Philips, 62, long time Seattle real estate appraiser and resident her 50 years, died yesterday of a lingering illness. Mr. Philips, a native of Tacoma, resided at 1875 McGilvra Boulevard. He attended the University of Washington, where he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity. Mr. Philips was a member of the American Right of Way Association, the College Club, the Society of Residential Appraisers and the Seattle Tennis Club. Surviving are his wife, Jane B.; a daughter, Mrs. Rodney B. Carter, Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers, James C. Philips, Oakland, California and Calvin and Richard T. Philips, both of Seattle and six grandchildren. Private funeral services are being arranged by the Bleitz Funeral Home. The family has asked that remembrances be made to the Dean of Medicine's Cancer Research Fund at the University of Washington. ***** The Seattle Times Thursday, July 30, 1964 Philips, John O., 62, 1875 McGilvra Boulevard East, July 27. ***** The Seattle Times Friday, July 25, 1958 Death Takes Calvin Philips, Ex-Broker Calvin Philips, 93, retired real estate and investment broker, died last night in a nursing home. He suffered a stroke a month ago. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Monday in the Bonney Watson Chapel. Entombment will be in Acacia. Mr. Philips was President of Calvin Philips & Co. before he retired in 1950. He came to Washington in1891 from Philadelphia and first established a real restate and property management business in Tacoma. He later was appointed financial correspondent for Penn Mutual of Philadelphia. Branch Established Mr. Philips came to Seattle in 1914 after opening a mortgage and loan department for the insurance firm here.
