Dr. Cyrus Boyd Beckes Private memorial services for the Rev. Dr. Cyrus Boyd Beckes, 100, of 507 West Mercer Street, were held today at the Magnolia Presbyterian Church. He died Sunday in a nursing home. Dr. Beckes, a retired Presbyterian pastor and teacher, was born near Emporia, Kansas. He was graduated from Park College, Parkville, Missouri, where he worked as a stone mason and on the college farm. He also was graduated rom McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago and received his doctorate in Philosophy from Northwestern University. Dr. Beckes was pastor of Presbyterian churches in Wilmington, Illinois; Chicago; Valparaiso, Indiana and Ada and Circleville, Ohio. He occupied the Chair of Homilectics and Philosophy at Ohio Northern University one year. After coming to Seattle in 1950, Dr. Beckes was active in the Seattle Presbytery, serving on the committee for examination of those interested in entering the ministry. Surviving are a daughter, Miriam R. Beckes and a granddaughter, Sally Beckes, both of Seattle.
