin's and the other boys including Major spells their last names Waldrup. I do not have any information of his second wife. It appears Benjamin didn't let any grass grow under his boots before he married the second wife. Benjamin looked as busy as his son Green Berry. Every time you turn around Green Berry Waldrop was in another County in Georgia. He covered from North Georgia to West Central Georgia. He went thru Alabama and then settled in DeSoto, Mississippi. At one time I had Green Berry in Alabama , be for the 1820s. It looked like he then went back to Georgia from 1820s-the late 1830s, then back to Alabama shortly then on to Mississippi. Jan, thanks again, for sending me the information, I will see what I can find if anything is left . I am sitting over here in Georgia and these Georgia Counties are right out my back door. Sandra

    2. Sometime ago I researched Benjamin Waldrop/Waldrup rather thoroughly. Following are a few items some of you are seeking: Benjamin was born about 1762/3 in probably Amelia Co., Va. He died between 1840 and 1850 in Tallapoosa Co., Ala. He lived in Amelia Co., Va; ?Rutherford Co., NC; Sullivan Co., NC/Tn; Cocke Co., Tn; Laurens/Greenville/Spartanburg Cos, SC; Putnamn/Jones/Gwinett/Monroe/Coweta Co., Ga; Tallapoosa Co., Ala. 2. I > Alsey was in > either Sweetwater or Bethlehem, Gwinnett Co, GA based on the marriage date > of Benjamin in 1825 and the founding dates of the churches. > Karen, If Benjamin Waldrop is my Green Berry Waldrop's papa. them my Green Berry was born in 1791, so he would have been 34 years old when his papa married Alsey. Could Rachel have been Benjamin Waldrop's first wife, the mother of the older boys, such as Green Berry, Major and Ezekle. I will have to pull my files to see what the dates were, unless someone or you knows them. I have only started researching Bemjamin Waldrop. Benjamin and Asley went to Alabama to live . Right? I had stopped at Green Berry Waldrop, Major and Ezekle. So this "Hunt" is new to me. Sandra Green Berry, Joseph Ryan, James Harry, Harry P. Waldrop.

    3. I found this reference in a book called 'History of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Pg. 221. This is the same book that makes the reference to Sweetwater Primitive Baptist Church. I contacted tombstone hunters that checked the Sweetwater cemetery. I felt that Alsey may be there since the marriage record for Benjamin was one year after this church's founding but she was not there, although some stones were illegible. The cemetery at Bethlehem is a little more difficult because of highway construction, the church was move and I have had no luck in finding someone to do any cemetery lookups there. I do not have the burial place for Alsey or Benjamin and thought that maybe Alsey was in either Sweetwater or Bethlehem, Gwinnett Co, GA based on the marriage date of Benjamin in 1825 and the founding dates of the churches. I pretty much stopped at this point after contacting cousins (Hi Marshall, if you are out there) because I got busy with family and work, etc. but am still looking for answers to the Benjamin-Alsey-Rachel Griffin mystery. Thanks for any light you can shine.
